Beatrilicious' Corner: The "Braid-y" Show

A follow up on my first post. Just previously, I shared with you beauties out there the "headband" trend. Now, you can try this one if you are more experimental with your looks – the braids!

Gracie
of Glitz & Glamour, you were asking on other alternatives since you can’t handle the headband, I think you can try braiding your hair instead! Lots of ways, and styles you can try on. One tip I learned is that braids will stay longer if you do not condition your hair, because the tendency is that it will easily slip from the grip.

The braid trend has been spotted on young hollywood’s tresses lately, which includes Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson just last Friday! (see pics below). The Oscars 2008 red carpet also showcased the braided up-do courtesy of Jessica Alba and Anne Hathaway. I’m a real sucker for chick flicks on the boob tube (a.k.a Gossip Girl and The Hills) so I always see Lauren Conrad in her braids for the longest time already. She has done many versions from the braided headband to the soft braids on the side.

I’m going to share with you a couple of pictures I have during my last two out-of-town trips, sporting the braid! Now, get some elastic bands and make yours!

Weekend Food Tripping at: Las Paellas Cafe

What is "Paella"?

Paella is a typical Valencian Rice dish from Spain. Paella is usually garnished with vegetables and meat or seafood. The three main ingredients are rice, saffron and olive oil.

Too technical? Well, worry no more, this is how my weekend food tripping went. Lovely Paella meal at Greenhills' Las Paellas Cafe!!!

Note: You have to order 30minutes advance as this really took such a long time to arrive....and it looks like this..who would get angry if it is this cute???? (well, to answer my own question, a Hungry person would....)

This is the famous Valenciana Paella worth Php450.00 (approx $10.00)

Wooohhooooo....this is good for upto 4 servings...yummmmeeeehhhh!
I'm allergic to seafood, but I pop on a pill just to EAT THIS! hahaha

The lovely seafood platter. Sooo worth it!!! Everything is just scrumptious! This is worth Php265.00 (approx $6.50)

The Baby Back Ribs for Php260.00 (approx $6.00)

This is on the house!!! The lovely staff from Las Paellas Cafe gave us a free piece of cake that was made of egg whites (sorry we forgot the name) :P

It was a great dinner, all the food are wonderful and yummy. And most of all ? AFFORDABLE
No complaints on their staffs, all are super friendly and wonderful.
Calls everyone Senor/senora/senorita --- CUTE!
Thanks for the wish everyone, I know I didn't have a good experience on my previous meal, but this one ROCKS!!!!
Sorry if I made you guys hungry, I can't help it! I have to share!

Wanna check out my previous "not so good" food tripping? Smile and click here

Lovely weekend everyone! *hugs* *group hugs*

Askmewhats Reviews: Paul & Joe Face Color Autumn 2007

Available at Paul & Joe Rustan's Makati for Php1,150.00 (approx USD27.00)

The first time yours truly tried on this limited edition face color is when I modeled for my friend's make-up class for the Modern 90's look. The first swipe she did on my cheeks, There's a big O forming from my mouth! I HAVE to get this! And I did!

Paul & Joe Says ---

An exquisite gradation, created by blending two different shades together, this face color brings out each individual's inherent natural color and contours.

Askmewhats Says and Shows ---

When swatched, this looks too orange-y and bright! But when you use a blush brush and swipe just once, you can see the sudden "flush" (nice kind) on your cheeks. For my photo below, I swiped 2-3times each cheek, just to show everyone how to color is! hahaha

Askmewhats Tips ---

  1. Take desired amount onto brush and pat it a bit on your hand first before brushing it on your face to create a softer more natural look.
  2. You can use the lighter portion as eyes highlighter and use the darker orange as eyeshadow (if you really plan on using orange e/s) --- triple purpose!
  3. If I find this at times too overpowering, I would put on a bit of loose powder before swiping the face color with a brush, and lightly swipe it on my cheeks for that really brightening effect :)
  4. Some people may find this too "orange", aside from my liking of mixing lipstick with a concealer (as seen here), I also mix my blushes, I mix a lighter peach toned blush or if you don't have a lighter blush, do the tip #3
Will I repurchase?
Yes! Different colors!

Some other P&J products you may enjoy
Paul & Joe Light Cream Foundation
Paul & Joe Eyebrow Pencils

How'd you like it? Do you think it looks too orange for you?

Your askmewhats,
Nikki

Beatrilicious' Corner: Spring/Summer 2008 hottest accessory: - The Headband!

Blame it on Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, headbands are back and they are so hot at the moment for Spring/Summer 2008. Check the paparazzi photos of hollywood celebs and you will see them wearing headbands. Even the high fashion designers are coming up with their own versions of headbands to catch up with this trend (just take a look at Blair’s headband in the Season Finale of Gossip Girl. She’s wearing a Jennifer Behr pink headband) Not only they are stylish, they are your best defense against bad hair days or when you feel just like being very girly or “kikay”. Good thing about headbands is that, anyone can wear them from young girls, teens, young professionals, moms, and the list goes on. There are lots of headbands to choose from, ranging from thick, thin, studded, with ribbons, flowers, garters. You can just raid your own cabinet and see if you have stocked old headbands from before! Voila, instant style! Here are some headband styles you can choose from (here are my personal headbands from my cabinet so I won’t have to spend a single centavo just to get in style haha!)

  • Sash Headbands – you can recycle the ribbons you get from your presents or buy one from a fabric store and you can instantly have a look that’s good to go! See Nicole Richie’s sash, similar to what Nikki used in her portfolio shoot (to check back, click here)

Beatrilicious' Version ---

  • Patent Headbands – whether you ironed out or curled your hair, it will suit any style. If the LBD (little black dress) is a must-have in a girl’s closet, one should also have a LBH (little black headband!) haha! But seriously, it can take you from day to night. A trusty headgear that won’t let you down.

Beatrilicious' Version ---

  • Printed headbandsFrom stripes to polka, printed headbands are cute to match your day outfit. Lots of colors to choose from. Select one the fits your personality or your mood for the day.

Beatrilicious' Version ---

  • Bow Headbands – very Blair Waldorf-ish! You can dig up your old headbands with ribbons in it. I am using my brown headband which my grandma passed me more than 10 years ago. Since the trend is back again, I’m always using it again.

Beatrilicious' Version ---

  • Garterized Headbands – best to use if you have a bad hair day. You can tie your hair and make an up-do then wear the garterized the headband to hide the baby hairs standing up. Good to use especially in the morning when you’re about to go to the gym or do your errands.

Beatrilicious' Version ---

  • Studded Headbands – this kind of headband you can use if you want to be a little bit glammed-up. Iron out your hair for a more casual look or make an up-do then put the headband in place for a more formal look. Take it from Lauren Conrad and Rachel Bilson.
