When You Wish For A Marker To Line Your Eyes...

Note from AMW: This product is discontinued but you can still see this available in some stores.  Just in case, there's a Superstar DUO which cost around Php400.00 that you can try!

You may want to check out L'Oreal Super Liner Superstar.  It is a pen-type liquid liner with a marker-like flexible tip making it easy to create a line without much movement from the brush.

a photo of L'Oreal Super Liner Superstar review in black by Nikki Tiu of askmewhats.com

I personally do not have issues using ANY liquid liners to date, that because, I had enough practice for the past 10 years!  Yes girls, I've been there, I've done it!  When I was just starting out on makeup, one of the most unforgettable moment was when I poked my eye with a liquid liner brush and the whole white of my eyes turned black and I was freaking out!  (More on freaking out and forgetting the pain!)

Consider the fact that I have steady hands, I was just too eager to line my eyes I poked the brush directly onto my eye.  That was several years ago but I can never forget that moment.

So when the Blog AskMeWhats was born, I make it a point to write thoroughly, explain everything for both amateurs and professionals, because at some point, we started somewhere.

When I saw this pen, I knew I had to write about it because this is very easy to work with.  Still scary because you have this inkling feeling of drawing your eyes using a marker pen but it's worth giving it a shot!

Unsung Hero: K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliners

The announcement for The Unsung Heroes will never be a scheduled one.  You either suddenly discovered how important they are in your life when you ran out of it, or you'll realize how great they are when you have been going back to this product no matter how many other brands you've tried.  That said, I've found a product meant to be listed on The Unsung Heroes file, it's not new to the eyes but an additional color member was added to the family that's why I have to give this product a special space on my Blog.

a photo of K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliners review in Brown Black, Natural Black, Deep Brown and Super Black by Nikki Tiu Askmewhats.com

The first time I get to try the wonderful powers of K-Palette REAL Lasting Eyeliner was year 2011 (oh gosh!  7 years of pure liquid lining goodness!)  Then, there were a bit of reformulation they called it POWER UP 2 years after which I felt was not necessary because these liquid liners were good enough!

But I obviously welcome those improvements and changes because there will always be something to improve!

Then, I was one of those beaming with joy and excitement when a New shade was added in the family - Brown Black!  I am one of the few who really mix both black and brown eyeliner because my eyes are small, so using plain BLACK would be too strong while using only brown seems to be u useless!  So I was one of those who jumped into the Brown Black liner trend and have been religiously using this shade for the longest time!

Fast forward to nearing the end of 2017, the brand added another color to the family!  The NATURAL BLACK!  If you ask me, I can't seem to pick a favorite between Natural Black and Brown Black as of the moment!  But I'm happy I have more liner color choices now!

Kate Tokyo Super Sharp Liner EX Review

How does eyeliner change the way your eyes look?
SO MUCH!

Aside from fixing my brows, I make it to a point to use eyeliner whether liquid pencil or gel on a daily basis!  Well, when we're talking about "on a daily basis" meaning: "RUSH" I always opt for Liquid Eyeliner because I can easily apply them in seconds (per eye) and rush out and look like I've done huge effort in making myself look presentable.

One of the few brands I depend on when it comes to liquid liners are: K-Palette and Lifeford.  And I think after trying this particular Super Sharp Liner from the Japenese Brand Kate Tokyo, I knew this has got to be part of my top 3!

Kate Tokyo has the "normal sized" liquid liner pen called Super Sharp Liner (minus the EX) and I have tried it in the past and it works really well!

But today, I am reviewing an EX version which means, more precise, sharper and just easier for me to draw a very thin and natural line and I also use this to create "fake lashes" to make my lashes both upper and lower part appear thicker.

BLK Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeliner Review

When BLK Cosmetics launched a couple of weeks ago!  One of the few products I immediately tested are the lipsticks then their Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeliner, just because I use liquid eyeliner on a daily basis too because it helps enhance my eyes even without the need of eyeshadow.

Thankfully BLK Cosmetics offers 2 shades, Black and Brown.  The Black one could look a bit too strong for daily mom-on-the-go look so I always opted for Brown, and as you all know, seldom do you find good brown liner color that gives the right amount of intensity.

a photo of BLK Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeliner Askmewhats

Housed in a black liquid pencil liner packaging, it has a green strip which I'm unsure if the color changes if the color of the liner is black.  I like the simplicity of the design and the logo located at the center.

Pixi By Petra Cat Eye Ink Review

I use liners as often as I use Brow products which means - Every time I leave home!

I have tried so many liners (well I tried so many beauty products) for the past decade and I can't help but get amazed on how there's always something NEW to offer from various brands!

A must mention is from Pixi by Petra called Cat Eye Ink Liquid Eye Liner.  I assume, this is specifically made for cat-eye look lovers out there?

Guerlain L'ART DU TRAIT Precision Felt Eyeliner Review

I have been using eyeliner (pencils, gels and liquids) more than half of my life!  I remember using a brown eyeliner pencil for the first time during my Senior college days and I felt so beautiful back then #lol

Because of my small, chinky eyes, lining my eyes will always be the way to go to create that complete and wide-awake look!  I know I don't wear as much eyeshadow as I used to 10 years ago but I definitely will keep that eyelining game strong at present and for the years to come.

That said, I've been using, and testing, both drugstore and high end eyeliner brands and today, I am featuring the one from Guerlain called Guerlain L'ART DU TRAIT Precision Felt Eyeliner in 01 Ultra Black.

a photo of Guerlain L'ART DU TRAIT Precision Felt Eyeliner Review

Housed in a pen like most liquid liners, you get a clear print of the Logo of Guerlain in Gold on top of a black pen.  Very chic!

Looking for an Eye Brightener Pencil?

Like other Beauty Bloggers, I'm sure at one time in your "Beauty Blogging Life", you've used a white eyeliner pencil to "brighten up" your eyes!  Admit it girlfriends, because I'm raising both of my hands up high because I'm super guilty for that!

As much as White eyeliner pencil is indeed effective for that "Ullzang Makeup look", I'm sure there's a more subtle version for daily use...and I've found it through Cargo Swimmables Eye Pencil in Secret Beach.

a photo of Cargo Swimmables Eye Pencil review in Secret Beach

Cargo Swimmables Eye Pencil (Php850.00)
"Three shades added to the iconic long-wearing, waterproof eyeliner collection. The Swimmables Eye Pencils feature a rich, creamy formula with the feel of a liquid and the versatility of a pencil. These transfer-resistant, extreme wear pencils glide on smoothly and effortlessly locking comfortably in place for up to 14 hours. Now available in three highly-pigmented shades, including the Black Sea (Black), Pebble Beach (Brown), Secret Beach (Nude)."

Out of the 3 shades available, I found this particular shade to be the most unique and can work as a best-kept secret for Pro Makeup Artists like myself.

Tony Moly Dual Stamp Liner Review

So there is such thing as a "Stamp Liner".  I actually wasn't in need of any "liquid liner" as I have so many back ups to date but upon seeing this new "fad" from Tony Moly store, I had to grab one!  Just because AskMeWhats is definitely a venue for something new (especially on skincare and makeup) so I had to share my find!

Well, it isn't that new because I got this December of last year, I'm not even sure if this product is still available in store!  Blame the OC-ness in me to finish my makeup before I open a new one.

Housed in a very simple black packaging, you wouldn't call this "boring" when you see what this pen can do!

Maybelline Hyper Ink Liquid Liner Review

Since the arrival of wonderful liquid eyeliner pens, I didn't see myself touching a liquid liner that is housed in a "pot" and "applicator" (separately).  Holding the new Maybelline Hyper Ink Liquid Liner brought me back to so much good and bad "eyelining" memories.  The first one I tried was from Kate by Kanebo and I remembered poking my eye directly with the sharp brush seeing "black tears" rolling down my cheeks.

Good 'ol pre-Blogging, pre-MUA memories.

Now that I'm confirmed to have steady-hands and a very good hands in ANY type of liquid liner application, holding this gave me that ultimate rush because I knew I will be getting somewhat a very precise, high intensity liquid liner --- and Maybelline Hyper Ink Liquid Liner gave me so much MORE!

The Hyper Ink Liquid Liner is housed in a very simple black and silver packaging with a long handled "cap" that I appreciate because I have better hold of the liner brush!

I Perfected My Strobing Skills with NYX

I highlight and contour subtly on a daily basis, that's how I make my skin looks more healthy and radiant because I have naturally sallow (a.k.a. boring) skin.  I have roadtested so many contour and highlight products I knew which particular ones would give me the very natural and subtle effect while other products/brands can give me more drama.

But I wasn't ready for this particular "strobing" technique that I got after using the palette from NYX called NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette.  All I can say is that --- it is indeed a "genius" in the strobing department.

To those who are "used to" my usual "Product review photos", you can definitely see a major change in this!

For goodness' sake, I don't even have any eye makeup on in this particular photo (only brows), but I love the way my skin looks, so healthy, so glowing, so 3D!

Mastering the look is easy—all you need is a little extra natural light."
Of course, to complete the look, I added 2 NYX products, the NYX #No Filter Finishing Powder and NYX Two Timer Kohl Pencil Liner and Felt Tip Liner.

Pixi By Petra Endless Silky Eye Pen in Graphic Greige Review

I have reviewed so many Pixi By Petra products in the past and one reason that made me love the brand is that most of their products are paraben-free, mineral oil-free, preservative-free and not tested on animals.  And the best part?  Most of the products I've tried and reviewed from the said brand got thumbs up from me!

There was actually a "delay" in review of this one particular Pixi By Petra product on my part because of the tiny seal of approval from "Top-Tested Beauty Awards" (See it in pink on box?).  Well, if it got that seal, it must be good!  So I actually didn't challenge the said product until I ran out of smudge-proof, waterproof and smear-proof eye pencil.

I got the shade Graphic Greige for review and this is surprisingly a unique yet perfect shade for those who dislike to wear black eyeliner especially during daytime.

Essence Liquid Ink Waterproof Liner Review

I've chanced upon Essence Liquid Ink Waterproof liner when I was roaming around SM Makati Beauty Section looking for "new products" to watch out for.  This nifty product caught my attention because after looking at the tester, this reminded me so much of the discontinued Benefit Liquid Liner.

So based from performance, I call this the inexpensive dupe of the said product.

You are So Difficult To Use But...

...the end result is precise!

I'm talking about the newest Liquid Liner from Max Factor X called the Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Liner.  This liner isn't the usual liner you've imagined!  This is unique because of...

The paddle-shaped tip that is rounded (not pointy).
L-R Front and side view of the unique paddle-tip.  This product is said to give the intensity of a liquid liner with the precision of a pencil.  Note:  The tip isn't soft though, it literally felt like plastic paddle so I'm sharing my complete thoughts and how much I dislike/like using this!

My Kanebo Selection Colors Eyeshadow + Moisture Rouge Look

I know when it comes to makeup, there's no rules!  But at times, I actually like to use just ONE brand on major areas on my face --- like for Kanebo's case, I went for eyeshadows and lipstick from the same brand because, why not?

I recently got the Kanebo Selection Colors Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Cool Monotone and Kanebo Moisture Rouge in shade 05 Core Red.  These 2 are perfect to create a simple daytime look and can even work for night time!

I can create so many looks in just one palette but this is the easiest and simplest way using most of the shadows in the palette too!

My #MaryKayBeautyOnTheGo Looks

As a busy individual (Note: I'm not talking about just being a busy mom so this tutorial is for EVERYONE!)  I know on most days, I only have less than 5 minutes to do my makeup so if you can see my photo collage below, you can see the key products I use.. can you spot them?

Brows - check!

Eyeliner - check!
Mascara - check!

and various lipstick shades --- Check! Check! Check!

That's why when I was challenged by Mary Kay Philippines to create my own version of #MaryKayBeautyOnTheGo looks using these....

A photo of #MaryKayBeautyOnTheGo Looks

...it doesn't feel like a challenge at all, because this is how I usually wear my makeup!

a photo of #MaryKayBeautyOnTheGo Looks Nikki Tiu Askmewhats

To start with, I usually spot conceal areas around my face that needed coverage, that's the undereye area and red spots on the sides of my nose.

I like to use a lightweight press powder and for this tutorial, I used Mary Kay On-The-Go Mineral Pressed Powder in Ivory 2 (Php699.00).  There isn't much coverage on this but it sets my concealer pretty well and I like the fact that this is mineral-based so it's safe even around kids.

Lifeford Hi- Precise Eye Pen Review (Black and Brown)

I will never get tired of reviewing eyeliners!  Why?  Well, aside from the fact that this is my daily staple, it is quite exciting for me to review because I sometimes ended up with smudged liner whenever I go out with family!  (Because I usually do eyeliner testing on weekends because...they won't judge me! hahahaha)

I recently got 2 liners from a good friend Sydney of Nippon Esthetic and she told me how much she loved these liners!  I was assured these are smudge and smear-proof and of course, I knew I have to test these babies myself which took me months!

Because I'm "OC" like that.

a photo of Lifeford Hi- Precise Eye Pen

Shades reviewed --- Black and Brown
The Lifeford Hi-precise Eye Pen Eyeliner is housed in a pen-type packaging with a sharp tip brush.  Reading through description, I expect these to be quick-drying, stain resistant, long-lasting, smear and smudge-proof.  Too much to ask for a less than Php500.00 liner you say?  Well, I seriously wasn't expecting much, just applied a good amount ONE weekend and crossed my fingers praying it won't make me look like a Panda.

Cathy Doll Shocking Black Liner 24H Review

So, I've always been dependent on a good liquid liner for daily use because it just gives an "oomph" to my boring eyes.  When Cathy Doll was officially launched in the Philippines (hosted by yours truly), one of the first few makeup items I was so intrigued to try was there Shocking Black Liner!

a photo of Cathy Doll Shocking Black Liner 24H

The Shocking Black Liner is housed in a sleek black pen, what sets this apart from other brands is their "metallic pink" wordings that makes it easier to spot on a drawer-full of make up!
