Readers' Corner: "What's My Hair Color?"

After seeing my photos of my sexy back!  *laughs*  Hair, I mean the hair ok?  A lot of my readers have been asking me where I had it done or what shade was it!

Here's the thing about my hair color!  *rewind sound*

My hair has always been boring!  When you read my previous post on rebonding in China, it was also in China that I had my first hair color!  I guess it has to do with boredom and missing the family and hanging with my hair salon friends too much!  I've said yes to a couple of hair treatments that was offered to me by the hair salon just right next to my apartment!  No wonder they love me dearly and gave me a free membership card!  Damn it woman!  I just can't say "no"!  *laughs*

Anyways, the first hair color that was professionally done to my then "virgin" hair was reddish!  It's not the scary reddish color, it's actually nice because my hair looks dark and black on regular lighting but fire-y red under the sun! When I got back home, I can't keep up with the "reddish" hair so I had to do something about it!  I'm not the type who would go to a salon to spend much for a hair color, so my best and most inexpensive alternative is to purchase my own "at home color care treatment".  My first was from L'Oreal Feria line! The shade?  Has to do with "something BROWN" or "BROWN something" --- Beats me!  I can't remember! hahaha

Since then, I've had occasional salon color treatments but most of the time, it was done at home.  And my most recent hair color was from a different brand which I also love --- Revlon ColorSilk Beautiful Color.  I purchased this because the shades available are mostly natural looking and they have a lot of range of browns!

For those who are intrigued, my recent hair color is from a box.....

Light Golden Brown no. 54

The box includes ---
  • application instructions
  • plastic gloves
  • Ammonia-free colorant
  • Cream Color Developer
  • Nourishing After Color Conditioner

This costs around Php350++ (approx $8.00) but I purchased mine at The Duty Free Philippines with the Peso Power rate of Php40.00 for $6.50 (Php260.00) so I stocked up!  2 boxes! :) I wanted to purchase more but hey, I've only got one head and one set of hair!  *laughs*  Let's not be greedy! :P  For now, Light Golden Brown is love! :)

Revlon 54 Light Golden Brown
color treatment done around June 2010
So it has been almost 4 months, I guess it's time to re-color!

What's your current hair color?
I may sound like an adventurous one but I've always been on the safe "brown" side!

Keep smilin'
Stay happy!

  2. I use Colorsilk too! That and Garnier as alternate since it's cheaper and includes 2 (yes, 2!!!) sachets of conditioner with the other to use after 1 month to maintain hair color.

  3. Hi Nikki I also used Revlon Color Silk a week ago with the Dark Auburn Shade. The SA recommended the Light Brown as well but my hair is always brown. I wanted a more reddish color for a change. After putting it, it showed a brownish red (more brown though) color on my hair. After a week its now a light brown shade. Though I was disappointed that it was not the auburn red i wanted brown is my failsafe color. I'll try the L'oreal preference deep auburn next time :)

  9. Roxy, I like Feria, but if I wanted something more inexpensive and also works, I go for this :)

Nikkiz, I haven't tried Garnier pa, I find their shades a bit too dark? :)

Jetsetter_30, oohh if you want the red to show, you should never use any "DARK" to it, as our hair started out dark, that's why I use LIGHT because it shows up "medium" against my natural hair color! Enjoy the next color!

Michelle, hahahaha *high five* :) There's quite a number of us who uses this brand!

  10. Khymm, wow...well it's really nice if you have it done in a salon! :)

Anastacia, thank you! Aaww, same here, I wish to meet you :)

Lynx, the red that looks really natural is a nice kind of red, I'm scared of those fire red versions that screams..LOOK AT ME :)

    Gio, thank you!

  11. Hi Nikki! I'm a regular reader of your blog and I especially enjoy your review of hair products and your nail art tutorials (though I haven't tried 'it çoz I don't think I'm artistic enough hahaha) :)

Anyway, I also like "changing" my hair color because for me black hair is kinda harsh-looking and looks flat. Before, I go to salons to have semi-permanent dyes, which washes out in a couple of months. I prefer reddish to reddish-brown shades. Then just last month, I tried to dye my hair at home for the first time! I used Revlon Colorsilk Dark Auburn #31. I wasn't so satisfied with the color because it looks too dark. So a couple of days ago, I decided to color my hair again. This time, a SA assisted me and suggested the color you used Light Golden Brown #54. But when I got home, I got worried that it might be TOO light for my hair and complexion. I'm a morena so I don't think a very light colored hair will suit me. So I had it changed to Medium Reddish Brown #44. I love the results naman :) It's nice to see the outcome of that Light Golden Brown. It's not too light pala. Might try it next time hehe :)

Btw, how did you dye your long hair? Mine's slightly long and honestly I had a difficult time "dye-ing" the mid-part downwards. Im just curious hehe :)

  12. Joy P, we've always have trouble with at home hair color treatment because we always purchase the DARK something or MEDIUM something, but against our dark hair, it won't show up! Our hair won't go blonde in an instant, major steps are needed to strip off the natural hair color to be able to sport the "blond Look" , light colored boxed hair color is great for dark colored hair to make the color show up! It comes out medium colored :)

I've done it twice by myself, I agree, it is hard , it takes time, I section it into many sections. But because my hubby loves me so much, he helps me dye my hair! :)

  13. hi! I just came across your blog and I love it! I learned a lot from your posts --from lipstick to hair color. Just want to share to you about hair color. I just dyed my hair with chestnut color at a salon and I really wasn't satisfied with the result. It wasn't at all natural and I guess I looked older than my age. (i'm 29 by the way)...I was kind of amazed to know that you actually dyed your hair by yourself. I think I should try that one too. Think about the savings you will have if you will do it by yourself. Hayyz, I'll just have to bear with this color and will try that Revlon colorsilk next time :(

  14. hi Nikki! I'm a subscriber of your blog.Just curious how many boxes of dye do you consume per coloring session?

  15. Hi anonymous Im glad you learn na using box is ok! I am sorry you don' like the color done to you! Good luck on your next at home treatment!

Mildred I only use one box! It is enough :)

  16. Hello. I have a semi long virgin black hair. My first dye job was done in a salon too. Same experience, I have super red hair under sun :( which i do not want at all. I want something brown that shows but not to loud. Something that is not to obvious when my roots grow again. Any advice? Thanks :)

  17. @Chloe Before you go for your next color, make sure your hair is not damaged and get it back at least to its healthy state.

Have you tried at home hair color? I've always been a fan of that as the result is always "just right" and never too bright. If you are looking for somewhat brownish, go for Medium Brown shade, I am a fan of Light Golden Brown because it shows up "Medium brown" shade that shows up but not too vibrant :)

Since you have reddish hair, have it tweaked in a salon to be sure, but make sure to choose for Brown shades!

  18. Thanks! :D will purchase a box of it tom. My hair has a lot of split ends, and not that healthy though. Sakto lang ba yung 1 box sa length nong hair mo? Kasi mga 2 inch longer yung buhok ko and not so layered. thanks :D

  19. @Chloe I believe 1 box is enough! Just start concentrating on the "root area" then gently brush down! mine naman marami pang sobra lagi so I think one box is enough for your hair! :)

  20. Thanks again:) Last question, How long did you leave it and nagshower cap ka pa ba? Thanks again:)

  21. Pwede na ba agad ishampoo pagtapos magkulay o iririnse lang ng tubig yung dye? tska best conditioner sa colored hair to keep it vibrant?c:

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Chloe There's super clear instructions naman that comes with the box, and nope, no need for shower cap :) Usually, you just need to rinse it with conditioner which also comes with the box :)

  23. hello po! I was just browsing along the net, battling with myself on what hair dye to wear next, I was just curious on your photo, your hair is a bit of a reddish shade, yung light golden brown na po ba ang gamit nyo? thanks po! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. @hashpeh Light golden brown will come off as just medium/light brown, the reddish shade you see is probably from all the hair colorings I've done, it won't come out red :)

  25. hi, color black po hair ko, and I wnt that color . anu kaya kakalabasan ? and after how many weeks pwedeng kulayan ang hair pagkatapos irebond?

    1. a bit darker brown, if your hair is super dark, the color may not come out as quick. After rebond mas maganda a month para sure!

    1. chestnut brown, medyo medium to dark brown siya so hindi siya ganon ka obvious. kung gusto mong kitang kita, kelangan light brown (but depends on your hair color) baka di pa rin masyadong kitang kita! If you want makita talaga mas sure ang salon! :)
