I Wonder: Will You Splurge on Lipsticks?

Good Monday morning AMW Friends!
I have a quick question on top of my head that I would like to hear your thoughts!  I recently got a Guerlain Lipstick from an event I attended and it was actually sitting on my table dresser for quite sometime before I decided to use it (for the sake of sharing my thoughts).  It pains me when I started applying it on my lips because I want to keep it forever!

A bit of background about me, don't get me wrong, I don't mind splurging on foundation, eyeliners, brow products, etc...but I am "okay" with inexpensive lipsticks as long as they don't dry out my lips!  I actually have all the "mid-range" to "pricey" lippies inside my makeup traincase and leave the inexpensive ones behind for me to use!  Low maintenance itech!  :P

Before this goes straight to my traincase, I've decided to try this out and see what the fuss is all about.

Priced locally at Php2,500.00

Silver bullet packaging
Quite heavy as compared to other lipsticks I own.

Guerlain Rouge G 66 Gracia
On tube, Gracia has a mauve surface with soft gold shimmers.

Now upon application, Guerlain's Rouge G feels really smooth and creamy on lips.  One swipe reveals an opaque ruby shade with brown undertone.  I can always "deepen" the color by applying more and my lips would never feel dry or feather.

The texture is lightweight, there is a subtle shimmer so I can get away without a lip gloss on top.  It has a very light scent that disappears a couple of minutes after application.

Now on to the packaging, it is a tad bit heavier (almost paperweight feel) so I may appreciate how nice-looking it is on my dresser, I like to leave it that way as I dislike the extra weight/bulk especially when I travel with Baby AMW.  His baby bag is heavy enough I wouldn't want to bring anything else!

Thankfully, the lipstick is quite long-lasting!  The color stays until I stayed home so that could be one explanation why the price tag is hefty!

Shade Gracia may look a tad bit darker on you but because I have highly pigmented lips to start with, it looks quite natural and almost a MLBB (My Lips But Better) on me.

Personally speaking, splurging on a lipstick is NOT my thing but maybe it could be yours if the packaging/exterior look is very important to you plus the fact that you get nice, creamy yet lightweight lipstick that is non-drying and stays more than 4 hours -- yes, you may go ahead.

As for me, I have found a couple of more inexpensive lipstick brands that works just as the same.  So my answer is, NO I will not splurge on lipsticks for MYSELF.  :)

How about you?
Do you want me to share to you a list of inexpensive lipsticks that works for super dry lips?

  1. Nope! Maybe I'd splurge on high-end foundations, but not lipsticks.

  3. The colour looks pretty on you but truth be told, it's not a very unique shade. I bought a Guerlain G lipstick a long time ago and it is unlikely I'll splurge on it again. I hardly take it out because it is so heavy. And you're right, it feels like a paperweight!

    1. I know what you mean, if the shade is extremely unique, maybe right? :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Though it feels good to own at least one! :D

  4. I don't think I'll splurge on lipsticks. As long as the formula doesn't irritate my lips, it's from a reputable brand and the lead content is acceptable, I'll buy it. FYI, even more high-end designer lipsticks have very high lead content. I was actually surprised to find that good ol' inexpensive Avon has one of the lowest lead contents. I've tried different brands of cosmetics from drugstore to mid-range to high-end/designer and I can say that price does not guarantee quality. :)

    1. I know what you mean! I have seen inexpensive lipsticks to work even better too! I guess it really boils down to your preference, some people are so into lipsticks, it is ok to splurge on them since that's the only makeup product they use on their face :D thanks for sharing your thoughts Ria :D

  5. It's probably a No for me too since I think there are a lot of dupes there for high end brands or better. I'm really not into brands when it comes to makeup so anything is okay for me as long as the formula is good and I don't have any bad reactions.

  6. No, I won't. P2500 maybe for a pair of very well made shoes, but not lipstick. I have tried basically most brands from high to low and all I can conclude is... A lipstick is a lipstick is a lipstick. My old reliable, Nichido's Apple Cider, costs only P88 and is a true, absolute everyday favorite. I cannot live without it. These days, cheap does not always equate with poor quality. =)

    1. totally agree with this statement: cheap does not always equate with poor quality.
But yeah, it boils down to my comment above, it depends on what we are really into, some would splurge on lipsticks not on shoes or bags...etc.. :D

  7. If it were the perfect lipstick - unique flattering shade, intensely pigmented, very creamy and lasting from morning til night - then I may be tempted to. But usually I prefer cheaper options.
