Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara (aka the #MysteryMascaraPH) Review

I received a #MysteryMascaraPH 2 weeks ago.  A beauty company literally sends out "nameless" mascaras for Beauty Bloggers to test?  I am definitely up for that!  I have the world's most boring lashes!  Short, sparse and stick straight!

I knew early on that the brand is from Benefit, but I actually was surprised why it came as a boring black packaging so I had to Google.

Ah, Benefit Roller Lash Mascara and the real packaging looks like this....

Now that I feel much better about the packaging (yes, just like you, I won't accept boring packaging from Benefit Cosmetics!), I can now concentrate on my review on this mascara.  I used this mascara on several occasions, even when I was just staying at home doing my mommy duties!  (At least I look good no?) :P

According to Benefit Cosmetics ---
It’s a roller for lashes! The eye-opening Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls…while the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours.

Judging by the look of the wand, it is indeed meant for Asian lashes as it came with 2 sides, the curved side (with short bristles)  can easily reach out short lashes and the other side can help fan out the rest of the lashes.

Now let's talk about my lashes, if I may have to say mean things about them again and again, I will, just for you to understand how I wish I have my son's lashes!  *lol*

  • Very short
  • Sparse
  • Stick straight
  • No matter how much I curl my lashes, it always end up going straight down at the end of the day.
  • On to the lower lashes, you can literally count them, and trust me when I say they are less than 10!
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara application ---
  • I use the "inner curve" portion first to separate each lashes as it lenghtens.
  • I use the opposite side to reach out "hard to reach" short lashes.
  • I do each step by wiggling from base to tip.
  • For the sake of review, I piled up to 5 freakin' coats!

AMW's Initial thoughts on Benefit Roller Lash Mascara -
  • This mascara is seriously CLUMP-FREE!  Even up to 5 applications (each eye), my lashes NEVER clump.  They look fanned out!
  • Has amazing lengthening powers.
  • Gives a nice, natural-looking definition on my eye.  I can skip eyeliner.
  • It can give a tiny bit of "curl" on my stick straight lashes.  The curl isn't dramatic (as my lashes are super hard-headed) but the lift stays the WHOLE day.
  • It doesn't give much "volume".  So I reckon this mascara would look EXTRA gorgeous on users with thick lashes.
  • NO smearing or smudging even if I rubbed my eye.
  • Very easy to remove with regular eye make up remover.
Now on to photos, Left facing you, I wore 3 coats of Benefit Roller Lash mascara against bare lashes (right facing you).

Front view, there isn't much CURL power seen because my lashes are too short to see a dramatic result!

Side view
Without curling my lashes, the Benefit Roller lash helps Lift my lashes a teeny bit.

Overall, I find this mascara a perfect mascara for daily use!  The effect is very natural and it stays the whole day until removal!  Personally speaking, I would still curl my lashes before I use this mascara for better results.  And on days I need extra "volume", I would probably pile a layer of volumizing mascara to get the best of both worlds!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara will soon be available at Benefit Cosmetics Philippines counter near you.  I will update the prize details as soon as it is formally launched!

On the side note, "Do you open your mouth when you apply mascara?"
I used to think I don't but this photo proved I do!
