Revlon Colorstay 16 Hours Eye Shadow Review

Ah Revlon Eye Shadows....
When will they create a pigmented version of the shades that I really love?  I have a soft spot for Revlon foundations especially the Age Defying, Custom Creations and ColorStay.  Lip products?  They are mostly wonderful!  Nail polishes?  You know how much I love them as they are not too expensive yet the quality is as good as the pricier counterparts!

This time, did Revlon FINALLY come up with better eye shadows?  Ah hah!  I can make a BET with each one of you and win tons of money!  *evil laugh*

Seriously speaking, at the back of my head, I'm hoping: "This is it!"  Or wasn't it?  Read on....

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Nice plastic compact case wherein you can see the shades right away.
  • Well sealed upon purchase.  Sticker has the name of the quad printed.
  • Comes with a good double-tip sponge applicator.
  •  The back of the packaging has a clear, colored diagram/instruction on how to use the quad.
  • Some of the shades are very pigmented and silky.
  • Can be applied wet or dry.
  • Blends easily.
  • A no-brainer palette, you can be assured the shades will match however you apply.
  • Great shade choices.
  • Inexpensive for the amount of shades you get in one palette.
  • Some shades included on the palette are similar to high end eye shadow brands.
Cons
  • Color may wear off and crease easily without primer underneath.
  • Some of the eye shadow shades are chunky and not so pigmented.
Overall
The Revlon Colorstay 16 Hours Eye Shadow palettes are definitely a step better than the past eye shadow palettes made my Revlon.  I have mixed feelings with the palettes as there will always be a super nice pigmented shade and not so great chunky shade in a palette!  So it's always a 50-50 kind of liking and disliking!
Tips
from Revlon
  • Dust highlighter all over eye and up to brow bone to create a base.
  • Sweep lid shade on eyes from lash line to crease.
  • use accent shade on outer corners to create drama
  • Contour eyes by applying deepest shade in crease.
from AMW
  • Very important to apply an eye shadow primer to prevent eye shadow from creasing and fading.
  • To enhance the shades, apply a cream eye shadow base underneath.
  • If you choose to wet your eye shadow, do it on one side and leave the other side dry to prevent the eye shadow from spoiling easily.
  • If you like to use the sponge tip applicator that comes with the palette, it is best to clean it with a makeup cleaner to prevent contamination.
  •  You do not need to follow the diagram at the back and go ahead and create your own mix of colors.  Practice makes perfect!
  • Too difficult to choose which palette is right for you?  Go for shades that you would use on a daily basis!
  • If you are opting for a dark eye makeup, apply your eye makeup first before foundation to clean up the fall outs after.
Will I repurchase?
No.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Make up newbie who would want to create various looks in one quad.  This is best for practice as well as a palette contain a lot of product taking years to hit the pan!

Where to purchase and how much?
Local Revlon counters for Php550.00 (approx $12.80).

Product photos and swatches
Each of the palette was pictured without direct flash for you to see how the shades would look on pan at the same time, when swatch on hand.  I applied the eye shadow by using my clean fingers applied at the back of my hand without any base.

For the Romantics

#510 Precocious palette is a lovely day time quad that has a combination of silver, gray, pinks and somewhat maroon.  This quad is perfect for girly individuals who would want to look sweet yet mature at the same time!

For the Girl-Next-Door

#520 Brazen on the other hand is yet, another perfect quad for daytime use.  This is my favorite quad out of the bunch because of the lightest color that's perfect to highlight my brow bones and inner corner of my eyes.  The gold color on upper right reminded me so much of MAC's Amber Lights.  The soft pink shade is a lighter version of the pink from Precocious palette and the brown is a favorite of mine as it gives nice golden sheen making application a breeze as it never turn out to be dirty looking!

For the Professionals

#525 Siren is a ho-hum quad at first glance.  What's unique about this quad is the presence of a Taupe-y shade located at the upper right hand side of the palette.  That's my favorite shade at the moment, a nice wash of that shade alone gives me a nice classy look!

The silver grayish shade at the upper left is a bit chalky in my opinion.  My next favorite is the unique shade located at the lower left of the palette, it is best applied at the inner thirds of the eye to brighten up the whole look!  The almost matte, grayish black eye shadow is another least favorite of mine as it tends to look too dirty when applied on my lids!  I prefer to use an angle liner brush to apply this shade on my upper lash line for a soft liner look!

For the Young, Hip and Artistic

#540 Inspired really is such an inspiring palette to look at!  Each time I look at it, I am tempted to create a summer inspired look but most of the bright shades are quite chalky and glittery!  I have to remove some of the excess product from my hand by blowing them off before I took a shot!  The best deal to watch out for in this palette is the presence of the gorgeous Metallic Purple shade.  I like applying this shade on my crease area for a nice pop of color without going overboard.

Base on photos, which palette is the right one for you?
Tell me why! :)

Stay happy!

    1. Hi sis, I think this isn't expensive as compared to other drugstore brands! For a huge sized pan, I think the price is okay but I'm hoping for more pigmentation :) Who knows? in the future? The quality is improving I can see as compared to the past ones

  7. I have the old one of the brazen palette, and the color doesn't stay despite it being "colorstay"

I checked your entry to see if they changed the formulation, hindi pa din pala.

Anyway, I always get a kick when you put in "No" in the recommendation even when it was sent to you for review/advertorial purposes. Great job Nikki.

  10. Thanks Nikki! I saw these shadows at the counter but I didn't swatch. These reminds of the Milani eyeshadow quad. I like the colors on the pan but I think I'll pass.
