Askmewhats Reviews: VO5 Give Me Curls

Aside from skincare, make-up... Hair products are super important for me because I have been struggling for beautiful hair for the longest time!!! Way even before I had my first make-up!!! :)

I have been curling my hair for special occasion, the traditional way and the modern way (using heating tools).
In whatever way I do to curl my hair, I make sure to use a "curl booster" and of course a heat protecting product that would shield my hair from all the damages!!!

VO5 Give Me Curls!

VO5 Give Me Curls! says ---

Spring into styles with curls that can take the heat.
Creates strong curls that last all day, resists humidity for gravity-defying bounce. Protects hair from curling iron damage.

contains 5.1FL OZ Bottle
150ml

Askmewhats says ---

Pros

  • does hold the curl. Tested on my friends and clients.
  • non-sticky
  • not the "aerosol" can type, good for the environment
  • inexpensive: I bought this at the Duty Free Shop Philippines for less than $5.00 (approx Php250)
  • has heat protection!

  • because of it's "spray bottle" easier to evenly distribute it all over the hair

Cons
  • Scent is not sweet smelling but not bad at all, has a tiny bit of hairspray smell (this doesn't bother me)
  • Not sure if this is available everywhere as I've checked online, this has been discontinued in the US. So definitely limited stocks of these!
Overall

If you don't plan to do hair professionally, just wanted to practice mild curls on those special days! This is a great product as it's inexpensive and it does the job! But if you plan do be a hairstylist, you can purchase better heat protecting and curling sprays from other brands!

Tips
  • spray this on your hair before using a curling iron, comb it gently to make sure the product is evenly distributed to your hair
  • if you are in the US, I think they sell it way cheaper for $2.00 (approx Php100) or less a piece!
  • you can always reuse the bottle for something else (not for face products ok?)

Will I repurchase?

I may try out different brands, I doubt I will still go back to the Duty Free Shop just for this :)

Where can you purchase and how much?

Not sure if we have it locally, check out Watson's! :)

What are you using to boost those lovely "Goldi-locks"?
I may look into your suggestions after I finish this!
Have a great day everyone!

Askmewhats Reviews: Dollface Contour & Blush Palette

Hello people of the world! :)

Let's talk about contouring the face.

On normal days! I don't contour my face because I find this step "useless" (people who loves to contour, do not get angry at me for saying so! :P) as I am always in a hurry in the morning for work to contour my face and nose! But I haven't let go of the idea of owning a contour palette because it is actually a very important step to do if you're talking about make-up.

I am happy DollFace cosmetics included the Contour Palette! I've been eyeing this palette from Coastal Scents forever!

6pcs Contour &
Blush Palette

Dollface Contour & Blush Palette says ---

Ingredients:

Talc, Mica, Mineral Oil, Kaolin, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Lanolin, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, BHT.

May contain:
Mica and titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Ultramarine Blue, Manganese Violet, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide, Chrome Oxide Greens, Chrome Hydroxide Green, FD&C Red No.40 AlLake, FD&C Yellow No.5 Al Lake, FD&C blue No.1 Al Lake.

Askmewhats says ---

Pros
  • huge pan, same size as MAC powder. You get a lot of product
  • pigmented
  • travel friendly
  • perfect for make-up professionals
  • love the 2 blushes, the white shimmery powder as highlighter

Cons
  • not all the colors are useful (for people who plan to purchase this for themselves)
  • the dark Contour powder doesn't suit all skin tones to be a "contour" powder. I find the matte brown not pure brown but more on the reddish brown side which would look very obvious on my skin tone (this color works better for darker skin tone in contouring)
  • it'll be perfect if one blush color is on the pinkish tone and the other one on peachy tone :)
Overall

If you are planning to be a professional make-up artist, a contouring palette is a great addition to your collection. But if you plan to use a contour and highlighting powder to yourself, you can purchase one that matches your skin tone rather than the whole palette!

Tips
  • test on applying these powders using different brushes
  • apply the contouring powder first , before you highlight to blend in the harsh line
  • DO NOT drop the palette.... NEVER!
  • try to mix and match the colors to find your "matching" shade
Will I repurchase?

Not for now! This huge pan is enough to last me a lifetime!

Where can you purchase and how much?

At Dollface Cosmetics multiply for Php1,000 (approx $20.80)

Nos. 1 & 2 used as highlighter
Nos. 4 & 5 are contouring powders

Nos. 3 & 6 are blushers

I've said it before and I'll say it again!
Contouring makes a huge difference especially on photos!
So make sure to practice contouring and blend them well!
We don't want streaks on our faces right?

Nail Art Tutorial: "Teenage" Nails

Happy Start of the week everyone!
Yes, it's Monday! But nothing's going to ruin my day because today after work will be my first day for makeup class! I am super excited!

Over the weekend, I had a wonderful time spending it with both moms and thanks so much for the greetings for my moms! :) How's your Mother's Day Celebration?

I've had my nails cleaned and with the color used as a base coat, I got inspired to do a nail art tutorial for my "teenage" readers like ME! (hahahahaha)

When I was in College, I love experimenting with polish colors and I don't care even if all my 10 fingernails consists of 10 different shades of polish! Because at that time, I am YOUNG, I have the right to be creative!!!

Now that I'm older, my only excuse for doing such "teeny boppy" nails is... Well, I am doing this for my readers *winks* It's a wonderful request because I missed being young and preppy! :)

Here's my version of a
Teenage Nails

Of course not all teenagers would love to have bright and bold colored nails like this, but this is just an inspiration I thought about being young! :)

Read on for the steps :) You can always reduce some step or change the colors! I'm sure you gals can do better :)

Step 1:

Apply 2 coats of any bright colored polish you prefer as a base color. Make sure to let dry completely.

Step 2:

Again, making sure the base color is completely dry, apply a slant curve of white polish like photo below.

Step 3:

Using a thin brush or Art Deco LA Colors Black polish, create a black border, creating a 2nd line as well as seen on photo below.

Step 4:

Apply another polish color between the 2 black lines. I've used RED Art Deco LA Colors Polish

Step 5:

You can stop on Step 4, I've decided to create another line with Art Deco's White LA Deco Polish. Gosh, I can go on and on and on with colors :D

Step 6:

CREATE DOTS

To fill in the blank white space, I've used a bright red polish color from ELF and put 2 drops on any flat surface (In my case, I am using a CD that's not useful anymore).

Using a nail dotting tool,
dip the tool on the red polish

Slowly dot on top of the white polish area
Create as many dots as you like

Step 7:
(OPTIONAL --- FOR THE THUMB)

Using a white 2 nail art pen, apply 5 dots to create flower, you can add smaller dots for "shooting flower" effect

Use my favorite
needle method

Use a different polish color
for the flower bud

Step 8: (Optional)

Apply a glittery polish on top of the nail art and rhinestones (to seal in the rhinestones)

Step 9: (Optional)

Apply rhinestones

Step 10:

The most important step, apply a top coat to protect all your hard work :)

Here's my version of a
"Teenage Nails"
ahhh, brings me back to old days :)

Have a wonderful week ahead everyone!
Let's not be scared to tap the "childlike" ways in us!
The saying is true...
Feeling young can make us look young :)

Weekend Food Tripping at: Cyma + Happy Mother's Day!!!

I want to wish all mommies Happy Mother's Day!!!

I am wishing 2 of the best moms in the world. My Mother-in-law and my Mommy.

My MIL is such a wonderful and cool MIL that I've never encountered the "In-laws" problem since I got married! I want to thank her for accepting me wholeheartedly to the family!

My mommy is my best friend. We've never been close when I was growing up and I don't understand why she's such a strict mom! But as I grow older, I've come to realize that a big part of who I am is because of my mom! With her endless love and support for me and my siblings, we've all grown up to say "I love you and I miss you" without feeling any shame! She made me who I am now!

Because it's Mother's Day, I will be off for another busy weekend food tripping for both my Hubby's mom and my mom! 2 separate events so more weekend food posts coming!!!

-------------------------------------------

For now, I will be talking about a restaurant I've had over the weekend a couple of weeks ago with my date! The hubby! LOL

I come to realize though... when I talk about food, I do give out a huge "crazy-looking" grin that I can't stop! lol That's how much I love food and based on the comments from my dear friends when I do food tripping, I want to *high five* each and everyone of you for sharing the same passion with me when it comes to beauty, skincare and FOOD!!!

I've had a wonderful time in a restaurant that's always jampacked! Yes, I have to leave them my mobile phone number for them to message me if our table is available!!! Thanks to my colleague Pam for introducing me to this restaurant and the hubby and I had to revisit!!!

PROTOS CYMA GREEK TAVERNA
at L6 Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Family Style Greek Salad
Php330.00 (approx $6.75)

With mixed greens, red cabbage, tomatoes, capers, cucumber, Feta cheese, pine nuts, bow-tie pasta and black olives, served with your choice of Cyma's Summer Herb or Traditional Greek Vinaigrette. I love how different this taste from regular salad I've always tried in restaurants. The hubby loves it, I love it!

Pork Souvlaki
Php330.00 (approx $6.75)

Skewered with fresh vegetables
and a sour cream dip!!!
HEAVENLY!

You'd think it wasn't a lot but we are super full!!! The servings are both in SOLO but it's really perfect for 2 to share!!! Will definitely go back!

---------------------------------------------------

Before I end this post, I want to share something I am excited about for the coming week! I will be studying again!!! Yes, I have enrolled at Basement Academy to study Beauty Makeup Course! I want to learn further and expand my knowledge in make-up!

I've seen their course coverage, and I have met their staffs and I am very impressed with the school surroundings and the helpfulness of the staffs. It will be an intensive 2 weeks course from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Yes, I will be a vampire for the next 2 weeks! But don't worry, I'll definitely share what I've learn here!

I will also be classmate with a dear blogger friend KIM *waves* It'll be an adventure!!!

Stay Happy! :)
