Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base Review

Who uses eyeshadow bases or primers?
I'm lucky to be one of those who have dry eyelid so I don't mind using eyeshadows alone and they lasts usually until removal!  Now, the negative side on having dry lids is the fact that it could be a bit difficult to blend eyeshadows at times, yes, hello dry lids!  I need a bit of oil to make my shadows blend smoothly you know!

So, I finally went for "Eyeshadow Bases", okay, I personally think consumers mistake eyeshadow base with primers!  In my humble opinion, I believe there could be a bit of difference between the two!

Eyeshadow primers at times are meant to be used not only to enhance to vibrancy of the eyeshadows, it also has oil-control properties to help prevent eyeshadow from creasing.  As for Eyeshadow bases, they have similar properties on helping eyeshadows appear more vibrant, more blendable but some of them lacks the ability to prevent creasing.

And that enough said, I would call the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base to be just the base minus the oil-control.  That's based from months of testing....

AMW says ---

Pros
  • Packaging.
  • The shade is universally flattering.  Can create brighter looking eyes even without eyeshadow on.
  • Easy to blend.
  • Can make eyeshadow colors appear better and more vibrant.
  • Can help eyeshadow stay a bit longer than just wearing eyeshadow on its' own.
  • Multi-tasking, can be used as an eyeshadow base, eyeliner base and eyebrow makeup base.
Cons
  • Eyeshadow may still crease especially for users with extremely oily lids.
  • If you have dry lids like I do, blending isn't as smooth as other primers/eyeshadow bases that I used.  It has a bit of tugging but that's just me.

Overall
A nice base to keep your shadows appear more vibrant and can help extend the wear of your eyeshadow, eyeliner and even brow products.

Tips

  • Best to apply on clean eyelid.  After application, wait for a couple of seconds for the product to settle (less tacky) and apply eyeshadow as usual.
  • Apply all over lid, lower lashline and even brows.
  • Use an eyeshadow primer that has oil-control properties if you have extremely oily lids.
  • A little goes a long way so try not to apply too much.
Will I repurchase?
Yes.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Users who has normal or dry lids, extremely oily-lidded may still need the help of an eyeshadow primer with oil control underneath.

Where to purchase and how much?
At beauty stores priced affordably at Php149.00 (approx $3.00).

Packaging is simple yet easy to use. I like the doe foot applicator and I like that I can spritz it with alcohol to sanitize after every use without the sponge disintegrating.

Swatch:
A nice light golden beige shade.

As for application, I prefer to apply 2-3 dots on the lids and immediately blend using fingertips.

I also like to apply on the lower lashline to prevent eyeliner or eyeshadow from smudging.

If you like to use eyeshadow powder, this is a great "base" to keep the powder from doing a disappearing act midday.

  1. I agree. It has poor oil control (at least on me). I have really oily lids and this did not prevent eyeshadow from creasing. Most of my foundations are better at preventing creasing.
