AMW Bulletin: Run to Save Lives

Dear AMW Readers:
Isn't it great to stay healthy as you save lives?
As they say: "Run for your life --- and that of others" (quoted from Red Cross Million Volunteer Run)

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has announced the 2nd Red Cross Million Volunteer Run (MVR) this coming February 10, 2013 which will be held simultaneously in Metro Manila and other key Philippine cities.

The first MVR was held in year 2011 and after almost 2 years, I'm glad the second one is here to celebrate Volunteerism.

Seeing our nation in disasters and danger for the past years and watching volunteers who readily give their time and effort to help people in need, I can't help but salute them, so does the MVR 2 does, to salute the heroes for the past years! According to PRC Charmin Richard Gordon: "We will yet forge an aspect of our national identity as that of belonging to the foremost volunteer country in the world!"

Interested to join?  Here are the mechanics:
  • Participants 17 years old and below must have secure signed Parental Consent Waiver Form must be signed to qualify for registration.  You may bring your Multiply Original Invoice which is also considered as Official Receipt as Waiver.
  • All volunteer participants must complete the MVR Registration Form honestly and accurately.
  • Run date is on Sunday, February 10, 2013.  For Metro Manila, starting point for 3k will be at CCP (in front of Aliw Theater), 5K will be at Global Gutz (Jose Diokno St. Near World Trade Center).  Finishing points for both categories will be at the QuirinoGrandstand.  Race points for provincial runners will be announced later.
  • Assembly time will at at 5:00am.
  • Gun start will promptly be 5:30am for 3K and 6:00am for 5K.

AMW Reviews: Maybelline Eye Studio Lumineyes Illuminating Eyeshadow in WN-1

As a makeup artist, I have invested on single eyeshadow from various brands and never really take my time to play on quads or palettes!  Though I'm a fan of "anything pink", I've never thought of wearing pink shadows as I find them too "young" and "girly" for me!

Last year, I got the Maybelline Eye Studio Lumineyes Illuminating Eyeshadow in pink and I stored this inside my makeup kit for my super young clients (ex. Flower girls, etc...)  After receiving various requests from my younger readers on an affordable, good quality eyeshadow for them to use, I picked this particular palette and gave this a try!

The palette comes in various shades of pinks!

Maybelline says ---
Comes with the first-ever illuminating color-control primer now introduces 4 brand new palettes into the family
The result?  Dazzling party-perfect shades that last longer, appear more even, and illuminate the eyes.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • The quality of the packaging is good.
  • Has direction at the back on how to apply the shadows.
  • Most palettes come with 4 eyeshadow shades, this one, you get 5!
  • The sponge applicator can be used multiple times and quality is also good.
  • Decent pigmentation without primer on.
  • All the shades match no matter how you use it.  (Whether 2 shades, 3 shades or even 5 shades!)
  • Blends easily.
  • Thankfully, there's none of the glittery shades included in this palette.
Cons
  • Some of the shadows do not appear much on lid without primer underneath.
  • Color may wear off especially if you have oily lids.
  • No matte shade available in this palette.
Overall
Pigmentation is okay, not so good but not bad either.  The colors are blend-able and easy to use with other eyeshadow shades.  The palette comes with a nice highlighting shade too!

Tips
  • Best used with primer underneath for colors to pop and eyeshadow to last longer.
  • Use the sponge tip applicator for more pigmented application.
  • Do not forget to blend well with a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blur out harsh lines.
  • If you use all the shades in this palette, stay away from using pink blush and pink lipstick, the overall effect maybe too much too handle!
  • Line your eyes with a dark black gel liner to give a nice contrast between girly and drama!
Will I repurchase?
Yes, in other shades.

To whom do I recommend this to?

Where to purchase and how much?
At local Maybelline counters for Php599.00 (approx $14.96). Like Maybelline Philippines on Facebook.

Maybelline Studio Lumineyes Illuminating Eyeshadow in WN-1
AMW Way
Step 1: Picking the shade shown on photo above, I applied this shade all over my lid.
Step 2: Using the 2nd to the darkest shade, I applied this to contour my eyes.

Step 3: Using the darkest shade and with the sharp tip of the sponge application, I applied it on the outer-V.
Step 4: With the lightest pink shade, I tapped a bit of the product at the center of my eyelid.

Step 5: With my favorite white illuminating powder, I applied this at the inner corners of my eyes.

Eye makeup done without primer on

The effect may be too pink for you, don't forget to apply your choice of liner and feel free to wing it for more drama!

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Eyeshadow Palettes?
How was the experience?

Out of all the eyeshadow palettes that I have tried from the said brand, this is definitely a huge improvement in terms of pigmentation and the way it is easier to blend as compared to the older version.

I Wonder: What Will You Include in Your SOS Kit?

Before the year 2012 ended, I got an invite from Bridges PR for a nice lunch and unveiling of a "Beauty Secret".  I have to admit, I was very intrigued, but because morning sickness got the best of me, I had to decline and prayed I get to know what these "Beauty secrets" are!

Thanks Franco, for sending me the SOS kit that's perfect not only for the holidays but wonderful as these are instant beauty fixes I need since I don't feel and look good at this time of my life!  Come on, hormones!  Who can control them?

SOS Beauty Kit

Included inside the kit are wonderful must-have products to make any girl survive a day looking like a diva.  Okay, not really a diva but at least, well made up to face anyone!

Do you spot familiar brands and products?

Some Instant Fixes ---
  1. Pouch - any cute pouch you own that would fit all your essentials.
  2. CloseUp White Now - I have used this product for a year and used this daily after lunch!  This product does help whiten your teeth instantly because of its Blue Foam Technology.  (Think why red lipstick with blue base can make anyone's teeth whiter?  Same concept!)
  3. Acca Kappa Travel Toothbrush - or any brush that you can bring at work!
  4. Maybelline Falsies Mascara - this mascara is great for volumizing your lashes.  As for me, I still love my Maybelline Volum' Express mascara!
  5. Nars Orgasm - true to the name of the product, it gives a nice euphoric vibe to anyone who wears this.  This blush I have one in my makeup train case and I have another one for personal use!  This works for most skin tones!
  6. The Balm Kabuki Brush - the K-brush is the easiest brush to tote during travel due to its size and various functions!  This works not only as a blush brush but also a powder retouch brush!
  7. Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Gabrielle - Red lipstick will always be an instant fixer to any girls!  Though it is a bit scary to wear red mid-day, a deep warm red shade as the Gabrielle from Chanel works so well anytime of the day!  I can get away with no eye makeup on wearing just this lip shade!
Check out the gorgeous shade!  This is my current favorite red lippie as of the moment!  Even Mr. AMW (who's not used to seeing me wear bright red lipsticks) approved this!

A girl, of course can bring much more makeup as long as she has the space for it!  Given the chance to add my SOS kit, I would add my favorite setting powder and my recent favorite face illuminizer as of the moment!  Benefit's Girl Meets Pearl!  Can't blame me, I'm a "glowy skin" type of girl!

Now, it's my turn to take a "virtual peek" on what's in your SOS Kit!  If you are given this size of a pouch, I WONDER --- "What Will You Include in Your SOS Kit?"
Aside from the products listed above, I want to add that SMILING is the best secret in making even a makeup-free face look gorgeous!  Try it!  It's free! :D

Weekend Food Trip at: Modern Shanghai

Last weekend, I was invited by our family friend for a nice meal at the newly opened restaurant at SM Mall of Asia called Modern Shanghai.  Modern Shanghai, based on my research prior to visiting the restaurant is part of The Bistro Group.  I've always been a fan of restaurants from the said group and most of the time, I leave their restaurants with a silly smile on my face as I don't get out just being "plain full" but very contented!

Will Modern Shanghai be just like any other Chinese restaurants I've tried?  Well, you better stay focuse and scroll down while I reminisce these wonderful dishes!

Modern Shanghai on the outside reminded me so much of the posh restaurants I've dined in Shanghai.

As soon as I got in the restaurant, the wonderful ambiance and yellow lighting greeted me and immediately puts me at ease.  We had a nice table reserved for both Mr. AMW and I plus our friends.  As I looked around mentally wished for their signature Xiao Long Bao, well, wishes do come true!
