W.Lab 3D Face Shading Stick Review

By this time, I don't think I need to state a reason why contouring is an important part in makeup artistry.  It livens up your face at the same time, gives a slimming effect too!  I've written quite a number of blog posts on various contour products and I can see a trend for contouring nowadays.  Most contour products come in a form of stick!

My recent contour stick aside from the Happy Skin one (which I recently reviewed) is from a Korean brand called W. Lab!  I got so intrigued with these brands and I picked another one from Missha (will review the Missha one next time).

The W.Lab has a highlighting stick and shading stick.  As much as I would love to pick 2 products, I went for the latter because I have enough brightening products to brighten the whole body!  *laughs*

It comes in ONE shade only.

W.Lab 3D Face Shading Stick Says ---

AMW says ---

Pros
  • Very handy and easy to use.
  • Creamy texture, easy to blend.
  • Long-lasting as compared to contour powders.
  • Gives a very natural effect.
  • Gives a powder finish.
  • The shade/effect is very natural on my skin tone.
Cons
  • Contour sticks are more difficult to use as compared to powder.
  • May enhance skin problems if not applied properly.
  •  Online order.  If depends on how comfortable you are on online shopping.

Overall
An easy-to-use contour stick for beginners to advanced.  Works for all skin type.  The shade would match medium to dark skin.

Tips
  • If it is a first for you to apply cream contour products, use the least pressure as possible and blend with a damp sponge.
  • If you are an expert in contouring, feel free to apply with heavy hand and blend properly with brush or sponge.
  • Always stand back and see if there are obvious marks.
  • Set with powder if you have oily skin.
  • If you have dry skin like I do, cream contour products are the best way to make your skin appears healthier.
  • Can double up as a cheek color for users with fair skin.
Will I repurchase?
Yes.

To whom do I recommend this to?
For first-time cream contour wearers, this is a perfect product to start with.

Where to purchase and how much?
Got this online from Althea website priced at Php600.00.

Since I'm used to working with cream contour products, I applied a good amount all over my face as shown on photo below.  You don't have to do this in person, I applied more for the sake of making the product show up on photographs.

For me, the best tool to use is a damp sponge or damp Beauty Blender.

I also like to use the W. Lab 3D Face Shading Stick to contour my nose.

Once Blended.
Since I applied a bit too much (for photography), there is an "obvious" warmth showing up on the sides of my face.  But if applied sparingly, the effect is more natural in person.

    1. naku, that's a good question! I actually like both! Because both looks totally different, this W Lab version is more matte while Happy skin one is more natural!

  3. It was a surprise I never expect a korean brand to have this kind of dark contouring stick. I just remember your blog post way back that you've emphasize the importance of contouring in black & white photography.

  4. The colour works well on your skintone. I find it a little too warm for a shading/contouring product though.
