Everyone in the Philippines would probably know the actress Kristine Hermosa. She has one of the most beautiful face in the industry and when I saw her in person years ago at Shangri-La Mall, I had to agree!
She had her hair tied up in a bun, wearing almost no makeup but a bright red lipstick! We all know that when we are in a hurry to go out but no time to put on makeup, one trick is to wear a bright-colored lipstick to create that "I don't give a damn, I am beautiful face!" Obviously, it wasn't like that in real life. (Again, not unless you are Kristine Hermosa)
Don't just me, this is the #IWokeUpLikeThis face and I just swiped my favorite L'Oreal Pure Rouge Lipstick. With that gorgeous bright matte red shade, it actually enhances the "tiredness" around my eyes and my skin looks so dull! Where is Kristine Hermosa by the way and why does she look darn good? Well, maybe, she could've worn something else, maybe she has makeup on but it wasn't obvious with my naked eye.
So after a bit of "tweaking" (and Twerking lol), I was able to achieve a better looking #IWokeUpLikeThis look and I don't look as tired on the above photo! Can you spot the differences?
If you can, congratulations! If you can't, I'll share you some of the tricks I've done for you to be able to wear bright red lipstick, a plan tee and jeans! And you're off to go!
DO NOT FORGET YOUR BROWS!
When it comes to this look, I prefer to mix the steps and start by wearing my favorite red lipstick shade first for me to be able to visualize the look I'm aiming for! In my case, I will define and fill my brows but in a very natural manner! We don't like the "instagram-worthy boxed brows" so I picked a brow powder and gently fill it in!
I used Benefit Brow Zings Light in this tutorial.
Conceal, Conceal and Spot Conceal if Needed!
Quick Concealing Tip #1: use your favorite foundation instead of concealer so you don't have to worry about blending thick concealers.
Quick Concealing Tip #2: use quick dabbing motion.
My issues are my dark undereye circles, redness around the sides of my nose and my chin area tends to look a bit dark. So I quickly dab Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion. This is my favorite "foundaton" to use as concealer on no make up days! It looks extremely natural and my skin looks healthier and brighther.
SET WITH POWDER!
Yes, I have dry skin, but that doesn't mean I can get away without setting my foundation/concealer --- it is not possible in this humid weather! To prevent my makeup from gravitating on different areas, I set it with translucent powder. Again patting motion is the key to success!
CURL THOSE LASHES and APPLY MASCARA (Especially if you have none! Like me!)
The thing with having short, sparse and invisible lashes, it is easy to just ignore it and go on with your life! I realized, after years of "I am too lazy to apply mascara as it is useless but I have to since I need to test them" that mascaras are quite important ESPECIALLY for lash situation like mine! Whenever I wear mascara (whether they are good or not-so-good), they can give this instant "made up" look even without eyeliner and eyeshadow! YES, you read that right, I actually went out without eyeliner as long as I have mascara on! The mascara makes my lashes full, darker and thicker thus my eyes look "made up".
I hope I was able to convey my message clearly here, I have a feeling I was blabbing a bit! *laughs*
Instead of piling on layers of mascara, I am happy with just 2 and leave it as it is! I also skip the lower lashes mascara application because I only have less than 5 lash hairs! *lol* #TRUESTORY
For a clearer picture, I put 2 photos together and you can see how much better my after photo look! As I am tempted to apply eyeliner and blush, I gave it a skip because this is supposed to be the "I need to get out in 5 minutes look"! And I stayed true to my words!
How do you like the effect of adding some extra makeup steps when you wear red lipstick for a very casual day?
Can you go out wearing just red lipstick without any other makeup products on?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
By the way, I plan to share another photo-torial on how to wear dark eye makeup with red lipstick! Holler if you're interested! I'll do it for you!
