How to Lighten Your Brows

I have colored hair for as long as I can remember and mind you, all these years, I have thick, dark brows so they never match with my hair color!

Thank goodness for existence of lighter brow pencils!  I bought several especially during my Seoul, Korea trip and it helped lighten the look of my brows!

Just when I thought lighter shade of eyebrow pencil is the answer to my brow problem, I was introduced to the world of brow gels!  My favorite was the one I bought in Singapore called SANA Styling W Brow,  I was able to tint my brows with not much effort!  A couple of weeks ago, I posted this photo on Instagram after an event and I received emails and comments asking me for a tutorial on how I do my brows.

Well, you're in luck!  It's "This is How I Do It: My Brows --- AMW Style"!  I find this the best and easiest technique to create fuller, lighter-looking brows that lasts the whole day!

Start with clean brows, in this photo, you can definitely see how black my brows are!  Keep in mind that I have my brows shaved by yours truly and if my brows turn thick and unruly, I turn to Benefit Brow Bar for my brow waxing needs.

Some people prefer to use eyebrow pencil or brow powder prior to brow gel application.  In my case, I prefer using a brow gel first to serve as a "sticky base" for my brow powder.  At the same time,  I can easily adjust the color with the use of brow powders or brow pencils afterwards.

In this tutorial, I used Majolica Majorca Brow and Lash Colorist in BR333.

After applying the brow gel going to the direction of the growth of your brows, a second coat was applied, this time, going against the growth of your brow hairs.  This technique will coat all your brows making sure the color is even.

Note: If you messed up, don't worry, dip your cotton bud into an oil-free makeup remover and remove excess brow gel.

With your choice of brow powders or brow pencils.  Adjust the shade of your brows closest to your hair color.  In this tutorial, I picked Benefit's Brows A-Go-Go using  Charm Dream Brow Duo Brush.

I strongly suggest to finish the step by brushing your brows with a brow spoolie to remove excess brow gel residue or brow powders.

  1. it looks so easy when you do it! i don't use brow gels but I want to. I have dark colored hair but my brows are darker and I want to lighten it up a bit.... I just use a spoolie brush to lighten it up but I am not satisfied.

  3. try using brown mascara too! I am currently using one from CoverGirl which it too dry to be used as a mascara, (cause I like my mascara wet and thick in formula) but dry enough to be used on your brows.

  6. thank u for this post! i recently started using in2it brow powder and i've been practicing for one week now :) i'm just a bit concerned that the brows sometimes come out in a shade that is *awkwardly* too different from my natural hair color. is there a way to prevent this? thanks a lot again!

    1. Maybe you bought a wrong brow powder shade? or you probably need to mix and match it with other brow powder shades. I mix my Benefit brow powder between the light and the medium!

    1. Well, I wouldn't be surprised especially if the mascara you use can make your lashes crunchy, I can imagine how it could make your brows clumpy :) Thanks for the feedback :) I guess that's why there's brow gels :) hehehehe

  10. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I
found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic
but I had to tell someone!
