How scary could a corrector get?
Well, if you own a deep orange corrector/concealer, you'll know it's scary especially since I have fair skintone.
I have an L.A. Girl PRO.conceal HD.High Definition Concealer (Php399.00) sitting inside my "to review products" basket. It was there for quite some time before I decided to whip it out especially on those 2 weeks that I was extremely sick!
Dark circles enhanced from all the coughing and lack of sleep....I knew it was the best time to try this conconcealer...well, the name states concealer but I would like to call this a corrector.
Housed in a tube packaging with brush just like that of a Stila Lip Glaze where product comes out from the center of the brush on each squeeze, I am not sure if I like this packaging or not. Honestly speaking, I like how the brush is easy-to-use and how it the tube can easily dispense the right amount of product needed, I am just on the "OC" side worrying about the excess product left on brush. I personally prefer this to be in just a simple plastic tube packaging without a brush BUT, this is perfect if you do not have a separate brush to apply your concealer.
What do you think about the packaging?
Swatch: Orange
The L.A. Girl Pro.Conceal HD Concealer comes in various shades. There's creamy beige, yellow, green and then orange. The shade orange is what caught my best interest because as we all know, in the world of "correctors", orange is known to be the perfect shade to correct dark circles --- oh, let me correct myself, it corrects EXTREMELY dark undeye circles.
As a professional makeup artist, I wouldn't touch this shade for myself because if you have fair skin, you must go for a peach corrector or somewhat "salmon" shade. Orange is the perfect shade for those who have medium to darker complexion. But again, I'm always up for a challenge!
Application
Squeeze a good amount of product, as you see the product peaking through, gently dab on the undereye area as shown below.
Note: It is EXTREMELY orange but don't panic! It's just makeup, you can always remove excess product with brush or fingers.
The shade is deep orange, feel free to pick up a clean concealer brush and blend all harsh edges. At this stage, I am tempted to remove most of the product but again, I was up for the challenge so I just left this dark blob of orange on my undereye area. At this stage, Mr. AMW was teasing me about joining a Mardi Gras.
For EVERY corrector you use or any "colored" concealers, you need to follow with a regular concealer. This is the stage that is a bit tricky, you may either choose a concealer similar shade to your skin tone or a shade lighter.
To counteract the extreme dark shade of Orange, I picked a shade lighter concealer.
I applied a hefty amount of concealer as shown on photo below because the orange corrector is a bit too dark for my liking! At this stage, I realized I applied the most amount of concealer in my entire makeup life :P
Before and After
Half Face Test
I personally think the Orange Corrector from L.A. Girl is a product made in heaven for girls with darker complexion. Because I have fair skin, I find it hard to adjust the dark orange shade back to my regular skin tone so I ended up applying a tad bit too much concealer just to hide the dark orange tint. This doesn't mean the product does not work for me, it's just not meant for users with fair complexion.
Now let's talk about the quality of the product ---
- The consistency is smooth and creamy and easy to blend.
- It stays more than half a day and if set properly, can last until makeup removal.
- Pigmentation is really good, a little goes a long way for this product.
- The L.A. Girl Pro.Conceal line is almost for professional use, I find that those start-up makeup artists may look into these because they are affordable for practice too!
Overall, I am happy L.A. Girl came out with concealers/correctors with wide range of shades to cater to girls with different skin tone.
I obviously do not need this product as I can easily hide my undereye circes with my regular concealer (with peach tone). I will definitely put this in my makeup kit though because I will never know when I'll need it.
Keep smilin'
Stay happy!
I also find the brush tip unnecessary I wish this is a removable.
