Weekend Food Trip at: Boon Tong Kee, SM Mall of Asia

Boon Tong Kee, just the name of the restaurant automatically transported me to my Singapore trip a couple of years ago!

Singapore is known for their Hainanese chicken but would you believe I'm not a fan of it?  *hahaha  So please don't judge me if you don't see a Hainanese chicken post here!  I guess I grew up in a family where we "almost" always have Hainanese chicken on the table (whole one) whenever we have special gatherings!  So I'm not being snob, I'm just maximizing what I don't get to eat when I was younger  *laughs*

Located at SM Mall of Asia (there are several branches opened), we were hungry after Kyle's school so we went for what's fast and available.

Roast Pork Rice Topping
A great dish!  I would go back to order this crunchy Roast Pork (similar to Pork Liempo).

Charsiu Rice
Honey glazed pork but found mostly fats which are okay to some but not to us!  I wish they serve this with more sauce and flavor!

Wanton Mee
Php155.00
As much as I love the flavor of the noodles and the size of the Charsiu and Wanton, this is really tasty for someone craving for hot noodle soup but the oil coming from the noodles after midway of eating could be an issue for someone who doesn't like too much oil in their food!  Definitely a dish worth sharing (share the calories guys!) .

Overall, the experience wasn't something spectacular but it wasn't a bad dining experience as well!  I may give this restaurant a second chance by ordering their specials but so far, nothing is pulling me in this restaurant for now.

Any other food recommendations for Boon Tong Kee?

  1. No worries about not loving chicken rice, some people can't stand the smell of the chicken fat in the rice and the pandan used! I totally get it. My favorite items from BTK in Singapore is their fried tofu that has a panko outside that's crispy but it's so soft inside served with mayo. I also love their stir fried vegetable dishes although they aren't very worth it compared to ordering it in our hawker centers. The thing is in Singapore most people to to BTK to share the chicken rice and then we order side dishes so I haven't tried any other noodle or rice dishes from them although I know their hot plate tofu is good too!
