Battle of the Makeup Removers: Lancome vs. L'oreal

High end vs. drugstore brand
Pricey vs. Cheap
Lancome and L'oreal
From the same manufacturer.... The L'oreal Group...

Let's get ready to rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L'oreal Dermo-Expertise Gentle Lip and eye make-up remover won hands down on my L'oreal vs. Mandom post. L'oreal has been my number 1 choice of makeup remover for months! Finally, it has met its match!!! The famous Lancome Bifacil that has been HG (Holy Grail) to a lot of beauty bloggers out there!

But...is this the new HG makeup remover for the Askmewhats? Read on!!!!

**note, the differences of each makeup remover are in RED

Lancome Bifacil
Price: Php1,500 (approx $32.00)
for 125 ml

Eyeshadow : Completely gone
waterproof mascara :
Completely gone

waterproof eyeliner : super minimal left

a bit oily

stings the eye? NO

L'oreal's
Price: Php335.75 (approx $7.00)
for 125ml

Eyeshadow : Completely gone
waterproof mascara :
Completely gone

waterproof eyeliner :
has a bit of liner left on the upper lashline

brow powder :
Completely gone

feel:
Non-oily

stings the eye?
NO

Side by side comparison
You can click to enlarge
Arrows are pointing to the makeup left

  • I've put the same amount of makeup remover on both eyes
  • Pressed the cotton on each eye for half a minute then gently wipe downwards
  • Wiped each eyes 3 times including brows

Final Thoughts?

As you can see on the photos above, the L'oreal has more arrows because the waterproof eyeliner used was left. There are some fallouts from the wipe on my waterline and lower lash area but this can be easily removed if I wiped it again with a Q-tip or cotton buds or another new piece of cotton.

Lancome on the other hand removes the waterproof eyeliner but there's just some left on the outer upper lashline. The eyeliner on the waterline wasn't completely removed as well because it was my fault! I didn't wipe that area with the cotton pad as I usually use a Q-tip or cotton bud to clean my waterline.

Yes, side by side comparison can prove that Lancome Bifacil removes hard headed waterproof eyeliner better than L'oreal. BUT I personally do not like the AFTER feel of Lancome, it is oilier as compared to the L'oreal one. Oil residue left on the eye area is my pet peeve, lol I felt the goosebumps everytime I touch my eyes and I feel the oiliness. But of course, this can be removed if I wash my face with my facial cleanser.

Overall? With the price of L'oreal 's Lip & Eye Make-up remover, I don't mind squirting extra cotton to remove my eye makeup, and the best thing? It doesn't leave an oily residue on my eye area!

I know a lot will not agree, but in my dictionary, L'oreal is still on my HG makeup remover list!!!!

Agree ? Disagree?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
but don't blame me for choosing the cheaper!
Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend!
Keep smilin'
Stay happy!

  2. Omg girl you are so funny!! "Lets get ready to rumble & blame it on the a-a-a-alcohol!" had me laughing out loud! I really like the VS make up remember, it has a double layer as well and I got it on sale for 2.50$ (75% off) I got like 5 bottles lol. WHEN I run out of it, i will definitely try the Loreal one. Thanks for the review!! :)

  3. Well there ya go!!! I say if the cheaper is almost the same power and doesn't feel as oily then that is FANTASTIC!!!!!

  4. whoot! Thanks for the showdown! "Let's get ready to rumble!" xDDD lol Anyway, I want to give the Lancome one a shot, I don't mind having oily residue on my eyes cos I always remove my eyemakeup before everything else, so I wash with and oil cleanser afterwards. I think it's more gentle for me. I'm currently using J&J Baby Oil to remove my eye makeup and -that's- very oily xD The L'Oreal sounds good too. Aaah they all sound good!

  11. e.motion in motion , you are welcome, I just don't get it why there's an oily feel, maybe it's just me? But I've tested it so many times, the oily feel is really there :)

    ♥ , thank you sweety!

~tHiAmErE~ hahahaha the price makes a huge difference, but one thing I really do like about lancome is not much rubbing is needed!

  13. Y, girl! I think the first time I used the L'oreal one, once I remembered it stung my eyes too because I put too much remover on the cotton which makes it leaks into my eyes! So I just squirt 2-3 drops and close my eyes, leave it a bit and slowly rub outwards..hope this helps! :)

Khym, it really depends on how much make up you put on, I have friends who used this to remove all the makeup even foundation, I only use this for my eye makeup so it lasts months!

M, I've been hearing so many cool stuff about Clinique remover, now I'm interested again on something!!! hahaha

  15. The Loreal one has another similar makeup remover in the same Dermo-Expertise series, but specially for waterproof makeup. Maybe that would work even better than the one you are using now :)

  16. i can't bring myself to buy a makeup remover as expensive as lancome :P anyway, yeah there's another makeup remover by loreal that's part oil and part water. it might remove makeup better but it might also have a bit of an oily residue which you don't like.

    ReplyDelete
  17. agree!
i would rather spend on loreal too
    cheaper anyways :P

  21. my_makeup_mania, yes, both works well!!! :) So I think I'm going for the cheaper!

Cherish Cyndi, awww we only have ONE and it's this one that I own! I think I've seen other websites selling the other version, I don't know why we don't have that here!

Crystal, yup, don't like oil residue, I'm ok for wiping more than the oily feeling, it's just me!

    ReplyDelete
  22. LyNn, yay for agreeing!

Ai , VIVA LA L'OREAL!!!??? You are too funny!

Teeyah, let me know how you like it, the Maybelline one works as good but counting the ML and the price L'oreal comes off cheaper!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kim, yes your body shop works well for you and that's good enough!

Yumeko, I know you have the current one that works well, so no need to purchase! :)

  28. The best makeup remover I tried is Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil (the newest formulation, of course!). It really, really nixes all the dirt and makeup from my face after a day's work--even the most stubborn waterproof mascara! :P And contrary to its base, it doesn't leave me feeling oily at all. It's rinsed well without leaving any oily residue. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for this high end vs. low end review!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Roanne, yes, Shu cleansing oil works but I always use a makeup remover for my waterline and those lashline eyeliners before I wash up with Shu, I want to make sure everything's stripped off my face :D LOL

Fab Beauty, you are welcome! I like doing reviews like these!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with you! I use several L'Oreal makeup removers(the one you have, waterproof version, permanent makeup version, etc.) and I think they are excellent value for money and do the job! Do you have Demaq Expert where you live--that's what I use.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i like my L'oreal one! i had to leave it back home in the UK, im gonna ask my sister to bring it to me when she comes :D great review!! lancome is waaay to expensive!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jamilla Camel, down here, we only have 1 type of makeup remover from L'oreal and this is it! LOL I've seen through research they've got different version out there!

NicNic, I know, but it's nice to really use Lancome too knowing there's lesser rubbing, but the price!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you for the review. I was going to dish out on the Lancome. Not now! :p I to don't like that oily residue. When i saw it in the stores, i really thought the it wouldn't be that oily. I've been using Rimmel, but it hasn't really done it's job. Plus it sting a bit. I'll give L'oreal try now. :)
