Nail Art Tutorial: DC Superheroes

Hi! Happy Saturday!!!  I finally found the time to fix my Nail Art Tutorial Photos!  Since my last "The Avengers" Nails, Mr. AMW requested I continue the Superhero-inspired nail art!  As we looked at our tiny collection, I saw a very cute mug that I bought for Mr. AMW from a Bazaar at the World Trade Center.

DC Superheros in Chibi form :)

As I applied a good base coat to protect my nails (from Zoya), I looked for a nice color for the faces of the characters, since I can't find one, I've decided to mix GirlStuff Nail Polish in Machiatto and Caronia Regular Polish in White Satin.

Apply one coat of the mixture on top of your preferred base coat.  One coat is enough as I don't want the face to look too pink.  Let dry.

For Aqua Man

Step 1:
Using L.A. Colors Art Deco in Yellow, draw an outline of Aqua Man's hair and fill the color in.

Step 2:
If you are trying to draw a character, it is vital to draw a black outline for the features to pop, with L.A. Colors Art Deco in Black, outline Aqua Man's yellow hair.  Make it as thin as possible.

Step 3:
With a nail dotting tool or a nail art pen if you have one, draw the eyes and nose.

For Robin

Step 1:
With L.A. Art Deco Pen in Black, draw Robin's hair. It doesn't have to be super perfect, hair does get messy! :P

Step 2:
With a nail art pen or any art brush, draw Robin's mask. Don't forget the tiny nose!

Step 3:
Once the black mask is completely dry, use a white nail art pen and apply white dots for the eyes.

For Batman

Step 1:
Ah, Batman is a bit challenging for me to do!  I actually erased the first drawing as the blue polish I used was a bit too dark that turned almost black!

With L.A. Art Deco in Blue, I drew a shape of Batman's mask.  The 2 sharp ears are dead giveaway! :)

Step 2:
Outline his mask with a black L.A. Art Deco Pen.  Or if you have steady hands, you can use a Nail Art Pen in black to draw the outline!  I realized my left hand is a bit weak so I can't squeeze out the "right amount" of black polish through a pen!

Step 3:
Draw the eyes using white polish and draw his mouth!  The mouth is optional!  Since my nails are a bit long, making half of Batman's face bare, I've decided to give him a "smirk" instead! :)

For Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is my favorite among the bunch, well, aside from being the only girl, don't you love her cute body shape?  Costume?  Earrings and "an eyelash" on each eye?  hahahaha  She truly embodies what women of today should be --- Strong, Fierce yet Sexy and Beautiful! :D

Step 1:
I've decided to use L.A. Art Deco in Black to draw her hair.  I find myself having more control using a brush than the nail art pen.  Draw an inverted V shape.

Step 2:
Draw the crown of Wonder Woman with a yellow L.A. Art Deco polish.

Step 3:
Draw a straight black line just below the yellow crown.

Step 4:
With a bigger nail art dotting tool, draw her eyes and use a tinier dotting tool to create her lashes.

Step 5:
Once the yellow crown is completely dry, draw a red star to finish off the Wonder Woman look!

For Superman

Step 1:
The hair of Superman is very important!  Take your time in drawing his hair with any tool you're most comfortable with.  I guess L.A. Art Deco polishes are very important for me as I have more control of it than any other tool!  Again, it's a matter of preference.

Step 2:
Draw his eyes and mouth with a black polish using a nail art dotting tool.  Oh, some people can do nail art with just a dotting tool! :)

Step 3:
Using the same shade as their face, apply a tinier dot on top of the black for a "button" nose effect.

Once the nail art is completely dry, apply your choice of top coat!  In this tutorial, I've used the top coat from The Face Shop and top it again with Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

Voila!  I have 5 Super Heroes to protect me! :D

Who among the 5 characters is your favorite?

  5. Wonder Woman is my favorite too! It's a nice surprise to see focus on the superhero's faces, as the expected route would be to use their insignia (the 'S' on superman's chest, the bat signal for batman, the invisible jet for Wonder woman.. Lol) but using their cute chibi faces gave your nails a common theme and they are also recognizable.
Your avengers nail art and this post have finally pushed me to start growing & painting my nails again, in the hopes of someday (my birthday! Or Halloween!) being able to follow your amazing tutorial and show the cute nail art off to my friends. I'll start practicing first with your simpler gradient nail stuff from 2010 and earlier, haha. Thanks for your very punctual and consistent posts, AMW. I always look forward to reading them!

    1. Thank you so much! Your comment made me smile! Well, I originally wanted to draw their "insignia" BUT, as I looked up at our "mini collection", I am really inspired with the cuteness of the CHIBI faces of these DC characters :) I am so afraid to do it, it took me quite a while to muster the courage as I'm so afraid I won't be able to give them justice, to be honest, the nail version is FAR from the cute chibi faces on mug..but oh well? Nothing to do! that's the best I can do! :) heheheh

Goodluck with your nail art :)
