AMW Reviews: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

If you are into prettifying your nails, a good base and top coat will always come in handy.  I have heard the same complaint from various readers: "My nail polish smudges after application!"  What's the solution?  A quick drying top coat!

One of the most well known top coat brand that has been favored by many is called Seche Vite!  I've seen various nail blogs who call this the "best top coat in the world!"  That intrigued me and I nearly ordered mine via Ebay but the long wait on shipping stopped me from doing so!

As I was browsing through Facebook, a note from Digital Traincase that says: "Seche Vite - On Hand" made me literally jumped out of my seat and paid immediately!  I got my order the next day and I've been using this from one nail art design after the other!

I have mixed feelings regarding this top coat, read on to know why!

Seche Vite says ---

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is widely acknowledged as the world's finest top coat.  Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish.  Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.

Size: .5 fl oz.
Ingredients:

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Nice brush that's easy to maneuver.
  • Polish dries up pretty quick!  Around 1 minute (top dry), 5 minutes (completely dry).
  •  Application is easy and it gives a smooth finish.
Cons
  • The scent.  The scent of this top coat is way stronger than regular polish.
  • Does not give a very glossy shine as compared to other top coats.
  • Polish at times may peel off!  I really can't tell what's the cause of this but my polish peels off easily with this as a top coat.  (Kindly read tips below on how to work this out.)
  • The warning sign printed on box.  I mean, most polishes aren't safe for pregnant but having it printed on box gave me a bit of chills each time I use this.
Overall
The best quick dry top coat I've encountered to date!

Tips
  •  Not to be used as base coat.  I know some top coat doubles as base and top coat but this one doesn't work!  I mistakenly used this as a base coat and my poor nail art peeled off instantly.
  • If you want to prevent peeling or shrinkage of your nail polish while using Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, apply a layer of another brand of your favorite top coat then top just 1 layer of Seche.  My polish lasts longer with this trick.
  • Try not to apply polish in an enclosed room, try to open your room door as the scent could get overwhelming.
  • Never apply polish in front of a fan!
Will I repurchase?
No.  As I am quite patient with waiting for my nail polish to try!  The possible peeling freaks me out since I take time to do my nail art for it just to peel after a day or 2!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Anyone who are into nail polish but hates the drying time!  It is best used by people who aren't pregnant.

Where to purchase and how much?
Available locally at Digital Traincase for Php420.00 (approx $9.80).

Have you tried Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat?
What's the top coat brand you use at present and how long does it take for your polish to completely dry?
I'd love to read suggestions and comments from you!

    1. Hi there thanks for the comment, my manicure routine? it's very normal, just cut and file, I usually have someone come over the really clean my nails as I don't have the time to really bend and clean both my toenails and fingernails :)

  2. Ohhh... I heard a lot about this top coat as well, I wouldn't want my nail art to peel off as well. Most of the top coats I've tried either causes streaks on my nail art regardless if my nail art is dry or not. :(

  3. i had the same peeling effect din about it. i think the main reason why this does it is
1.the base color is not yet completely dry
2.you applied it thick (but its hard not to because this comes out as a thick goop,no?)
what i did was applied a thinner to thin it out so it doesn't peel that bad.

i have only had 1 bottle of it & im also not sure if i should be buying it.i like how fast it dries but i cant abide how squishy it is underneath while the top is already dry.

what surprises me is when you say that this is not glossy... this i think has been the one of 'glossiest, shiniest & gel-like' result that i've had for a top coat. i remember one friend said that she purchased a fake seche vite all because it dries matte-ish... matte?! that is coming from someone who have been using SV all her nail art days... maybe there's just something off with the bottle that you got? i hope not.

well,im not using this na.me thinks that there are whole tons of diff top coats just waiting to be discovered.LOL!

    1. oh I think I wasn't clear on my review ata hehehe well it's not as glossy when its dry and I'm talking about days after, my Zoya Top coat makes my polish glossy all through the week! I guess it's because I am VERY careful in applying a super thin layer of this SV that's why it probably comes off not as glossy!

But definitely NOT a matte finish I tell you! hehehehe You're right, its a whole new world of Top coat and base coat yet to be discovered!

  5. Ooh I've heard good reviews about this product, so is it over rated? Right now I'm currently using the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti Chip Top Coat, the red one...and so far I love it coz it dries up pretty quickly too and it can last up to a week, pretty much the same with the Faceshop top coat. But what I love about it is I don't mess up my nails because it dries up really quickly. :)

    1. Hi Kat, I don't think it's overrated as it is really good in terms of quick dry and you really get what it says in its brand name, DRY FAST and its the quickest drying top coat I have tried to date! :) The Face Shop Top Coat is nice, gives the gloss but of course, it's not quick dry :)

  6. It's not that overrated i think. It gets what it deserves.

    1. I agree, that's why I can't dislike it for the peeling part as I can easily do something to make it NOT PEEL! Which was working by the way! So yeah, I agree, it's a good top coat that deserves the praise

  7. The warning is everywhere in Cali. I've seen it at restaurants, shopping malls, car parks, apartments, on fashion jewelery, hair products, make up, even some kids toys. It's completely overused.

  8. hi, i just tried seche vite and i think it lives up to its reputation. it just doesn't dry the top but it helps dry the base color as well. i read somewhere that it acts that way. usually salons will say that nail polishes completely dry up in 2 hours but i was impressed that after 15-30 minutes my nails felt really dry. i used opi, orly and china glaze was testing out my new polishes and i tried tapping my nails on each one of them trying to see if there will be marks/indentations but there weren't any so i am pretty impressed on how fast it can dry up the base color. i used 2 coats. i didn't use a base coat though. but i'm looking forward to trying it out again to see its lasting power.
