Judging The Body Shop National Make-Up Competition 2018

You know you're doing something right in your career as a Make-Up Artist and Trainer if you are invited by a  prestigious make-up company such as The Body Shop to judge their National Make-Up Competition!  I knew it is something I would love to be part of because The Body Shop (as a brand) is very close to me because of the following reasons ---

  • They are the first International Brand who reached out to me when I was just starting out on Blogging end of 2007.
  • I love their makeup and skincare products and have been using them.
  • They are FOREVER Against Animal Testing!
The list could go on and on but let me tell you a bit of what happened during the day of the competition.

The event was held at Pound by Todd English, SM Megamall Branch.  It is a perfect venue for such competition because the space is just right for an intimate gathering.  Best of all, the place is "open" so ample amount of sunlight peeks through these wire-like walls!

Props to The Body Shop team and staffs for fixing the place so beautifully!  I arrived earlier than my call time so I've seen how everything was set up!  And this view, greeted me when I sat on my table.  I felt so honored!

I sat next to big names in the industry!  Jet Guison is a makeup artist and trainer,  Maui Rodriguez is Associate Social Media Editor of Preview.PH, Toni Alvarez is also a trainer and celebrity makeup artist.

Imagine, sitting next them?  I'm glad we get to chat and bond over food and drinks!

The competition started at 3pm with 30 minutes base makeup application!  I like it that I get a clear view of all 5 makeup looks and we were also allowed to stand close to the contestants and watch them do their magic.

The next 45 minutes were allotted for the rest of the makeup application.  I am impressed how these ladies were able to pull-off complicated looks in 45 minutes flat!

Each Contestants have Smudge Sheets right beside the table.  They were each assigned different looks for them to bring out their creativity, that explains why the look done by all 5 ladies were totally different from each other!

I like it that they were able to translate the "inspiration" from their imagination to the Smudge Sheets straight to the models' faces which I was told they just knew who their models were a couple of hours before the competition!  All of these ladies are working in their respective The Body Shop stores nationwide and I feel so proud and happy for the brand to give great opportunities as such to their employees! (Cheers The Body Shop Team!)

Here are the looks created by our Top 5!

Judging was indeed very difficult when you get talented ladies in front of you!  They were equally great, smart and talented with their crafts and I am so happy I get to see and experience it!

Congratulations to Ms. Ruby Pauco for topping this competition!

The Body Shop gave us all Certificate of Appreciation and in my heart, I knew I am more appreciative of them for inviting me to grace this event!  This is definitely one for the books in my career as a Makeup Artist and Trainer.  Thank you The Body Shop!

With Emily, Head of Marketing, The Body Shop Philippines and Ms. Toni (fellow Judge)
