Manila's Signature Dishes 2010: Pizza Hut Bistro

The first time I've dined at Pizza Hut Bistro, we got attracted to the said restaurant that was newly opened at Robinson's Galleria several years ago.  I think what attracted us is the "Fine Dining" feel who serves pizza!  I can't seem to remember the exact dishes we ordered but I can still remember how impressed we are in trying out unique pastas in a restaurant with the name "Pizza Hut" attached to it, as we all know, we've always thought pizzas are their only specialty!

Recently, I chanced upon a very unique commercial from Pizza Hut!  Unique in the sense of the pizza flavor they offer!  Lechon Pizza!  Who in the world would have thought that?

I vaguely remember Mr. AMW saying "Try natin!" ("Let's give it a try!").  I usually go "yuck" with anything Lechon but because the husband has always been supportive of my blogging escapades!  I told him: "Why not?"  And silently hoping he'll forget about it!  Sounds unhealthy right?

Would you imagine what fate has done to have brought us to Pizza Hut Bistro to actually try the Lechon Pizza as it is actually part of Manila's Signature Dishes 2010 Campaign made possible by Unilever Food Solutions!  And the "birds started to sing" for the husband!  *laughs*

Olive Garden Salad
Freshly picked lettuce, roasted bell peppers, olives, cucumber
and herbed croutons, with silky Italian dressing
The Italian dressing, or according to my taste buds, in a more specific term known as vinaigrette!  The lettuces are obviously very fresh and crunchy to taste!  I am not a fan of cucumbers but the texture of all the vegetables included is just right!  Crunchy croutons, cucumber and bell peppers are perfectly drizzled with the right amount of dressing!

The extra fresh peppers made this appetizer even better!
The appetizer served in this set is actually a wonderful combination because it does not bring a "full feeling" on the stomach.  It's actually refreshing to taste and it gives you the good feeling of eating something healthy prior to something devilish!  *teehee*

Seafood Supremo Pasta
I've always thought there's no way to cook pasta differently until I've tasted the Seafood Supremo Pasta!  It was the most flavorful pasta I've tasted in my entire life to date!

The secret? Fettuccine served al dente mixed with creamy tomato sauce, with generous servings of shrimps, squid and scallops topped with capers and basil!  The secret of it being flavorful?  After cooking the pasta, it was baked in parchment paper to seal in all seafood flavors! Smart!

Lechon Pizza
Pizza Hut's classic rust smothered with layers of traditional lechon sauce, premium lechon meat, mozzarella cheese, and garlic roasted to sweetness.  A generous portion of that crispy lechon skin is neatly arranged on top for a truly appetizing gourmet meal.

According to Edgar, the General Manager of Pizza Hut, "We surveyed people within Metro Manila for an 'a-ha' food moment for Christmas at Pizza Hut and the results came out with something very Filipino --- Lechon!" Indeed, it was a very effective survey because you see a lot of customers trying this out and find this pizza quite intriguing!  Cholesterol-infested meal, YES, but that's the reason why Pizza Hut launched this for the Christmas Season because it's the season to be jolly!  The season to forget about diet!  *I agree!*

I, who originally thought I will just take one bite and leave the rest of the food tasting to the husband, actually took more than 1 bite!  It's surprisingly good and not drizzled with oil at all!  The medium-crust (in between thin crust and thick crust) is just right to house the Lechon meat!  A hint of Lechon sauce works perfectly with cheese!  They actually serve a separate sauce for you to dip in more "Lechon sauce" but I prefer to have mine the way it was originally served!  The crunchy Lechon Skin actually retained its crunchiness even after minutes of exposure!

The whole set costs Php799.00 (approx $18.58), good for 2 or even 3 people!  I suggest trying this as fast as you can as the set won't be available long!

Pizza Hut Bistro has this really nice feel of fine dining and yet you don't feel intimidated at all!  Prices are quite affordable and you get to try different flavorful dishes most regular Pizza Hut Restaurants do not serve!

A Love Story about Fragrances

Remember how excited I got when I own 2 of the cutest fragrance bottle around?  I was obviously excited because I've created a love story between the 2 of them.  You can smile and click HERE for the past post.

The 2 DKNY fragrances may look similar on bottle design, but their scent is as opposite as night and day!  The DKNY Fresh Blossom (Pink) has this fresh, feminine scentwith a blend of grapefruit which spells sophistication, perfect for the day! DKNY Delicious Candy Apples Limited Edition Sweet Caramel (Green) on the other hand smells sweeter because of its creamy caramel and vanilla scent which works well especially at night!

Here they are enjoying each other's company for 6 months now!  I like using them alternately depending on what outfit I wear or which occasion I will be attending.

After 6 months, their relationship moved up to a new level

Someone, I mean...something..came up!!!

It was a labor of love!  Oh my goodness, what am I even thinking?  *lol*  Oh well, I just want to share to the world that I am a proud owner of DKNY Limited Edition Mini Eau de Parfum Be Delicious

Though I am in love with the lovely bottles of the mommy and daddy, I appreciate it when fragrance companies give options to their consumers!  I am actually toting this mini bottle along with me all day for that instant "spritzing" before I attend an important meeting or event!  I can assure to the world that I am spreading wonderful scent wherever I go!  And best of all?  I can do this discreetly because the bottle is just right enough to be hidden inside my hand!  Now it's easy for me to say: "I was born to smell this way!" *harharhar*

Anyways, sad to say, this tiny bottle is not available for sale, I do believe I've seen a couple of limited edition miniatures inside Duty Free Shops though!  So keep your eyes open for cute stuffs like these!

Thanks to Estee Lauder Philippines for gifting me with this several months before Christmas!  This can seriously put a permanent smile on my face everytime I pull this out inside my bag!

What's your favorite fragrance you wish to have a miniature version?

Tip for the Day: Make-up for The Man!

"Should a guy even wear make-up?"

On regular days, of course not!  That's my take though, there are some men out there who wear concealer on a daily basis and I am referring to real men!  That's not an issue though, if that's what they're comfortable with, let's respect that right?

My guy never lets me touch his face with make-up though!  "Darn!" *hahaha*

Men, are getting vain as the years pass by!  Just take a look at your beauty supply stores, so many skincare for Men and hair products made specifically for Men!!!  I agree that everyone should take care of their looks no matter what gender they may be!

Over the weekend, I had the honor to do make-up for "Accenture Sessionistas", a music band formed by colleagues with the same interest for music!  The venue is at the huge Araneta Coliseum and there were approximately 8,000 guests!  Huge, huge crowd!  I was asked to do make-up for the guys and I am actually glad these guys are game to have their make-up done and they were actually comfortable with it!  They're all used to having stage makeups!

Here are some samples of my work and I'll share to you some tips on Male Make Up!

Man # 1 (Band Member)
Skin condition: Oily
Skin woes: redness
Target: Lessen oiliness and even out his skin tone

Man #2 (Band Member)
Skin condition: Combination of Normal and Oily on T-zone
Skin woes:eyebags, pale skin
Target: Maintain normal skin condition, lessen eye bags
and give him a healthy glow

Man # 3 (Band Member)
Skin condition: Oily to Very Oily
Skin woes:Marks on Skin, Oiliness all over and redness
Target: Even out skin tone, try to cover up scars and redness
and lessen oiliness of skin

Man #4 (Band Member)
Skin condition: Normal
Skin woes:Tiny marks on skin, under eye circles
Target: Give a nice healthy color, lessen red marks on skin
and try to cover up his under eye circles

Man #5 (Emcee/Host for the night)
Skin condition: Combination, dry and oily
Skin woes:Pigmentation on his left cheek, pale skin
Target: Cover up skin pigmentation, give him a 3 dimensional look

Things to be reminded when doing makeup for men:
 Foundation
  • Choose an oil-free foundation
  • If client has very oily skin, you can skip liquid foundation, use powder foundation instead
  • Choose a foundation shade 1-2 shades darker than their skin tone.
  • You can focus to apply foundation only on areas where coverage is needed.
  • Set with a translucent powder and do not use any shimmer!
Concealer
  • Apply concealer under the eye circles and other places as needed.
  • Correcting may be done!  Orange for under eye darkness, Green for redness, Purple for sallowness, etc...
Eyebrow Pencil/Eyeliner/Mascara
  • Brush brows in place and use a brow gel if necessary.
  • Always ask the client if they are comfortable in trimming their eyebrows.  Some men are not comfortable having their brows touched!
  • If mascara is needed or required, choose a brown mascara instead.  One coat is enough.
  • Eyeliner: Choose matte brown eyeliner and apply with a "dotting" motion for that 'not so obvious' line!
  • You can apply concealer or eyelid base to even out the darkness of the lids.  No need to apply eyeshadow!
Contour and Highlight Powder
  • Use a matte contouring powder to give a nice dimension!
  • Contour the nose if needed.
  • I like using a matte highlighting powder to be applied under the eye area for that clean, awaked look
Lipbalm/Lipstick
  • Check with client if they are comfortable with lipsticks, if they are, choose a lipstick shade closest to his lip color.
  • Apply with a dabbing motion, no need to use a lipbrush.
  • If client is not comfortable with lipsticks, use a tinted lipbalm instead.
  • If client's lip color is pigmented enough, dab a clear lip balm instead to keep lips moisturized!
Important Note:
  • Mustaches and Beards shouldn't be applied with foundation!  If client has a lot of facial hair, use a stippling brush and 'stipple' on powder foundation instead for the clean look!
  • For photography: dust a bronzing powder all over face in a very light-hand motion for that healthy, suntanned look!
  • Always explain to clients why you should apply a bit more make-up especially when they have to be under harsh lighting!
These tips are not for everybody, but when you get to be in a situation wherein you have to do make-up for guys, you get to have some idea!  Always reassure them that they don't lose their masculinity just because they wear make-up, it's art, and it's for their own good!  They look great in photographs and videos!  *winks*

Have you done make-up for men?
How's your experience?

Keep smilin'
Stay happy!
(P.S. thanks to the wonderful guys on photos for being such a sport!)
