Cover Girl Ready, Set Gorgeous Base Makeup Review

If there's one drugstore brand that gives me the warm fuzzy feeling, it is Cover Girl!  I believe I've shared to you my Cover Girl "tambay" story a couple of blog posts ago!  Yes, I was a Cover Girl SM Sta. Mesa branch tambay way back and I've purchased a lot of Cover Girl make up using my hard-earned salary from the Airlines a decade and a half ago!  So seeing this brand coming up with new and better collection excites me!  I felt proud for the brand because I used to memorize all their products...and now, I can't keep track!

Jinkie, Brand Manager of Cover Girl, is also a good friend because we hit it off after I've done a project with them during the BDJ fair!  I missed the Bloggers' Event of Ready Set Gorgeous but she was kind enough to bring the set for me to try when we met up for coffee!

I've used all 3 on my previous Photo-torial on Office Ready makeup and after months, I'm finally ready to share my thoughts on each product.

And yes, I used drugstore makeup for Office Ready makeup because I can still remember how I started with drugstore makeup!  I may own a lot of makeup now from different brands for professional use but I still go back to using drugstore brands personally because some are really good!  Why would I pay for if I can get the same good quality at fraction of the price?

The Ready Set Gorgeous includes ---
  • Fresh Complexion Oil-Free Foundation
  • Oil-Free Concealer
  • Fresh Complexion Oil-Free Powder Foundation

Let's start with the Fresh Complexion Oil Free Foundation.  I got shade 105 (Classic Ivory)
Thankfully, this foundation is housed in my favorite foundation packaging of all time!  A simple tube where I can easily squeeze out the right amount of product I need!

Shade 105 is the lightest in the range and I would say it would suite users with cooler complexion or with pink undertone!  I don't know about you but friends and brand always categorize me for someone to use the lightest or 2nd to the lightest foundation shade!  You would be surprised if I tell you I usually use medium foundation shade because I may be fair but I have too much "yellow undertone" or "warmth" I even call myself "TOO HOT!" Pun intended!

Swatch at the back of my hand

Application: AMW Style
I like to squeeze a bit on tube, grab a foundation brush and gently pat the product concentrating at the center of my face.  Lastly, I use a damp Beauty Blender and blend out harsh edges!

As you can see, the foundation is light on my skin but I don't mind using this because I can easily set with a darker powder foundation shade!

Here are my thoughts on the Oil-Free Foundation ---
  • Lightweight.
  • Has light to medium coverage.
  • Can be layered for better coverage.
  • Can double up as concealer as it can lessen spots and dark undereye circles.
  • Non-greasy.
  • Gives a matte finish.
  • Doesn't break me out.
  • Has decent oil control so works well even on oily skin!  (you only need to set with powder)
  • May create dry patches if you have extremely dry skin. (moisturize your skin prior to foundation application!)

On to the Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer

Shade: 205/210 (Light/Medium)
Again, this shade is too light for me but I'm not worrying because I end up using this as my "highlighter"!

I like liquid concealer at times because they are easy to work with especially when I'm in a hurry!  And these types of concealer are perfect for the undereye area because it won't be as drying as compared to cream-type concealers.  Unfortunately, the shade is a tad bit light on me so instead of using this conceal my "undereye circles", I actually correct my undereye darkness with an orange based concealer first then apply this on top to highlight key areas!

Because I rely this heavily as a "highlighter", I also use this to apply on the bridge of my nose, my cupid's bow and my chin area!  This is the  best way to highlight key areas around your face in the most subtle way because this concealer is matte and oil-free!

Here are my thoughts on the Oil-Free Concealer ---
  • Gives light to medium coverage.
  • Can be layered for bettter coverage.
  • Can cover up undereye darkness (if you get the correct shade) and some redness.
  • Very lightweight and grease-free.
  • Oil-free.  Stays all day if set properly
  • If used as a highlighter, does help in brightening up my whole face in a very natural way.
  • Non-drying.  Does not settle in the lines around my eyes considering I have extremely dry skin.
  • Light consistency so this may not be enough if you need heavy coverage.
Last but not the least, the Ready Set Gorgeous Fresh Complexion Powder Foundation!

Housed in an "egg-shaped" slim and easy to hold packaging, it may look boring to some but I actually like it a lot!  The shade I got is a tad bit darker on me which is PERFECT to neutralize the light concealer and liquid foundation!

The shade is 205/210 (light/Medium) same as concealer but I was told by Jinkie that the powder foundation shade tends to be darker.  Imagine the concealer would lean more of the 205 Light side while the Powder Foundation leans more on the 210 Medium side!

I have used a lot of Cover Girl Powders and Powder Foundation in the past and I would say, they all deliver!  They may not be THE BEST in the market, but they deliver in terms of setting my makeup, keeping my skin staying fresh all day and of course, keep areas that tend to oil-up grease free!

And this one delivered plus more!  It gives a light to medium extra coverage!  Medium if you apply with patting motion and light if you sweep the sponge all over!  I prefer to use a big powder brush just to set everything in place and dab using a sponge on key areas that tend to oil up or where my makeup tends to slide off!

How do you find the Ready, Set Gorgeous line?
I love it but I just get confused with the numbers!  I wish they just maintained the shade names!
Oh well, nothing too huge but I'm happy with the price points for the quality you get!

Keep smilin'
Stay happy!

  2. Oh hey, the prices aren't bad at all considering Covergirl prices here are a little steep for a "drugstore" brand.

  3. I also thought that you're using light foundation shades. I'm in 220 and you're in 105! :) I love this line which I first heard from BDJ. The foundation is my go-to foundation. Feels light lang on my skin and is perfect for everyday use when I go to work :)

    1. Ay oo! weird no? But really, my shade is quite weird! people think I'm really fair, but because of the warm tone (a lot of yellow), I tend to go for darker shades
