Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting and Color Correcting Primers Review

Primers, I can never get tired of them!  It's not because I use them a lot on myself but I use primers on all my clients depending on the needs of their skin!  I've gone through and tested a whole lot of primers and so far, they've all been put to use and I always welcome new primers as one is never enough!

Revlon created a Photoready line meant for High Definition photography!  When I was just starting out collecting makeup, I search high and low to look for face primers available locally but obviously, I didn't find a lot so I tend to shop online or ask a friend to help me purchase when they're on travel!

Today, one of the oldest name in drugstore makeup Revlon finally created a face primer they can call their own!

Revlon Photoready
Perfecting Primer and Color Correcting Primer

Revlon says ---
Revlon’s NEW primers are lightweight primers that soften skin and diffuse light to help minimize flaws and even out skin texture. It creates a perfect canvas so that your foundation will glide on more evenly and smoothly. Primers can be worn alone or under foundation, and are oil free, talc free, fragrance free, paraben free.

Revlon PhotoReady™ Perfecting Primer to soften skin, reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines, and smooth skin texture and tone.
Revlon PhotoReady™ Color Correcting Primer to brighten skin and neutralize redness while evening out uneven skin tone.

Size: 0.91fl oz./27ml

Pros
  • Sealed upon purchase.
  • Pump packaging, similar to Revlon Photoready foundation.
  • Both primers feel soft and light upon application.
  • Blurs out lines and pores.
  • The Perfecting Primer does give a nice smooth finish, making foundation application a tad bit easier.
  • The Color Correcting Primer does give my face a "brightened up" look without the sparkles.
  • A little goes a long way.
Cons
  • People allergic to silicone ingredient may break out.
  • Though oil-control isn't the best asset of this primer, I still hope they have something that would prolong the appearance of oil.
  • Tricky to apply, can make your foundation looks flaky if not blended well.
  • May clog pores due to its silicone content.
Overall
These are definitely better than the Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer (review HERE).  These 2 doesn't have the heavy silicone-y feel and definitely dries up quicker and the feel is definitely better.  Both primers work in terms of creating a smooth canvass prior to foundation (powder and liquid) application, both primers do act as a barrier between your skin and your foundation thus making your makeup last for a good 4-6 hours (depending on your skin condition).  In my humble opinion, this is a good primer but NOT the best primer in the market.

Tips
  • Primer is best applied with clean fingers.
  • Apply primer after skincare routine before foundation application.
  • Allergic to silicone but still want to give this product a try? Do a patch test!
  • Application must be quick to get an even coverage.
  • Wash your face well before going to bed, primers may take a bit longer to remove!  I strongly suggest to cleanse your face well to prevent clogged pores.
  • After application, wait for a couple of minutes before you proceed with your foundation.  In this way, you make sure your primer is completely dry and not create weird patches upon foundation application.
Will I repurchase?
No, I'm not a primer user and I think my clients would demand something more.

To whom do I recommend this to?
People who aren't allergic to silicone, who are on a budget and likes the advantage of using a face primer.

Where to purchase and how much?
Locally at Revlon counters for Php825.00 (approx $19.18).

Product photos and swatch

Perfecting Primer - almost white in color
Color Correcting Primer - lavender shade

Both primers have a cream-like texture,
not as heavy as other silicone based primers.

Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer
Applied all over this side of my face, lines under the eyes have reduced and it does have a bit of moisturizing properties.

Revlon PhotoReady Color Correcting Primer
Lavender based primer gives a nice boost to my dull-looking skin.  Skin looks more vibrant and fresh immediately after application.  The lines around my eyes did blur out a tiny bit.  So far, I'm leaving onto this as my favorite due to its brightening properties!  (I have this thing for subtle glow!)

The different isn't drastic but looking closely, Perfecting Primer gives my skin more "moisture".  The silicone content immediately filled in the lines around my eyes and sides of my nose thus lessening the dry look on those area.  On the other hand, the brightening effect of Color Correcting Primer is a bit visible in person if you look closely.

How's the oil control and hold of the primer?
Please take into consideration that my skin is normal/dry combination.  I applied Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting and Color Correcting on each side of my face and both have the same effect in terms of longevity of makeup.  My makeup around the "drier" areas stayed as usual making my skin looks fresh even after 6 hours but the areas that "oil up a tiny bit" like that on the sides of my nose and forehead, redness have definitely peeked through!  Meaning, my foundation has disappeared a bit on those areas even with primer underneath.

Which among the 2 would you pick for daily use?
Are you intrigued with Revlon PhotoReady Primers?
Have you tried them?  How's your experience?  I'd love to hear from you!

  2. I have the perfecting primer. I find that it does help makeup goes on a bit more smoothly, especially the liquid, powder not so.

i don't think it has any oil control properties, I still need to blot like every 2 hours!

    1. I agree, it makes my skin smoother too! I agree with the oil control properties! Ahh Malaysia and Singapore, oh man! My waterproof eye makeup smudges all over when I was there! it was really humid! So if you say something stays in your skin with that kind of weather, I'm sure it's great! :)

  3. Hello

I like that Revlon came up with an oil free and paraben free primer but I cringed when I found out that it has silicone. Why can't beauty companies do away with that ingredient. Until then, I will hold off buying a primer for myself ; (

    1. well, silicone is used to fill in "lines" and also help smoothen out your skin, I guess that's one huge reason why companies can't remove it! I believe most silicone based makeup products give really a nice, smooth canvass talaga!
