Askmewhats Reviews: Ecotools Mineral Brush Set

Great day everyone!!!
Today is a humpy Wednesday and also last day of work for the week! Yes, it's the Lenten season, I know a lot of you have to work on holidays (I know how that feels), but cheer up! It won't be long and weekend is crawling around the corner! :)

Today is another review day!!! Everyone's probably raving about the brush sets from Ecotools and I really took time getting to know each one of them before I go on with a review. Do I like them? Are they worth it? Read on please....

Here's the pretty packaging
I love that it's resealable, can reuse!

Aren't they pretty?

Askmewhats says ---

Mineral Powder Brush
(length: 5 inches)

Pros
  • when washed: No bleeding and shedding
  • hair is dense

  • the size of the brush is perfect for my face, great to apply Mineral foundation and even non-mineral foundation all over the face
  • dual purpose: Can also be used to apply blushes
Cons
  • none
Concealer Brush
(length: 4.5 inches)

Pros
  • no bleeding and shedding
  • very dense, perfect to apply concealer
  • if eyes space is big, can also be used as eyeshadow brush
  • after washing, no flyaways

Cons
  • none
Eye Shading Brush
(length: 4.5 inches)

Pros
  • no bleeding or hair fall
  • works great as highlighter brush
  • very soft
Cons
  • because of it's size and fluffiness, I find it hard to use this as a blending brush for my eyes, tends to remove all the hardwork I've done for my eye makeup

Baby Kabuki
(length: 2 inches)

Pros
  • no bleeding, shed's a hair or two on first wash
  • size is perfect to carry along
  • hair is soft

Cons
  • too soft, no control on the hair
  • if you are looking for medium to heavy coverage, this is not a kabuki brush for you

Overall

The star brushes in this set is the Mineral Powder Brush and Concealer brush. The other 2 is just "ok". The hemp pouch is good too, but you cannot store your brushes straight, you have to put the brushes in diagonal, which is weird! But since it's free, what more can I ask for? lol

For the price, I am impressed with the quality of the brushes. This is not the best brush set around but not bad at all! I know this has been tagged as Mineral Brush Set but this set works even to non-mineral makeup user. I love that this set is handy. It would be perfect if they included an eyeshadow brush in this set. :D Well, am I asking too much? lol

Handy Dandy!

Tips

Mineral Powder Brush
  • use this to apply mineral foundation all over face in a circular, buffing motion.
  • can also use this to apply powdered blushes
Concealer Brush
  • you can use this for both cream, liquid concealer , to conceal blemishes and under eye circles
  • this brush can also be used to apply eyeshadows or pigments if you have larger eye space
Eye Shading Brush (looks like blending brush)
  • used to blend eyeshadow to remove harsh lines
  • can also use this to apply shimmer powders areas you want to enhance (cheekbones, nose bridge, browbone, temple, etc...)
Baby Kabuki
  • can be used to apply blush
  • this brush can be used to apply setting powder
  • you can use this brush to apply mineral foundation or regular foundation if you want light coverage
  • if you want heavier coverage, squeeze the brushes closely together during application
Will I repurchase?

Not this set, but for other Ecotools brushes, yes.....

Where did I purchase and how much?

At the Makeup Mix Shop for $11.75 (approx Php576.00) <-- sad to say out of stock already

Do you own a brush set?
What's your "must bring" brush set when you travel?

  1. I would like this brush set a tad bit better if they have a nicer packaging...yeah,I am so vain.

If I travel, I think I will just bring some cheek stain and some lip balm...eye make up tend to get everywhere so I just give up wearing them out that much...

I think I will have my mascara comb though...

  2. I love EcoTools brushes!! I agree with you about the blending brush, but I actually really love the baby buki. It gives me a really nice, smooth finish for light-to-medium coverage. I really, really, really hope that EcoTools produces a full-sized kabuki though. I think that'd be awesome. I high recommend EcoTools' full sized blush brush, eye shading brush (for cream shadows) and their brow grooming set as well. If you like dusting on setting powder, I love their full sized powder brush as well, but some people find that one too floofy to be of much use. I like using it for blending out blush if I happen to apply too much. =)

  3. I own the kit as well. i love it except for the eye shading brush as you mention..the size and fluffiness removes the goodness.
thank you for sharing your review on this!

  4. I saw a set of these in NYC last December when I was there. They were sealed so I didn't want to buy them just in case they shed (that's my pet peeve). But it seems like the quality is rather good. I have enough brushes for now, but this is something to consider when I need to make a new purchase.

  5. I have the 6pc brush set from EcoTools and I love it except for the powder brush. It's hard to control it coz it's too soft and fluffy. I just used it for applying glows or finishing powders. Nevertheless, I love EcoTools and I wouldn't mind purchasing them again and again.

  6. they are really so so so soft!!! i guess i wont repurchase the same set again since i guess they can last almost forever? :D

  7. Citrine , I know what you mean about the packaging, but when i started to complain, I'll think of the price and I'll shut up, it is indeed good quality brushes for the price :) Before, I never thought mascara combs are that important! Until recently!!!

Catherine, you are right about the baby buki! it's definitely great for light coverage! and I am loving it for my setting powder You know me, i try to get the "best" out of every product I use :)

  8. Yu, no worries, it's my pleasure to share this!

Liz, I do believe you do have enough brushes :) LOL thanks for the comment sweetie!

Tish, I've been meaning to get the 6pcs but the baby buki really caught my attention :) I wouldn't mind purchasing from them too! Great price for good quality and the great added factor of being environmental friendly! :D

  10. Hi sis! i'm thinking of getting a baby buki for quick touch-ups, but i want to know which is bigger in size: everydayminerals baby buki or the one from ecotools? thanks!

  11. I have the other brush set, I got it the same time I got my elf studio brushes. I wasn't impress by Ecotools as much as ELF. :(

For the price I paid for Ecotools, I think I rather get more ELFs the next round.

And it's a weird pouch for the ur brushes!

Btw, hope u dun mind me answering CZEL's Q, EDM baby buki is much smaller than Ecotools. I have EDM baby buki :)

  15. *giggles* I just wrote today about not wanting an Ecotools set! I might be swayed by the individual brushes though :)

Plue, now now, that is something new! hahaha I wasn't that impressed with ELF brushes..lol maybe I'm checking out the wrong brushes :) True about the pouch though, I find it weird too! LOL

Beeyoutiful7, if you do have enough brushes, you can skip this, but if you are looking for travel brushes, these are nice

  20. teeyah, thanks Teeyah, I am sorry you have to work through Holy Week! God bless sis and advance Happy Easter!

Mary, maybe if they go on sale on your local drugstores? You can give them a go! :)

PB, definitely go for individual brushes, coz you don't need all these. Girl! We do think alike don't we???

Thiamere, awww..foundation brush, let me know if you received yours, I've seen the Face Shop's one and they are good!!!

  21. Audrie, you're welcome! I appreciate you reading it!

Fuz, I do love your reviews though, very organized and detailed, I can't organize my thoughts at times..LOL

  22. I just bought this set today (as well as the older set they released last year) and can't wait to use it tomorrow =) Thanks for doing a detailed review on this.

  25. I want one! Been waiting for this review.. Thanks much Nikki!!! =)

  26. i got the 6-piece one instead of the 5. i haven't gotten my hands on them yet, though. i don't really bring a brush set when i travel. just one or two brushes are okay already because i know i won't have time to put much makeup anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Happy, yay!!! Enjoy! let me know your thoughts on them!

Yumeko, I guess I got super intrigued with the cute kabuki! I was choosing between the 2! Well I guess it'll have to wait til I want the other set or not! :)

Khymm, hey! no worries, it's my pleasure, I'm glad my review came on time *hugs*

Musicalfanlovesminerals, oh you ordered too? I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the 6-pcs brush set, I've been choosing between the 2 but i ended up with this because I was looking into the Kabuki and the blending brush :) I know what you mean about not being able to put make up when you're on travel! :)

  28. i find it totally weird that it doesn't lie in the packaging properly...only diagonally. it increases the chances of the bristles bending a bit...no?
but thanks for the review! this is actually the one that i am looking for...but i keep finding the other one...ah ecotools...soon baby soon :P

    ReplyDelete
  29. i'm looking for good blusher brush.. what would you be recommended for me ?

    ReplyDelete
  30. i LOVE ecotools. I have their foundation brush- has not shed ONE hair! and soooo soft!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rasilla, I know, they can just make the packaging longer. Hahaha goodluck, I hope you find yours soon! But honestly, you can skip this and go for their individual brushes :)

Syn@3sTH3sl@, it really depends, are you going for a contouring blusher blush? or just blush brush that you would apply on your cheeks? You can use MAC, if it's too expensive, you can try Everyday Minerals, you can find locally at Watson's but you have to check on the hair, make sure it's non scratchy. I use Shu Uemura travel face brush for my blusher brush :)

Paint Me Gorgeous, I know about the softness, it's SERIOUSLY soft and you're right about the NO Shedding at all! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. How AMAZING are these brushes? I think they are better than any other brushes that I own...including MAC. And they are eco-friendly. I LOVE them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i agree i think they're super soft but they made some of the brushes too flimsy

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm still waiting to get my hands on these brushes. I always see the other set (the one with the eyelash comb) but I want this one! Thanks for the great review! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. B, I love it too that they are eco friendly! :)

Renren, true about the flimsiness on some brushes but it's still workable!

    Vanessa M, :)

A Rose, no problem, it's my pleasure and I hope you find the mineral set soon enough!

    ReplyDelete
  36. now, you wanna make me buy it so much! wait til i get my hands on that baby...lolz..joke!

    ReplyDelete
  37. This would be another "I don't need it but I want it" situation. I reckon it will be months before this arrives in Australia :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. Debi, hahahah well in time, save ka muna :) I saw your Glish brush set ha! hehehehe

tine, this is the same feeling! I really don't need another brush set but I wanted it!! So I got it..gosh! when can we ever STOP? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  39. i actually tried the face brushes from ecotools at a local lush store and to me they were a little scratchy. maybe it's because the lush employees didn't wash them? but they do look super soft. thanks for the review!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jensmakeupbag, oh no..this is definitely super soft and non scratchy at all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have a general question to anyone who happens to read this. If I am buying a brush set, which one is needed more: the 5-piece, the 6-piece or should I purchase both? I'm only just now starting to wear any kind of makeup and I have absolutely no brushes at all.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Shini-tenshi, to be honest, if you're just starting up and you are only trying to put makeup on yourself, start with ONE brush set, then you can build your collection base on what you need as you go on.

You look at the brushes and see which functions you would use the most. The 5pcs set is more on the face brushes, and the 6pcs set has the eye brushes. Take a look at both and see which one would be more useful for you :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks! I had actually brought both sets already but was wondering if I should keep both or just return one. After reviewing various sites (including yours) about the price of brushes in general and the overall quality of ecoTOOLS' brushes, I figure I should keep both sets. At $12 for each set, it doesn't seem to be too bad of a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  44. how would u compare this set to suesh or charm brushes? how about lumiere brushes? thanks

    ReplyDelete
  45. shini_tenshi , yes both sets are worth it :) I know what you mean!

Tei, I use them all! LOL For Charm, they are more on natural hair same with the Suesh one, but for ecotools it's all synthetic bristles. I haven't used any Lumiere travel sets..so I can't really tell. But you can always start by choosing something that you would use for travel, that's how I choose my travel brushes :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Nikki! do you know if Make up Masala has other payment options than paypal? I don't have a credit card kasi :)) I just have the BPI express teller international, the Suesh replacements came but they were rather faulty so I asked to have my old brushes back nalang then I'd save up to switch to Ecotools, it's synthetic so I'm quite sure it wont smell :))

Thanks for the review! helped me make up my mind on brush shopping

    ReplyDelete
  47. omg ! i really want to have that as my first ever brush set .. but unfortunately , i think it's very impossible for me to have this one :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. Chelle, so far, I only know paypal option as payment, its easy to apply naman as long as you have credit card and its safer

    Aubrey, who knows? Someday!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. thanks sa reply ate nikki :)
    someday ? i don't think so .. hehehe :)
i don't have paypal kc kaya hindi ako maka-order :(
