Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121 Review (Face)

When Oval brushes came out in the market, I knew I had to get them even if I own a number of face brushes as of the moment!  Especially when I chanced upon Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121?  Who can say no to this?

I do not own a lot of this type of brushes, the first one was from Purple Tags and I realized after using it that this is the type of brush you don't think you need?  But once you tried them, it is indeed life-changing!

This is a "skin brush", meaning, this brush is meant to be used on fluid foundation for a flawless finish.

What is unique about this oval brush from Etude House is the gorgeous gold-colored plastic handle.  Aside from it being aesthetically pretty and cute, it comes with an extra "sponge head" meaning, you can swap between a brush head or sponge head even between application!  Now that's unique!

I like how the handle is shaped so comfortably I don't need an "adjustment period" in using this brush.

How to quickly change or swap heads?
Just quick pull out the brush head and snap-in the other one.
The thing is, I've been using this brush for a month now and I mostly go for the bristle-head, for someone who tend to change heads between application, I wonder how many times who need to change the head before it starts to loosen up the "snap"?  For those who have used this long enough, feel free to comment below!

The sponge head is perfect for those, after foundation application and you just want to press everything together for a more seamless finish!  This sponge can also be used to apply concealer on the undereye area.

My way of application is to apply a fair amount of liquid foundation at the back of my hand, dab the brush and gently press the foundation all over the face as shown on photo below.

For heavy coverage, you may apply using quick dabbing motion all over your face (this will take a whole lot of time but the effect is worth it!)

Now, if you opt for light to medium coverage, you may blend the foundation with a gentle circular motion as what I did on photo below.

Extra tip: Dab on areas that needed heavy coverage and circular motions on areas that do not need much coverage.  You will take lesser time in foundation application!

I did say I like the way the handle feels.  I can use my finger to press the "head" of the brush for better coverage especially on areas like under the eye, sides of the nose and center of the face.  This type of application will yield more coverage.  Just like when you press a sponge.

I did say the sponge head is perfect for concealing undereye area!  You can apply with a dry sponge head for better coverage or damp sponge for medium coverage.

Overall, I feel this is a nice brush to have!  As compared to the Purple Tags brush I used, the Etude House fibers are less dense and fibers are longer than the Purple Tags one.

The Etude House brush is soft to touch and easy to use.  It never felt scratchy during application and it remains that way even after several washing.  The brush are made of synthetic hair and there wasn't any "bleeding" or "hair fall" after washing them with mild shampoo.

The Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121 is available at local Etude House stores priced at Php848.00.

Do you own an oval brush at the moment?
Do you think you need them?

I am starting to want more oval brushes because I felt my foundation application is quicker!  The best part is that, I can use this to apply both liquid, cream and powder foundation!

Keep smilin'
Stay happy!

  4. I washed mine maybe 4 times and the bristles just came off the snap-off head thing. They're still all glued together though :))

  5. I imagine that the snap closure will wear off pretty quickly. :)

  6. It's really hard for me to snap and switch the heads of the brush. Did you experience that too in the beginning?
