Weekend Food Trip at: Yabu, SM Mall of Asia

Why do I love Yabu House of Katsu?
Well aside from the fact that AskMeWhats' thoughts of dining at Yabu were posted at the wall of "feedbacks" at various Yabu branches *shameless plug*

There's always the feeling of satisfaction when I'm craving for good Tonkatsu or Katsudon.  I've dined at Yabu SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia and SM Robinsons Magnolia numerous times but I didn't get to blog about them because I tend to order the same dish over and over again!  (Hello Hire and Seafood Katsu Set!)  Just in case you want to look back at my first time experience at Yabu, SM Megamall, feel free to revisit my blog post here

L- preggy AMW craving for Curry R-Post preggy AMW still craving for anything Yabu!

Recently, I was invited by Erika Lim of Yabu to try out Yabu's new dishes!  Thanks to her we were finally going out of our shell to try out Yabu's new offerings!

Appetizers
Choose any 2 for Php195.00 (approx $4.50)
L- Chicken Salad R-Iidako Salad
Chicken Salad contains fresh seasonal vegetables tossed with shredded chicken and crisp wanton strips in mustard vinaigrette!  This is a refreshing appetizer pre-heavy main course!  I was reminded of my favorite Heaven N' Eggs Oriental Salad (which they don't offer anymore).

Iidako Salad are baby octopus marinated in a sweet savory sauce tossed with crisp slices of cucumber.  Okay, I have to admit it, I'm not a fan of any octopus dish but this is quite unique as the baby octopus is very tender and easy to chew!

Oroshi Katsu Set
Kurobata Php595.00 (approx $13.80)
Hire Php420.00 (approx $9.76)
Rosu Php390.00 (approx $9.00)
Chicken Php370.00 (approx $8.60)
These are served with unlimited Japanese Rice or Brown rice, Miso Soup,
Organic Cabbage and a bowl of fruit.

Not for the faint-hearted, I am not a fan of radish, maybe a little of it on a dish but not this much!  I was really shocked when I got it and I was praying it won't mess up the delicious crunchy pork beneath the pile of radish!  Surprisingly, the grated radish are mildly flavored, with a good amount of grapefruit and sauce, it was a marriage of all the ingredients that made this dish unique!

Miso Katsu Set
Kurobuta Miso Php595.00 (approx $13.83)
Hire Miso Php360.00 (approx $8.37)
Rosu Miso Php385.00 (approx $8.95)
Pork cutlet topped with sweet miso sauce sprinkled with spring onions and ground sesame seed.
This dish is really unique in taste especially if you are a fan of sauce!  The miso sauce is thick and salty so it is a perfect dish with your favorite Japanese rice and cabbage!  I find this dish too heavy for 1 person so I highly recommend you share dish with your loved ones!  Mr. AMW enjoyed this dish so much he went out again the next day with his colleagues and ordered the exact same dish!

Overall, Yabu, House of Katsu, amidst opening a lot of branches, were able to maintain the quality of their old dishes at the same time, creative enough to come up with new dishes that suits the taste buds of the Filipinos!  No wonder the restaurant is always packed and people are still patient enough to line up for a good, tummy-filling, authentic Japanese dishes!
