Something New: Caronia Tropical Doll Collection

Happy Saturday friends!  Are you excited for the weekend?  What will you be doing?
Me, I'm off for a busy weekend (again) after a much deserved weekend-rests for the month of May!  June is the month for Wedding so I will be a bit busy over bridal clients!  I'm not complaining though!  I'm quite pleased with the trust clients have in me!

Let's talk about local nail polish brand!  I've been a Caronia user for as long as I remember, I used to complain how "glossy" their finishes are and how less pigmented most of them are.  Fast forward to a decade later, I'm glad the company is coming up with matte polishes, better pigmentation and unique colors that (personally speaking), quite comparable with international brands!

A couple of weeks ago, I was sent a cute box including 3 newest shades called Tropical Doll Collection.  I believe this collection is inspired by summer --- beach, tropical fruits and drinks, the works!

L-R Kiwi (lime green)
Blueberry (true blue)
Tangerine (red orange)

Because I can't remove my nail art to swatch, and I can't pull out Mr. AMW's cute fingers and apply polish on him *laughs*, thank goodness for fake nails that I bought from Daiso!  I can show you how lovely the colors are!

Top: 1 coat
Bottom: 2 coats
These are applied without base and top coat

One Coat
As seen on swatch below, the polish isn't streaky and pigmentation is very good!
One coat is best done for people who aren't comfortable wearing bright polish shades but wants to start somewhere!  Don't forget to finish with your choice of top coat for a nice shine and protection!

Two Coats
For that ultimate tropical experience!

Tangerine is a perfect reddish orange shade, most of the girls are scared to use red polishes as it may make them look mature or vamp-y.  Using a reddish orange polish shade shows a fun, sexy and YOUNG attitude!

Blueberry shade screams summer!  I can't say it reminded me of a blueberry (the fruit) but this calls for "young vibe"!  If you find this shade too much for you, apply this shade on your toes!

Kiwi, my favorite among the bunch, is a unique apple green shade!  I can't wait to use this for my next nail art tutorial!
Caronia is available in all leading department stores, supermarkets, drug stores, and health & beauty shops nationwide for Php33.25 (approx $0.80)

Please keep in mind that it is best to invest on a good base coat to protect your nails from yellowing!  My favorite is the ZOYA base coat.

What's your favorite shade out of the bunch?

Stay happy!

AMW Reviews: Estee Lauder's CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB Cream

BB Creams ....
I have been intrigued with this extra step for the longest time!  I can still remember those days I would sneak to Ebay and search for various BB Cream brands and read about it!  (I was that addicted to BB Creams and Korean skin!)

Gone where the days I would tediously search for BB creams locally and even forced myself to purchase a tinted moisturizer thinking it's BB cream-like!

Various of Korean branded BB creams arrived our shores and our friends from the western brands are catching up!  Who would've thought my favorite CyberWhite Brilliant Cells skincare range from Estee Lauder would come up with their own version of a BB Cream?

(Pause for drama)

*laughs*  Here you go!  I've used this for a good 1 month and here's my honest-to-goodness thoughts.

Estee Lauder says ---
A gentle lightweight brightening BB cream Helps reduce appearance of imperfections & even skin s tone Provides a high level SPF 35 PA+++ protection to resist UV rays Restrains surface oil & shine to maintain a fresh look throughout the day Builds a smooth base for makeup to glide on Creates a perfect natural looking complexion while leaving skin comfortable Dermatologist tested non-acnegenic To use: Apply on cleansed face in the morning.

Size: 30ml/1oz

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Squeeze-type packaging.
  • Product is well-sealed upon purchase.
  • Very lightweight
  • Hydrating formulation, doesn't dry out my skin even without moisturizer underneath.
  • Doesn't oil-up my skin.
  • Can even out skin tone.
  • Gives a brightening effect without "obvious" shimmer.
  • None of those weird white cast.
  • Has SPF35
Cons
  • Lack of pigmentation as compared to other BB creams.
  • Price
Overall
The BB Cream is quite impressive!  Most of the western BB creams I have tried turn out to be too grayish or too pink for my skin but the Estee Lauder BB Cream proved us how it was really made for the Asian market.  The feel, the effect looks like a tinted moisturizer with additional benefits.

I won't talk about oil-control much as BB Creams aren't there to work as a face primer, if you have very oily skin, I strongly suggest to use oil-free foundation or use an oil-control face primer.

Tips
  • Always start with clean face and fingers!
  • I prefer using my fingers in terms of BB cream application as it blends in the product more and the effect looks more natural.
  • A little goes a long way.
  • If you will be out under the sun for long, apply sunscreen prior to BB cream application.
  • Let the BB cream set for a couple of minutes before proceeding to foundation application.
Will I repurchase?
Not for now, so many BB Creams to try!  Be ready for the next BB Cream review from Palgantong :)

To whom do I recommend this to?

Anyone who likes "tinted" moisturizer feel kind of BB cream, gives out a brightening effect minus the obvious shimmer, minus the white cast.

Where to purchase and how much?
At local Estee Lauder counters for Php2,500 (approx $58.00).
I believe international readers may get this at Estee Lauder counters around $60.00.

Product photo and swatch

One tiny squeeze shows a pinky beige shade

the pinkish tone is a bit too obvious at first swipe
I got scared that this may look too pink or white on my skin

After further blending, it blends right into my skin color
leaving a nice "glow" (very tiny hint of shimmers)

Left-Bare faced
Right- with Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells BB Cream
The coverage isn't as much but if you look closely, the red spots on my cheek area was covered and my skin looks radiantly fresh without the look of BB cream.  On lazy days, I just spot conceal areas that needed the extra coverage and set with a loose powder!

Have you tried any Western brand BB creams?
Which brand and are you happy with it?

Aside from Estee Lauder, I have tried Clinique's BB Cream, same company under the Estee Lauder group but let me tell you, both BB Creams look and feel differently!  Will blog about it once I'm ready!

Eureka Moment: A Travel Bag that's also a Makeup Bag

Hi AMW Readers!
I have this love for collecting makeup pouches, mini bags and what-not!  I always tell myself I'll be able to use them during travel but I always ended up using them for my makeup gigs!  No wonder I fell in love with the ZUCA Pro case as I love pouches!

Recently, I have found a nice travel bag from the brand of camera bags, laptop bags etc...  who would've thought they came up with a nice travel collection?

Toiletries Bag
Under the Dry Red Travel Collection

I went on to the Crumpler website and here's the description of the bag ---

"A good looking carry-all for the goods you carry to look after your good looks, the Dry Red No. 1 has toiletries transport in the bag. An open and shut case for the beauty of organization, it includes seven separate storage zones – two wet, five dry – plus the convenience of an inbuilt hanger strap. "
One feature that I find quite unique is the inbuilt hanger strap, I wouldn't mind attaching this on my makeup traincase as believe it or not, the Zuca case is favorited by makeup artists worldwide for its ability to carry loads of stuff but would you believe I have it so full I can't seem to put some "skin care cleansing" products plus extra makeup brushes anymore?

Yeah, talk about bringing LOADS of stuff!  That's me, everything's important and a "must bring"! *laughs*

Crumpler Dry Red Travel Bag zippered mesh pocket on the reverse of the opening flap is great to store some tissue paper, cotton pads, makeup sponges and a lot more!

Inside the pouch, you find 2 zippered compartment for more products to bring, I like putting in facial cleanser samples, toners and moisturizers plus a tiny amount of makeup brush cleaner.

The elasticized loops are great to store more brushes!

Zippered pocked at the front part for random retouch products from powders, blush to lipstick!  This is a great pouch to hold when you do retouch for clients!

Crumpler Dry red Travel Bag is made of water-resistant material!
I don't mind the Black and red combination as it is actually one of a favorite color combination of mine!

The travel bag is a bit pricey at Php1,950.00 (approx $45.00) but it's all worth it if you find a good way to  use it!  In my case, I'll be using this on makeup gigs so it'll be worth it!

Crumpler Limited Edition Dry Red Collection is available at ---  Crumpler Bonifacio Highstreet, Trinoma, Megamall and Robinsons Ermita.

AMW Reviews: Revlon Absolute C Radiance Moisture Cleansing Oil

One cleansing oil after another, I can see how much I love to cleanse my face with the help of cleansing oils even if I don't use much makeup!

It must be the relaxing feel of massaging the lightweight oil onto your face and leave it for a couple of seconds, I'm not sure if it helps in making my skin feels smooth but I'm loving the way my skin feels after every wash!

The most recent cleansing oil brand I use came from a brand you wouldn't expect to have cleansing oils --- Revlon.

Revlon Absolute C Radiance Moisture Cleansing Oil

Revlon Cleansing Oil says ---
The Absolute C Radiance Moisture range works to protect skin from harmful environmental effects and restore radiance.  It incorporates a breakthrough intense delivery system, which continuously releases high stable Vitamin C.  Combined with marine extracts it boosts hydration for smoother and more radiant skin.  With continuous use, you will experience an exceptional illuminated complexion.

A deep cleansing oil for quick and easy removal of makeup and skin impurities.  Contains moisturizing ingredients to leave skin fresh, soft and radiant without stripping skin of its natural oils.

Ingredients:

Net Wt.: 130ml

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Very simple, clear pump packaging making it easy to see how much product is left.
  • Expiration date clearly printed on box.
  • Very lightweight, doesn't emulsify as much as other brands but effectively remove all traces of makeup.
  • Citrus (orange) scent.  Anyone familiar with car freshener "My Shaldan" in Orange?  Smells exactly the same, I don't mind, I love it!
  • Skin feels oil-free yet moisturized immediately after wash.
  • No skin irritations occur during the span of usage.
  • Can remove hard-to-remove mascaras and gel liners.
Cons
  • Doesn't blur out my vision BUT my eyes tear up a bit even several minutes after washing.
  • Price

Overall
From a brand that's known for makeup and not cleansing, I wasn't expecting a lot from Revlon's Absolute C Radiance Moisture Cleansing Oil.  Imagine the shock of my life when it removes even the hard-to-remove mascaras and gel liners!  The cleansing oil is very light-weight, feels "almost like water" yet very effective in terms of cleansing!

Tips
  • Pump 2-3 times for the whole face.
  • Gently massage the cleansing oil with your fingertips and add a bit of water to emulsify.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water and don't forget to follow up with your choice of facial cleanser.
  • Since this product puts me to tears, I prefer to skip application on the eye area and leave it to eye makeup removers that are made for sensitive eyes.
  • Remove eye makeup with the help of cotton bud and cotton pads.
Will I repurchase?
Not for now.  I still have loads of cleansing oils to use.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Those who dislikes the heavy feel of regular cleansing oil.  This is one of the lightest cleansing oil I've tried to date.

Where to purchase and how much?
Locally, at Revlon counters for Php550.00 (approx $12.80).

Have you heard about Revlon's Cleansing Oil?
How many cleansing oils have you finished up?  I can't count mine!!! I'm sure it's more than 10!!! *laughs*

AMW Reports: Promod Opens its 10th Store in BGC

Two years ago, I was invited by Promod for a styling challenge for Promod's "Je Nie Sais Quoi" style (French High-Street Fashion).  Me and my friend Shanna had fun styling the mannequin and that's were I found my love for fashion.

I am not a fashion stylist but I know my sense of style like the back of my hand.  I usually lean for comfort+ cute and sometimes chic+classy!  It wasn't difficult to shop at Promod Megamall (the branch near my office back then) as I can easily find pieces that defines my personality.

I just realized 3 of my outfits were from Promod during the Vaseline Roadtrip of a Lifetime!  We were asked to bring casual, comfortable yet chic outfit!  Promod fits the bill!

Promod Striped top in which I was inspired to do a nail art from it!

It was a very simple tank top but the color is so bright and cheer-y I can't let this pass!

 amidst the tired look! :P

Today, Promod opens its 10th store at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig and I was one of the lucky few who got invited to check out what the store has to offer!

It was refreshing to see a wide range of collections for different fashion styles!  A stage was set up for a mini fashion show later on.
