AMW Reviews: Sleek Kajal Eyeliner in Odyssey (Purple)

When we talk about Kajal Liners, I always imagine them as dark colored liners used to create dramatic looks!  My very first Kajal Liner is from The Body Shop, and true to what I say, they came in dark shades in which I love to use when I create smoky eye looks!

Though I've used the Kajal Liner several times, I still have a lot left so I don't know how a single individual can finish Kajal Liners!  Unless, you wear them 24/7 and 365 days a year? :D

Okay back to Kajal Liners (I seriously tend to blab too much so forgive me :P), my favorite brand Sleek came up with their own Kajal Eyeliner and this time I got the purple shade!

Why in the world do I need a purple Kajal Liner when I can easily pick my purple eyeliner pencil to give an instant color on my water line or lower lash line?

Well, Kajal Eyeliners are unique because they can double up as an eyeshadow base aside from eyeliner.  They are creamy enough to be used as an eyeshadow base creating an instant pop to whatever powder shades you have on top!

Sleek says ---
This uniquely chic product is an ultra creamy, highly pigmented and long lasting eyeliner.
Glides on effortlessly, whilst emphasising the eyes with intensity.
This product can be used as an eyeliner or smudged on to create an eyeshadow look.

Ingredients: Japan Wax, Carnauba Wax, Candelila Wax, Bees Wax, Ozokerite, Cereskin, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Phenyl Trimethicone, 2-Ethylhexyl Plamitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propyl Paraben, iron Oxide Red (CI7749(, Iron Oxide Yellow (CI77492), Iron Oxide Black (CI77499(, Titanium Dioxide (CI77891).

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Soft and smooth in texture.
  • Can be used as an eyeshadow base or eyeliner.
  • Pigmentation is great on the eyelid and lashline.
  • Works for my sensitive eyes, no eye irritations.
  • Does not crease on my lid.
  • Serves as a good eyeshadow base/primer.  Eyeshadows turned out to be more vibrant and longer lasting.
Cons
  • Though great pigmentation on eyelid, it isn't on the waterline.
  • Won't smudge but may wear off after 4-5 hours if you have very oily lids.
  • Only 2 shades available: Nocturnal (Black) and Odyssey (Purple)
Neutral
  • Packaging.
Overall
A smooth, easy to apply Kajal liner that works as an eyeshadow base and eyeliner.  Pigmentation is good, does not crease on most lids (unless super oily lidded).

Tips
  • Apply at an angle to prevent liner from going blunt!
  • This is the perfect time to bring out your loose pigments/mineral eye shadows.  They will stick on top of the Sleek Kajal Eyeliner like a dream as the texture is creamy.
  • For instant pop on your regular makeup routine, use this on your lower lash line to create an instant "color".
  • Practice piling on a light colored eyeshadow or dark colored eyeshadow on top of Odyssey to create the shade of eye shadow you want to achieve. Practice makes perfect, keep that in mind!
  • For an instant pop without piling much eyeshadow, apply the Odyssey shade on the crease area for an instant color.
Will I repurchase?
Probably not this shade again as I'm not really a purple shadow lover, I would go for other shades!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Those who are into bright colored eye shadows may go for Odyssey (purple), if you are the type who like to use a product several times a week, purchase Nocturnal (black) as you can always use this alone as an eyeliner.

Where to purchase and how much?

Swatch: Odyssey

I prefer to apply at an angle to keep the tip sharp.

As an eyeshadow base, I apply this all over my crease with a half moon shape.
The application doesn't have to be perfect as I will be piling on eyeshadow powder on top.

Using a small brush, I gently blend in the shades blurring out harsh lines.

Using the sharp tip of the Kajal eyeliner, apply on the lower lash line for continuity.

I pulled out my newest purple eyeshadow from The Body Shop Colour Crush Collection
called Grape Expectations using my newest Soffia brush.

Apply Grape Expectations on top of the Kajal Eyeliner.  Feel free to add more if needed.

Purple colored eyeshadow can definitely make or break a look!  Wearing them alone will make you look like a housewife who suffered from domestic violence!  The trick?  Whip out your favorite liquid liner and create your choice of think/thick line!  You can even wing it if you want to!

To make this look more intense yet wearable on a daytime, I used a black pencil liner and applied on waterline.

My Purple look using Sleek Kajal Eyeliner in Odyssey

Are you confident enough to wear purple colored eyeshadows?
How would you wear it?  With black eyeshadow? Liquid Liner? Loads of mascara?

  2. I thought the same thing about never being able to finish my kajal liner, turns out I waste more by accidentally breaking the point whenever I sharpen it! then I have to sharpen it again. And that's why my kajal liner is now down to a little stub. Could you tell me how to apply black kajal without ending up with panda eyes? I apply it as a liner on my eyelid in the morning and by the afternoon it's smudged all over the place. Is there a way to set it?

    1. Oh no! that is one thing I dislike most, a broken kajal liner! I will probably not use it anymore out of frustration! Until this very moment, I am very careful with each application, so thankfully, they still look wonderfully nice :D

Have you tried piling a powder eyeshadow on top of the kajal liner? or if you really have super oily lids, you MUST use an eyeshadow primer underneath, buy an inexpensive one that works, Etude House Proof 10 is nice

    2. Thanks, I've never tried piling on a powder eyeshadow on top of the liner, will try.I do have an eyeshadow primer (I forget the brand), so I'll start using that more. I never used to think I had 'oily lids' (sounds greasy!) but I think I must have, since by the afternoon my eyeshadow has faded if i don't use a primer. Thanks again for the response and advice.
