My favorite magazines

Aside from make-up, I have been collecting magazines as long as I remember. I started young. I was in highschool then when I had my first magazine collection -- YM, Seventeen International version. Trust me, I would really save up my money for those magazines. I guess that's how I learned make-up and fashion at an early age. I guess that is why I always have a say or two when a beauty related problem spurts out as I have my fair share of fashion and beauty education through magazines!

I am happy that the Philippines have their own franchise of the magazines that we can only find internationally in the past. No offense, I love international magazines but I hate it if I've seen such wonderful advertisements but I can't seem to find the products as most of them are not available here. (same with blog reading..sigh)

Let me share to you some magazines I've been loyal to for the past years! When I say loyal, I subscribe, and others, I purchase them monthly!

Here are the magazines I swore on to....

1. Girlfriend Magazine Philippines

This magazine, I bought since their first issue. I have won 2x Letter of the Month here! That's how much I loved this magazine that I really take time to write to them and give out my 2 cents and of course, letting them know how much I appreciate them. This magazine is so easy to reach, down-to-earth and I've met some of their staffs and they are really nice . The mag's straight to the point, easy to understand the message they're trying to send out to readers like us. And what's my favorite about them? The fact that they showcase beauty products and gives you the choice to choose based on your budget. They really feels like Girlfriends to me!

2. Marie Claire

You want best of both fashion and beauty world? Marie Claire is definitely the answer. MC is everything rolled into one! I love their versatility, I get to know high end apparel, bags, shoes but I also love that they showcase local products that are our pride as well. They also have their monthly featured articles which would either be about other cultures or other happenings across the globe. I love MC because they are very versatile!

3. Seventeen Magazine

A "teeny-bobby" publication at first glance, but looks definitely can be deceiving. Seventeen mag is quite small compared to the rest of my collection but the content aren't superficial at all. I love the way they showcase different styles on make-up using great photographers who can capture such different looks. I can't help but stare at the photos and learn a thing or two on make-up do's and don'ts myself. They also feature great hairstyle articles which showcase 7 days of easy hairstyles you can enjoy whether you are a student or a career woman like I am! And did I say that it is SUPER HANDY? (I did, just repeating myself lol)

Of course, there are some international magazines that I love as well. But I have to be honest, the cheapo in me would buy them several months after at the Booksale! I have my own reasons though. With international magazines, i don't have to buy them right on time as the "new" products launced won't be available here in the Philipines like several months after! That means, I don't have access to a lot of newly launched collection, so no point in learning about it early on! lol

Why do I buy Allure mags? I like to check out the best make-up, I want to be "in the loop" on products even though they're not available here! I love their make-up shots and they inspire me to create looks on my friends or myself! :)

You know what? I told myself a girl don't need to read all those magazines,
but I just can't help it! They make it so interesting, the front page so glossy...
models ...so beautiful...
these magazines are like "FEMALE PLAYBOY MAGAZINE" for me..
always calling for my name! lol
Do I need to go to rehab?
or am I just normal?

  2. hehehe...it's normal nikki! i buy a lot of magazines too, sometimes i'd be surprised to see that i have a few left unread. each time i'd visit 7-11, i go straight to their magazine stand and will sometimes leave the store with 2-3 mags in tote. i'm guilty though..i hardly read them, i just browse thru the pages and look for any makeup reviews. LOL but now that i'm always looking for something to pass my time, i get to read them na :)

  9. I stopped buying magazine a long time ago. It does give out lots of tips and sometimes interesting as well but I just didn't want to spend that kind of money, maybe I will later on.

  10. Nikki, you and I not only share a makeup obsession then! I looove magazines.. It got so bad at one point i was buying about 15 a month, that my Mom banned me to 2 a month! In highschool I think I had over a thousand magazines, but now my addiction has claimed down haha. I have given all my old mags to my local hairdressers for her customers to read now :P

  13. I love beauty and fashion magazines too! I love Vogue and Elle for Designer fashion, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, In Style, New Woman (but for some reasons, they seem to stop publishing... I'm gutted as I've been buying it since first issue. They always had something for the season every month about make up and fashion) and others when I fancy the contents for both fashion and beauty tips. I also buy The Home Magazine for Modern Living for home decorations and somtimes, The Real Food magazines (I love to cook as well ;)... and every now and then, I'd buy Hello and OK magazines for latest fashion, beauty and celebrity gozzips ha ha ha! I'm just another girl ;)

  14. I used to be addcited to buying magazines, but now I only buy Vanity Fair. Sometimes Italian mag called Amica because it has some makeup samples. This month's issue had a gorgeous mini Lancome lipstick.
But I think mags are a great source for makeup and fashion tips.

  19. nostalgia!
when I was in HS, it was a given that Mom would buy me an issue of Candy Magazine going back from Davao. Early college, when my allowance permits it, I'd buy an issue of Seventeen. I used to be so obsessed about these mags. :)

  21. Hehehe, you're talking to a magazine junkie here. I LOVE fashion mags, tech mags and foodie mags. When I was in the UK, there were so many magazines available which I couldn't get in Malaysia, and I went overboard on mags the three years I was there. The amount I spent, and I kid you not, was AT LEAST one return Europe trip. Yep, that's hundreds of pounds! :O

I think it's the glossy pages which attracted me. Half of it were just ads anyway :P

Hmm you know what, I'm going to do a post on this, on my favourite mags. Thanks for the inspiration ;)

  22. Fabuless, you're not the first person I heard who said "Allure is the beauty bible" !!! Lol

Gracie, you are so sweet! I hope it's a good ticklish way!!! Not the "irritated" ticklish way ok? I LOVE to tickle you and make your BF JEALOUS and I'll go ":P" lol

Yellow Fever, wow, a lot of ALLURE lovers, I can see why! I always buy the back issues as international magazines here are super expensive!

Vi Anne, wow...Candy mag is cool too!!! If given the chance, I would buy ALL BEAUTY and FASHION mags!!! If only I'm the type of person who doesn't care! lol I care too much, I would think, "If i add this all in a year, I could treat my whole family for a nice Hotel food!" lol..talk about being crazy !

Alyssa, *high five* to fellow Marie Claire lover! The magazine that I subscribed and paid for the year is Marie Claire! :)

Tine, you are the WINNER!!! Wow at least ONE RETURN ticket to Europe? That's a whole lot of magazine money!!!! You can definitely sell them at $1.00 each and still can use the earnings to buy make-up! LOL You're welcome, I'm glad to be an inspiration

  23. I subscribe to Allure myself; they do have nice beauty tips sometimes. I actually have a 3 year subscription to Allure, Cosmo (haha), and MC because I bought a subscription pack on Ebay. Can you believe it?! 3 years for only $15. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Emilee, another Allure lover!!! 3 subscription??? Upto now?? and only $15??? WHAT?????? lol

  25. I love seventeen...Sadly saying particularly because I can afford most of the stuff from it...whereas Vogue, just a quarter page will be enough to break my bank account...

I hardly ever buy the magazines right now,I don't find them as interesting as the real books that you can read second/third/forth time... I just flip through them I went I am in library...

  26. Vogue are super expensive here too!!!! Any international magazines are multiplied like 2x from the original price that was written on the front page!
