Askmewhats Reviews: MAC Renewal Defense Charged Water

I could never imagine myself buying "expensive" water. As what I call Evian mists and everything more expensive than that LOL Not until I watched Youtube videos and read beauty blogs. Everyone's been raving about the MAC Fix+ and the MAC Charged Water. I've done a lot of research (and trust me, I am a researcher by profession hahaha) and I finally gave in. A spray that seals in moisture? I am game!!!!

MAC Charged water are available in different variants
I chose the Peach Colored one because of it's Anti-oxidant factor.
And of course, a lot of people chose this over the others :D

MAC Charged Water Says ---

"Charged water, fused with vital ions from rhodochrosite to create a powerfully protective hydrating mist to help defend the skin from environmental aggression. Packed with anti-oxidants, its peach-toned hue is imparted by the rhodochrosite itself. Its aroma, is a gentle blend of grapefruit mandarin.”

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Polysorbate 80, Rhodochrosite, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Sulfate, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Phosphate, Salycylic Acid, Fragrance, Linalool, Citral, Limonene, Phenoxyethanol

Askmewhats Says ---

Pros
  • has a "recharged" feeling because of the scent
  • hydrates my skin (not as moisturizer) but after foundation application, there are some areas that gets flaky, and I spray with MAC Charged water and it's gone :)
  • energizes me on those lazy morning! lol
  • packaging is really nice, I like the lock feature of this by turning left
Cons
  • you don't see immediate results <--- if you're expecting for one
  • if sprayed too much, can cause stickiness

Overall

MAC Charged Water is one product I cannot give super good or super bad reviews. Because it is something that you can live without but something NICE to live with :) Am I confusing you ? hahaha I'd say, most hydrating sprays gets the job done energizing you because..hey! Imagine you spray water on your face??? But what I like about MAC Charged Water that cannot be dupe is their scent, the way it really can seal in the moisture because even with MMU foundation, I don't see as much flakiness as I have in the past :)

It does sets the make-up well and creates a dewy look.

Tips

  • close eyes and spray a couple of inches away from your face
  • I prefer to spray on this before moisturizing my face, spray a bit after to seal in the moisture
  • after MMU foundation application, spray this on my kabuki brush and lightly buff it on the face
  • or spray this directly on your face to set the make-up
  • to save up, some people use Evian Brumisateur to set their make-up as it's cheaper compared to MAC or Bench Pure Mist (check my post about this here)
Will I repurchase?

Depends, after I finish this up, I will use my MAC Fix+ and see which one I prefer

Where did I purchase and how much?

I bought this at MAC HK for less than Php1,000 (approx $20.00). This is also available at Local MAC Stores here in the Philippines.

Are you into "expensive waters"? lol
if not, I have a couple of cheaper alternatives to test on!
(there's Watson's, Bench Pure Mist, Evian...)
But I have only one face so give me some time,
I will definite revisit this product as soon as I finish this up!
Have a nice day ahead!
Energize people you meet by smiling at them!

  1. I never saw any worthy impact made by any sort of spray water for my skin, so I stopped buying them! I tried MAC Fix+ and it broke me out. :/

  2. Though a lot of people have been raving about it, I'm still not convinced. :-( I don't know why. Perhaps I'm a very cynical consumer.

  5. I've never tried MAC's sprays because I have the same mindset about paying for what seems like scented water :P Then again, I do use Clarins' alcohol free toner for the purpose of setting my makeup and its probably just as expensive :)

  6. I know what you mean when you said, it's one of those things you can live without but it would be nice to have. I tried MAC fix+...it feels nice although it doesn't have that long lasting affect.

Can't wait for your reviews on the other cheap alternatives!

  7. i've been using this for a while now. like many others i thought that it would be ridiculous to pay for "special water" to spray on your face. but i saw this at a cco & figured why not? i still have quite a bit left. i got it because i started using mineral make up again & i like how it sets it right after. it also does calm my skin down when it feels very irritated.
you know what works well too? cold water. get a spray bottle, stick it in the fridge & spray your face. works pretty much the same way. but because of i guess the scent it does wake your face up more & it sticks better if that makes sense haha but water works fine :P

  9. i thought about buying charged water a long time ago, but i never got a chance to test it out... except for once... and i didn't see a difference so i was skeptical about buying it... i don't know if i want to fork out money to try a product that i don't know if i will like...

  10. lol yes you only have one face, and it must be taken care of! but im glad that you do these experiements for the sake of reviews and to increase our knowledge for the item in question! :)

I just use Avene Thermal Water. $20 CND for a 300ml spray can, but I really love it. Even though its just 'water' :P

and thanks for the comment on the glasses thing! it made me feel a bit better reading your comment~

  12. this is an essential item in my makeup kit...when someone has bad skin sometimes i have to load the foundation and powder on...when i spray this on them, it makes them look not cakey and more dewy as if they're waying nothing at all :)

  15. i loved MAC Fix+ but i loved Evian better and i think i am sticking with that. i actually thought of trying Charged Waters but since i love Evian now, maybe not in the near future lol. great review though! :-) btw, where do you get Bench Mists again? seems every branch i look for them they're not available. :-( where did you get Evian too? i got mine at SG and i dunno if it's available locally.

  16. I heard about this quite some time ago, but never thought to get it because I just didn't know what to do with it. If it's anything like the Evian or Avene facial mists, then I think I'll stick to the cheap alternatives :p
