AprilSkin Magic Snow Cushion Review

When I got my own Althea Glittery Black Box before the year ends, I did a bit of unboxing on #AMWIgStories and one of the most requested review from you guys is the AprilSkin Black Magic Snow Cushion 2.0.

Yes, this is version 2.0 because the original version which I've seen online comes with a white puff and reviews told me this one has better coverage and better oil-control.

Without much expectation, I roadtested the AprilSkin Magic Snow Cushion 2.0 over the Holidays and is still using this to date!

Housed in a black matte compact, this is a bit bulky, similarly sized as most BB Cushion compacts (Laneige is the closest one).

Product Description in Korean.

I got the shade 23 which is a perfect match for me!
This product comes with SPF50+ so expect a bit of white cast especially on flash photography.

Just like any other BB Cushion compact, it has a velvet puff, a cover between the puff and the cushion,

and a protective sticker to ensure product freshness.  Most of the time, I don't throw this white sticker away and try to return it after every use to prevent product from drying out fast.

I can immediate spot the difference between the AprilSkin Magic Snow Cushion vs. other cushions in the market.  The Black Velvet Sponge is so soft and smooth and almost fluffy to feel.  Based from research, what makes this different from the others is that the fact that this is "Double Cushion" sponge, meaning, you get a "bouncier" feel on every application.  That said, the product absorbs more product too, which can be good or bad, good because you transfer more product from sponge to your skin (better coverage), bad because you get to finish up the product faster than usual.

After using this for weeks, I've noticed that the product absorption of this sponge is amazing, I get enough product every single press and it gets transferred on to my skin in a very smooth and seamless application.

Now let's head on to the cushion itself, can I just say --- I AM SO IN LOVE with this cushion packaging and I wish all BB Cushion would follow this type of sponge?

The sponge is almost dome shape and is very dense (Mochi Cushion format)!  On a single press (without much pressure) you get this amount of product seeping through the sponge!

That said, I felt the company loaded the sponge with A LOT of product PLUS, the sponge holds the product quite well!

Swatch: No. 23 Natural Beige
also available in No. 21 Light Beige, No. 22 Pink Beige

This product is said to work for all skin types!  It can hold moisture to keep dry skin hydrated all throughout the day, while it is also tough enough to control oil for the oily skinned users.

As for application, I prefer to apply a small amount with a gentle patting motion concentrating more on areas that needed the most coverage.

Since I llike light nag natural coverage, I like to apply just a layer all over face and set with translucent powder or powder foundation.

AMW says ---

  • Great packaging even if it's bulky.
  • Love the mochi cushion and the velvet puff that works pretty well.
  • Coverage is really good.  A little goes a long way.
  • Lack of shade variety, no. 23 is still a bit light for most Filipinas.
  • Can cover redness, pimple marks and even undereye circles.
  • The cushion finishes off with a matte, powdery finish, so if you have very dry skin like I do, prep the skin with a good moisturizer to keep skin from drying out.
  • Oily skinned users may still use an oil-control primer as I find this product to be a bit hydrating still.
  • Best to be set with powder darker than your original skin tone to prevent white cast.
  • Long-wearing.  Transfer-proof.
Overall, I am impressed with the AprilSkin Magic Snow Cushion!  I just wish they can come up with better shade selection.  There are many fakes out there so be careful when you purchase from sellers whom you don't know.

I got my AprilSkin together in my Black Box from http://ph.althea.kr, these are not available as of the moment but do check out their website once in awhile for availability.

Have you seen AprilSkin online?

Do you like the coverage it gave for my skin?
