That One Shadow Look

"I don't have time in the morning!"
That's the second reason why a lot of my AMW readers do not wear eyeshadow!  First one would be: "I don't know how!"

Don't worry, I KNOW how to apply eyeshadow but you always see me in this type of eye makeup application, I call this the "One Shadow Look".  And the thing is, I don't even have that extra 1 minute to blend my powder eyeshadow with a brush on some days (because sleep is life!)  so, I leaned towards to cream shadow sticks and it has to be waterproof!

Tested really well by yours truly, my favorite brand Make Up For Ever's Aqua Matic is my go-to eyeshadow for those days I just need a wash of color on the eye area!  This is also a perfect technique for monolid friends!

Aqua Matic is a waterproof and smudgeproof eye shadow that comes in an automatic retractable pencil. Thanks to its integrated sharpener the tip is always sharped as desired. Its ultra gliding formula is easily blendable just after application, offering an intense and even coverage with no transfer on the upper eye lid.  A feather weight formula for maximum effect! Aqua Matic is available in 10 shades: from classical to vibrant pop colors.

D 12 is a shimmery gray shade that works great as an eyeshadow primer or can be used alone!
This is also a perfect shade to create smoky eye makeup!

On lazy days, I also like to use this as an eyeliner pencil!  Works just as fine and the result is more natural-looking.

I can easily apply this on the waterline and it will stay .  You only need to sharpen the tip if you use this as a liner and you don't have to look for a separate sharpener, you only need to pull the bottom of the pencil and it has a built-in sharpener!

If you want to use this as a ONE shadow eye makeup look, simple tip the pencil sideways and apply on the crease area as shown on photo below.  You can create a half moon shape and add more as needed.

Using clean fingers, gently blend out harsh edges to make the shadow "fade away".  Once you're done doing 1 layer or 2, step back and see if you want to darken the color by adding another layer or more!  You don't have to worry, this is a fool-proof eyeshadow cream pencil stick!

See the difference?
Now, if you perfected this one shadow look with a cream stick, here's what you can do next to up your eyeshadow game!  Pick an eyeshadow powder of choice and top the powder to create a more defined and gradient effect!  That's smokin' baby!

Make Up For Ever's Aqua Matic is my favorite eyeshadow base or eyeshadow itself!  Why?  I've tested these sticks on underwater shoots and it works like magic!  The shadow stays without creasing or smudging so I'm loving these so much I'm hoarding more shades!

If you are planning to pick just 1, I suggest to go for shimmery shades because the effect is more natural and less chances for you to create mistakes!  Matte shadow sticks are great and versatile but I find it a bit tricky and harder to "even out" especially if you're not used to working with cream shadows!

If you are on a budget, NYX Jumbo Sticks are fine but they aren't as waterproof as the Make Up For Ever ones!

Do you use shadow sticks?
Do you do the one shadow method?

Keep smilin'

Stay happy!

  1. Nyx jumbo liner is the first thing that came to my mind seeing your swatch. I guess I need a bronzey color.
