AMW Reviews: Benefit's Brows A-Go-Go

Brows, brows, brows!  One of the most talked about way to change your look!  As a makeup artist, I do take time to fix the brows of my clients as it can really make or break an eye makeup look!  For years, I have practiced on various brow shapes, I have tried brow pencils, liquid brow liners, brow gels and brow powders.  Which products mentioned is the most important?

It is difficult to say!  It really depends on the types of brows you are working with, but as a makeup artist, a brow powder is a must in a kit!  I have carried with me the Ruby & Millie Brow Set as gifted to me by Gracie years ago and I need to chuck them out as it has been years!  Luckily, Benefit opens its store locally and I was able to get my hands on Brows A-Go-Go!  I love makeup sets, for me, it's worth the money you pay for and you get to try out a lot of products in one tiny box! :)

Benefit Brows A-Go-Go comes with:

Light and Dark Brow Powders
Brow Zings Wax

Cream Eye Brightener
Brow Highlighting Powder

Smokin' Liner (Black Eyeliner Pencil)

Mini Tweezers

Hard Angle/ Talent Brush

AMW says ---
Pros

  • Quite sturdy packaging with magnet, huge mirror.
  • You get a lot of products in one square packaging, you get to try a lot of products at a good price.
  • The wax helps in shaping brows and keeping it that way for longer period of time.
  • The 2 shades of powders can be mixed together during application for a more natural outcome.
  • 2 brow powders can double up as eye shadow.
  • The Brow Highlighter is a nice addition to the palette as it does its job.
  • The mini brow tweezers is a smart idea!  It helps remove those unwanted hairs that pops out a bit too early than the rest.
  • Lasts all day!
  • The free brush is quite useful!
  • Easy to remove.
Cons

  • The Dark Brow Powder have a reddish tint which may look unnatural to others.
  • The black eyeliner pencil is great but a bit too short so its difficult to control the application.
  • Too much of the wax application may make your brows turn really dark.

Overall
A complete brow product meant for everything that concerns your brows!

Tips

  • If you find the brow products too much for you, you can choose to go for the simpler, smaller packaging called Brow Zings which costs Php1,600 (approx $37.00).  You get 1 wax and 1 choice of shade.
  • If you have super light colored hair and you need to lighten up your brows, a brow gel may still be needed as the Brows A-Go-Go is best for people with medium to dark colored hair.
  • Bring along with you an extra eyebrow brush with spoolie.  Perfect to try Charm Dream Brow Duo Brush, using a spoolie will make your brow powder application more natural.
  • Use Eye Bright to apply on the inner corner of your eyes for a nice wide awake look.
  • Warm the eyeliner pencil at the back of your hand as it can feel a bit too hard upon application.

Will I repurchase?
Yes!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Anyone who's addicted on brow products.  Best for people who likes to change the color of their hair often thus doesn't need to purchase different shades of brow pencils!  With Benefit Brows A-Go-Go you get to customize the brow shade, practice is all you need!

Where to purchase and how much?
At local Benefit Boutique (Greenbelt 5 and Shangri-La Rustans) for Php2,000 (approx $46.50).

How-tos

Start by using the free angled brush and apply Brow Wax to "fix" the brows and put it in place.  The Brow Wax is pigmented so try not to apply too much.

For Brow Zings Powders, I prefer to use a natural-haired angle brush to apply.  I mixed both the light and dark color to create the shade that would match my hair color!  Practice makes perfect!  My recipe would be 1 dip on the dark powder then 2 dips on the lighter powder!

Note: Light powder is a matte, taupe-y brown shade
Dark powder is a medium to dark brown shade with a hint of red

To make the brows look more natural and not too strong, I prefer to use a spoolie and gently brush the hairs outward.  Step back then fill in gaps if needed.

Before and after shot of my brows

Now on to the Brow Highlighting Powder, I used the fluffy eye brush and grab a bit of the product tapping before applying.  Apply on the brow bone blending until harsh lines are blurred out.

As for the Eye Bright, this is a cream based eye product, so it is advisable to pick up a bit of the product by using a synthetic brush or use your clean finger.  I chose to use my finger and dab a tiny amount on the inner corner of my eyes for a very natural glow.

Would you go all the way from Wax to Brow Powder application to Brow Highlighting and Brightening up the inner corner of the eyes on a daily basis?  I don't mind doing so on some days as practice does not only give you perfectly looking brows, it also speeds up your brow time!

AMW Reviews: Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup

The first ever airbrush (in a can) product that I came across with is called the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Spray.  I even wished they came up with something for the face!

And Sally Hansen did, unfortunately, it was never available in the local market.

Finally, a drugstore brand Revlon came up with one and it's readily available locally!

After weeks and weeks of usage, I'm ready to share my thoughts on this!

AMW Reviews: Charm PRO Makeup Artist Toolbelt

I have been using the most inexpensive toolbelt for quite some time!  It has helped me breezed through various gigs and don't get me wrong, I am very happy with it!

BUT,

I've encountered some shoots that demand "more touch ups" and there were times that I don't have enough space on my tiny toolbelt for bronzing powders, setting powders or bulky body glitters and lipsticks!  I tried to steer clear from the regular makeup toolbelts sold in the market as they are mostly meant for holding brushes! (and I don't need just that!)

When Sophie and I met up for The Hunger Games premier night c/o Nuffnang Philippines, she brought 2 Charm PRO Makeup Artist Toolbelts.  One in black and one for pink.  Everyone would think I'd go for pink but I honestly thought of going for black as it looks more professional!  *teehee*  I guess the "unprofessional-look during professional work" is what I'm aiming for! :)  But seriously, the hot pink got me!

Charm says ---
  • Made with handpicked fabric, design that is elegant and professional at the same time.
  • Made with a premium fabric that is light.
  • Made with textured fabric that is really, really easy to clean. Its textured fabric quality makes it easy to clean, as easy as just using wipes! You will never have stain woes on your makeup toolbelt again!
  • 20 slots for makeup brushes ( that one slot that can fit 2-3 small makeup brushes or one big makeup brush for each slot ) and lots of extra slots and pockets that you will love utilizing - for your tweezers, scissors, and other beauty tools!
  • Comes with a flap for that extra hygiene and will not cause your brushes to get scattered in your bag when traveling.
  • A zipper at the back of the toolbelt that you can even put in your palettes and some makeup there!
Dimensions :
Width : 13.5 inches
Height : 12 inches
Belt is adjustable and can fit everyone.

Colors : Pink and black

AMW says ---
Pros
  • I've seen both black and pink and they are both good-looking!
  • The fabric used is indeed very easy to clean.
  • The brush pockets are wide in space so I can easily put back the brushes with not much effort.
  • I can store a lot of tools (tweezers, eyelash glue, scissors etc..), I can also store a whole makeup palette at the zippered portion.
  • I love the space where you can put your business cards!
  • The zippered space at the back side is a nice BONUS!  I can put more makeup or even hair clips here! (I even put my mobile phone here! hehehe)
  • The flap is fold-able, you can fold it to protect your brushes and unfold it when you're at work!
  • The belt is adjustable and very comfortable to use.
  • The color is unique and eye-catchy!
Cons
  • I can't seem to find one for now.
Overall
I have used this on one very important shoot for a client, the touch up area and makeup area is quite far so I'm glad I have the Charm PRO Makeup Artist Toolbelt which saves me from going back and forth to 2 different rooms!

Tips
  • I still prefer to put used makeup brushes on one side so I will know which brushes I need to clean at the end of the day.
  • Wipe stains immediately with brush cleaner wipes.
  • It would be cute to put your own "buttons" or clips to personalize your toolbelt!
Will I repurchase?
Not for now.  This one seems like it's going to last me for long! :)

To whom do I recommend this to?
Professional Makeup artists.

Where to purchase and how much?

New Year, New Beginning!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
So many things I've done before the year end, and one of them was...SHOPPING!
As some of you may have read it over my twitter page, I had only half a day of shopping prior to Christmas and would you believe?  I was able to finish my shopping list and MORE?  (More = Shopped for myself)  *laughs*

Right when my wallet went from size 12 to size 0, I passed by a FLY Shades booth and I remembered my first FLY shades was bought when I was just graduated from College.  It brought back memories and I went to check out their collection for old times' sake!

Little have I known I'll be coming home with these 2.....

Brea Black

when worn...
Love the belt-like detail on the side

Loreta Clear Blue

When worn..
The ribbon is so ME!
Would you believe the total amount I paid was only Php520.00 (approx $12.40)?  This is best to be used on lazy days you don't want to worry about your super pricey shades!  How about the quality?  Well, let me tell you, the first FLY shades I bought almost a decade ago is still alive and kicking! So..quality control? --- CHECK!

From something fashionably cute to something .... CUTE!  Who could resist such cutie?

It's not just a keychain!  It's a DOMA Mini Speakers!  Would you believe this tiny thing can create loud sounds?  Hahahah  Even if it doesn't, I may probably throw away my cash on this because I can't resist the 101% cuteness!  Thank goodness the quality of sound was good!  I bought this at a bazaar for Php590.00 (approx $14.00) and I believe you can still buy them online!

P.S. Different colors available!!! SOoooooo cute!  (Okay, how many times did I mentioned the word CUTE in one paragraph?)

Remember my  review on Charm Essentials' first ever Vegan Brushes?  (click HERE for review)  Sophie handed me the gorgeous pink brush holder and she excitedly told me she will be selling these Vegan Brushes in a set!  Great deal for Php2,500 (approx$60.00).  Would you believe her gift was a great timing as I brought the set with me in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I can do makeup on myself and other people with the 14 pcs Vegan Brushes!

This Christmas, I've received a lot of wonderful gifts like one of my favorite Lipcare brand Nivea!  I have the whole year to finish these up and it won't be difficult as I was able to finish THIS, THIS and THIS in no time and I'm glad these are finally available locally especially since the "Liposan" that I got is from my blogger swap from Germany! :)

Goodies that can make me smile are not an exception for this year!  I was gifted my very own Kimmidoll from one of the #evurls girls!

Aside from that, I was gifted the cutest pens and highlighters available on earth!  *lol*

Oh my, this goes straight inside my bag and this will always be the partner of my 2012 Planner!  Thanks Rinnah for these goodies and more! :D

Cute Planner + Cute Pens and highlighters = Cute OWNER *lol*

Thanks to Etude House Philippines for sending me gorgeous gifts to jumpstart my year!  The MiniME World Traveler Ms. Cutie Perfumed Body and Hair Mist is perfect because it has "Japan" all over it!  Mr. AMW and myself is dreaming to go to Japan!  I'm telling to the universe that we will!!! And you'll definitely hear all about our adventures once it happens!

And a Party Queen Gradation Nails from Etude House set, I was just lemming for this big gold sparkles which I saw online!  Then I have one!  Like I said, it pays to wish! :)

I won't be doing a Nail Art Tutorial on this but you'll see how this will be easily done, even for nail art newbies, when I do a review on this set!  Watch out for it!

Thanks to my friends from Ponds for sending me Ponds goodies and a limited edition "Mother of Pearl" necklace designed by Tweetie De Leon.

So radiantly beautiful like Tweetie...

And as if my gold isn't enough to bring luck for Year of the Dragon....look at the last haul I made before 2011 ended.  I nearly didn't bought this but Mr. AMW insisted I buy this as he saw the sparkle of my eyes when I tried this on.....

Gold Sparkly Shoes from ShoeBox
 Priced less than Php800.00

I have to share this story!  When I was a judge at Crissa's Dance Synergy, as one of the judges, I was called up on stage by Tony Tony of Magic 89.9 and they asked me what's "Fashoinable" for 2011...I blurted out "Sparkly GOLD!"  I must be a seer, as 2012 seems to be the year of Sparkly Gold!

Oh...before I end this post, let me share to you my New Year Makeup!  Bright lips for bright future!  *laughs*  I'll share to you the products I used in upcoming posts!

Happy 2012 from Mr. AMW and myself!
Keep that smile coming and staying positive helps!  *Promise*

I Wonder: Do You Like It in Pink or Gold?

I was beaming with joy when I first got my Charm Luxe Retractable Kabuki, the gorgeous pink case and pink tipped synthetic hair is perfect for pink lovers like myself.  I've had this and used this for a good 1.5 years and it's still doing okay!

When I went out with my friend to visit the Charm booth at Crossings, Shangri-La Mall, I saw a gleaming gold Charm Retractable Kabuki in Gold!!!

I know non-pink lovers out there would hear angels singing at the background!  It is indeed something unique and perfect for the Christmas season since me and my "kumare" were just shopping for sparkly gold shoes for her daughters from Payless Shoe Source.

The hair of Charm Retractable Kabuki in Gold is the same Vegan, animal-friendly hair like the Pink version!  The difference aside from the packaging would be the hair color.  The Retractable Kabuki Brush in Pink has white and pink synthetic hair while the Retractable Kabuki Brush in Gold is in brown with a bit of white!  The shade perfectly match the gold exterior!

Same density and softness

Same function, for powder foundation application, blush application or finishing powder!  I also like to use this brush to remove fall-outs from my eyeshadow application!

So that leaves to an I Wonder question ---
"Do You Like it in Pink or Gold?"

The Charm Retractable Kabuki in Gold and Pink costs Php580.00 (approx 13.15) to be purchased ONLINE free shipping for orders Php400.00 above (Happy Holiday Promo).

AMW Reviews: Charm Essentials Vegan Brushes

The first time Sophie came up with a Vegan Brush idea, the first thing I remembered telling her: "Will it grab the right amount of makeup pigments?"  The reason for the said thinking is because I do own a set of Synthetic brushes in the past and I found myself skipping this as much as I can as it doesn't grab as much pigments as I want.

After almost a year, during our UBE at Tagaytay, Sophie whipped out her Vegan Brushes sample and I told her: "Wow, it's soft, but does it perform well?"

As you can see, I have this "angst" with synthetic brushes, I have a love-hate relationship with them!  I love it for the fact that it's good for our furry-animal friends but it's not that good as compared to natural bristled brushes when it comes to performance!

To make the long story short, Sophie finally came out with her line of Vegan brushes!  Before you read my in-depth review, good news to everyone! YOU CAN PURCHASE THEM IN SINGLES!  You don't need to force yourself to purchase a set but you can choose the brush you want and need!

Powder Brush
Php399.00 (approx $9.00)
Apply your powder products, may they be pressed or loose with this luxuriously soft powder brush that distributes product evenly across the face.
AMW says ---
Pros
  • Super soft.
  • Dense and has a right "firmness"
  • No weird/funky smell.
  • Can give light to medium powder foundation coverage.
  • No shedding nor bleeding.
  • Multi-purpose brush, can be used on both powder and cream products.
  • Can create airbrush-finish with stippling motion.
  • Super worth the price for its performance!
Cons
  • Takes a bit of time to dry as compared to the rest of the brushes in this line.
Tips
  • Best used for pressed and powder foundations or setting powders.
  • Can also be used as blusher brush if you like a very light hint of shade on the cheeks.
  • A great brush to apply powder foundation or sparkly powders all over the arms and body.
  • I also like to use a "clean" version of this to remove makeup fall outs.

Blush/Contour Brush
Php399.00 (approx $9.00)
This brush is created to apply blush products, wet or dry, on the cheeks, as well as contour the cheekbones to give the face its much-needed dimension.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No weird, funky smell.
  • Washed this several times and confirmed, no bleeding nor shedding.
  • Most of my synthetic angled blush brush/contour brush aren't as firm as this!  This has a good control for contouring!
  • Can grab good amount of pigments as compared to other synthetic bristles.
  • Can use for powder, cream and liquid products.
  • Since this is a synthetic brush, you don't get fluffy brush after several washes.
  • Functions similarly with my MAC169 brush but the bristles of Charm are a tiny bit longer.
Cons
  • As compared to natural hair, this grabs a tiny bit "lesser" pigments.  (It's all good for me)
Tips
  • If you use cream/liquid products, you can add an Olive Oil on your regular shampoo to remove stain from the bristles.
  • Use the shortest portion of the brush to contour.  Use the longer portion to apply blush powders.  With this technique, you do not need to mix the contour and blush powders!
Foundation Brush
Php399.00 (approx $9.00)
Apply your primer, and liquid foundation with ease using our Charm Essentials Foundation Brush.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • Dense!  This turned out to be almost similar to my favorite Essence of Beauty Foundation brush.
  • Multi-purpose: Can be used to apply moisturizer, primers, foundation, concealer and other cream/liquid based products.
  • Very soft, no scratchy feel.
Cons
  • None!
Tips
  • This brush for me is the most difficult to clean!  Add olive oil in your shampoo/gentle detergent cleaner to remove oil-based makeup.
  • As compared to the rest of the brushes, I suggest to wipe this immediately with a makeup cleaner pad or wet ones as this may cause skin irritations the most!

Big Eyeshadow/Concealer Brush
Php250.00 (approx 5.70)
Our multitasking Charm Big Eyeshadow Brush picks up, and distributes eyeshadow color efficiently on the lid, and can also work as a concealer brush. Apply eyeshadow wet or dry, you won't be disappointed with our Big Eyeshadow Brush!

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • Has a good control.
  • Very dense and thicker as compared to regular concealer brush.
  • Can be used to apply eyeshadow (wet) and concealer.
Cons
  • I like this as a concealer brush rather than eyeshadow brush.  If eyeshadow used aren't that pigmented, it's a bit difficult to transfer on lids! (This brush will work better if you apply eyeshadow wet with foiling method.)
Tips
  • Again, as stated, if you plan to use this to apply eyeshadow, best if you applied this wet with a patting motion.
  • Since the brush is dense enough, you can use the flat portion to conceal larger areas and the tip for spot correcting/concealing.
Small Eyeshadow/Precise Concealer Brush
Php230.00 (approx $5.25)
Our multitasking Charm Small Eyeshadow Brush is used for a more precise, and concentrated application of eyeshadow, may it be wet or dry. This can also be used to apply concealer for more precise, spot concealing.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • Even if the bristles aren't as thick as the bigger version, this is not flimsy and has a good control.
  • Multi-purpose.
  • Spot correcting/concealing is easy with this brush.
Cons
  • None
Tips
  • This brush is best used for small eyelid space.
  • Best for foiling eyeshadow pigments.
  • Best brush to use to apply my cream eyeshadow.

Crease Blending Brush
Php275.00 (approx $6.25)
Charm Essentials Crease Blending Brush is a must-have as a blending brush, as it defines and contours your crease, and also blends eyeshadow into a seamless gradient.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • OH MY!  This is definitely a synthetic version of MAC's 222!  SPOT ON!
  • Has the right Amount of "stiffness" yet soft enough to create smokey eyes.
  • Can do all the blending of eyeshadow colors without the scratchy feel! (No matter how soft the natural haired Blending Brush, it does scratch at times.)
  • Multi-purpose: Can be used as a blending brush and would you believe....under eye concealing brush?
  • Seriously inexpensive, I bought Prestige blending brush 3-4 years ago almost the same price but look how many years have passed?
Cons
  • NONE!
Tips
  • If you used this brush for cream/liquid based products, do not use this on powdered products unless you clean this.
  • Apply a thick amount of eyeshadow (1 shade) of choice and use this brush and keep on blending the harsh edges and you have a quick, easy, smokey eye makeup!

Classic Blending Brush
Php250.00 (approx $5.70)
Charm Essentials Classic Blending Brush is your multi-tasking blending brush - it blends your eyeshadows into a seamless gradient so that you need not sport harsh edges on your eyes! Aside from that, it is also a useful brush to dust loose powder around the eye area, and apply  a wash of eyeshadow on your lids.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • Fluffy yet firm.
  • Very soft, no scratchy feel.
  • Very nice nose contouring brush.
Cons
  •  I can't seem to use this brush as much as I have very tiny lid space!
Tips
  • Be creative!  Try to find ways to use this and make this brush work!  I think nose contouring is the best use for this brush.
  • I also like to use a clean brush of this to remove excess fall outs without using my fingers.(Especially on clients)
Precise Lip Brush
Php199.00 (approx $4.50)
Lipsticks are best applied with lip brushes for a more precise, and even distribution of color. Our Charm Precise Lip Brush has the right stiffness to pick up enough lipcolor to apply evenly on your lips, and has the right circular, angular shape that allows you to shape your lips into perfection!

AMW says ---
I can't say much with this brush as lip brushes aren't that difficult to review.  They are usually good no matter what brand!

Tips
  • Can be used as spot concealing.  I super like to cover tiny pimple marks with this brush!
  • Again, since lipsticks are oil based, add olive oil on your regular brush cleansing.
Pencil Point Brush
Php250.00 (approx $5.70)
This brush is designed to further accentuate the outer-V of your eyes using more intense color. The precise pencil-like shape of this brush also allows you to smudge your eyeliner and perfect your smoky eyes!
AMW says ---
Pros
  • Reminds me of my Smashbox Synthetic Pencil Brush.
  • Can grab good amount of product.

Cons
  • None
Tips
  • Since the bristles are super short and dense, it is difficult to clean this, I suggest using a good amount of olive oil mixed with baby shampoo, swirl the brush on your palm for a minute, then gently wash it off again with baby shampoo.
  • Best used to line your eyes with the use of powdered eyeshadow also on the lower lash line.
  • Once you use this brush to create an outer-v shape, do not forget to blend this with a blending brush!  It's a no-no to see harsh lines on your eyeshadow application.

Shading Brush
Php250.00(approx $5.70)
This brush is a hardworking multitasker as it can apply color on your  lids, apply powder on your under eyes, define your crease, and even contour your nose.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • One of the most unique brush I've seen!
  • Best used as a nose contouring brush.
  • Does not create harsh line.
  • This actually helps blend in concealer under the eye area to create a smooth finish.
Cons
  • Can make your eyeshadow disappears if you use this brush and you have tiny lid space!
Tips
  • To make this work for my eyeshadow application, I like using this as a final step on applying highlighting powders on the brow bone area.
  • Use a clean brush and apply a nice "glittery" eyeshadow powder on the inner corner of the eyes.
  • If used as a nose contouring brush, blend! Blend! Blend!
Angled Eyeshadow brush

Php250.00 (approx $5.70)

AMW says ---
Pros
  • No bleeding nor shedding.
  • Has a perfect angle to create "outer-v" minus the harsh lines.
  • Can also be used as blending brush.
  • Super soft, no scratchy feel.
  • Best for people with small lid space like mine.
Cons
  • None
Tips
  • You can choose an eyeshadow shade that's a shade or two darker than your original skin color, bend your head backwards in front of the mirror and apply eyeshadow on the "socket" of your eyes.  This gives a super natural "deep set of eyes".
  • I prefer to use this brush for powdered pigments, try not to use this on cream based eyeshadow.
Angled Eyeliner brush
Php250.00 (approx $5.70)

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Has a good "hold" or stiffness.
  • Can create "winged" eyeliner look without problems.
  • Can actually double up as an eyebrow powder brush.
  • Can be used to apply eyeliner with powder products.
Cons
  • If you want to create a super thin eyeliner, you may have a difficult time as it'll always come off a bit thicker than the usual.
Tips
  • Add Olive Oil during cleansing as gel liners are a pain to remove!
  • Best brush to use to apply powdered shadows on the lower lash line giving an effect of bigger eyes.
Overall?  You can obviously read on all my PRO portion how they are super soft, non-scratchy, no bleeding nor shedding when washed.

I am quite happy that Charm took the time to tediously test on each single brush as I like that all of them do come with quality plus the fact that it's not too expensive as compared to other synthetic brushes!  I am actually confident to bring this for my make-up gigs as they are non-scratchy, very soft and easy to clean!
