How to: Eye Makeup for Hooded Lids

According to online dictionary, the term "hooded eyelids" means having heavy eyelids that appear to be half closed.

As for me, it doesn't have to be half closed but eyes that has extra "lid" that covers a bit of your crease.  This tutorial is made not only for people with said lids but this also works for anyone who likes to create an instant eye lift with the use of makeup!  (Promise, it's painless!)

Here's the most simple steps that I've done, feel free to use your own eyeshadow shades, in this tutorial, I picked my newest Bobbi Brown Rich Caviar Eye Palette as it has all the shades I need to create this eye makeup!

AMW Reviews: TEARS Glam HD Powder Foundation

TEARS, is a cosmetics brand owned by famous Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo.
I have tried their eyebrow pencil and I was impressed with its quality and they are cheaper as compared to other Korean brands like Etude House, SkinFood, The Face Shop, Missha etc...  I believe the store was on store wide sale when I visited the shop thus the inexpensive price range!

I went back to the store to hoard on the TEARS Line & Mode Autobrow, I took a bit more time to look around and saw a powder foundation called Glam HD!

I asked the SA to help me apply the darkest shade (yes, darkest!) which was number 23 Natural Beige on half of my face as I walked around and test the foundation.  The weather was cool then so I really can't tell.  Since I'm there and I won't be returning, I bought it right away because it's expensive for a HD (High Definition)!
Now that I'm back in our dear hot and humid and crazy weathered country, I've tested and used this a couple of times.  I'm ready to reveal my thoughts.....

Tears Glam HD Two-Way Cake says ---
Sorry, can't find their website and the details on box is in Korean.
SPF25 PA++
Available in 3 shades: 13(Light Beige), 21 (Beige), 23 (Natural Beige)

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Very nice "chic" dark blue packaging.  Shape is unique.
  • The "sponge" compartment has holes for the sponge to breathe.
  • Huge mirror!!!
  • I think they sell refills!  Even if not, the size of the refill is similar to Revue (Japanese Brand).
  • The texture of the powder is smooth and easy to apply on skin.
  • Evens out the skin.
  • Gives light to medium coverage.
  • Absorbs the oil after application.  Skin looks fresh and matte.
  • After application, settles into the skin and blends in with the skin color.
  • I've used this for photos with direct flash, my face still looks a bit lighter than the neck but not too much as compared to regular powder foundation.
Cons
  • Packaging could get a bit too bulky if you have small purse.
  • Since the packaging is a bit glossy, I can see fingerprints after every use!  It irks me :(
  • Only 3 shades to choose from.
  • Dry skinned individuals may "flake" a bit especially on the sides of the nose.
  • Not available locally or even in other countries!  Have to purchase this in Korea or through resellers.
Overall
I haven't tried enough High definition (HD) powder foundation so I really can't compare this to other brands!  This isn't a "To die" for product, MAC Studiofix Powder Foundation has better coverage. Keep in mind for the price of Tears Glam HD Powder Foundation, it's 3x cheaper than MAC and the product performs as it should.  It has oil-control function, evens the skin tone and sets the liquid foundation quite well.

Tips
  • If you want a bit more coverage, use a sponge for application.
  • To be used as setting powder, use a big fluffy brush to apply all over face adding more on areas that you know will oil up.
  • Do not drop the compact!
  • Wash the sponge before use.  Wash the sponge as often as 2-3x per week if you're using this on a daily basis.
  • Dry skinned individuals: Moisturize really well prior to using this foundation.  This product "sucks" oil.
  • Oily skinned individuals: You can still use your favorite oil-control face primer prior to usage.  If you plan to re-apply, blot your face with a tissue paper or oil-blotting paper so the oil from your skin won't transfer to the sponge.  May cause bacteria build-up.
  • If you have friends traveling to Korea, you can ask them to help you purchase, available at MyeongDong area.  They won't miss it as the store is huge!
  • Re-use the packaging by purchasing refills even from different brands as long as the pan size is similar!
Will I repurchase?
For personal use, I won't.
For clients with oily skin, ok as setting powder!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Normal, Oily-skinned individuals who likes the oil-control plus the smooth and light feel of the powder foundation.

Where to purchase and how much?
At Tears store around 13,250KRW (Php530.00/$12.30).

23 Natural Beige
Freshly applied looks lighter than my skin color
but it settles after a couple of minutes.
(I am not acidic)

Applied all over face with sponge, I look fresh!
If you get the chance to click to photo to enlarge,
you'll see that the sides of my nose dried up a bit!

Gorgeous case which I wouldn't mind to re-use!
I have a couple of Revue refills that doesn't have a house! :)

Liked any HD Foundation product that's inexpensive?

AMW Reviews: Tears Line & Mode Autobrow

Hi everyone!  How was Christmas Day?  Got any gifts you've been dreaming off?  Well, I had a wonderful Christmas Day as I spent it with both families!  Went on a short day trip at Tagaytay for some R&R with my family because my brother came back for vacation and I am sure his tummy is craving for his favorite Bulalo!  Though traffic was crazy, everything went well and I was able to spend quality time with my husband's family for dinner!  It was a busy day but it was definitely a day filled with love, laughter and of course....food!

Though I may sound like I'm on vacation mode, well, this blog isn't resting!  There are a couple of reviews I want to share to everyone!  Especially to a lot of my readers who emailed me telling me they will be off to Korea next year!  *jealous mode*  Most questions I've asked?  "What to buy in Korea?"

A LOT!  But let me start one product at a time and I have to justify why it's "a must buy", right?  First things first, this brand is definitely new to a lot of you!  The brand sounds weird actually but to my dear Philippine readers, you'll be proud how this brand name came about....

Stairway to Heaven star Kwon Sang Woo has been a spokesperson  for other cosmetics brand for more than 5 years (author inserts: The Face Shop) and he found this industry to be a charm!  He then prepared for his own cosmetics business and got involved personally with brand planning and product development!

Here's the wonderful part about why he named the cosmetics brand Tears....

An interview taken from Koreanclicks.com
"Back in Philippines, when I was doing the promotion of my Korean TV drama ‘Stairway to Heaven’, fans called me ‘Mr Tears’ where I feel it a good sense of language.”

Now that you've got a bit of insight on the cosmetic brand, let me proceed with the first Tears product I will be reviewing, I actually bought this at Tears, Myeong Dong branch which is the first branch opened!

Tears Line & Mode Autobrow

Tears Line & Mode Autobrow says ---
Sorry, I can't seem to find their website, maybe they have one in Korean version.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Sealed upon purchase to assure freshness of product
  • Available in at least 3-4 shades (base on my bad memory)
  • Very inexpensive!
  • No need to sharpen!
  • Build in eyebrow brush which is very useful!
  • Lasts quite some time!
  • Can be easily shared to others as you can easily spritz the tip with makeup remover for hygiene purposes.
  • Can be easily removed with makeup remover
Cons
  • Not widely available! :(
Overall
I won't say this is the BEST eyeliner to date because I still have a lot of other Korean branded eyebrow pencils (The Face Shop, Missha, etc...)  Will do reviews on them one by one then probably will come back and choose the best.
For its price though, it is indeed the most inexpensive and wonderful eyebrow pencil I've owned!

Tips
  • Draw with light hand motion
  • Choose the eyebrow pencil shade that's a bit close to your hair color, I chose mine BR02 which is the lightest because I have light colored hair!
  • If you think you've drawn a bit too much or too dark, no need to remove it with makeup remover, brush gently with the brush that comes with the eyebrow pencil!
  • Find your shade, try on testers before you purchase, do not depend on "guessing" and ask your friends to hoard for you!
  • If you are like me who knows the right eyebrow pencil shade, you can ask your friends who plan to travel to Korea to purchase for you!!!
  • Do not forget to include the eyebrow area in wiping off makeup at night!
Will I repurchase?
YES!  I actually purchased 3 because I tried this brow pencil on spot and love it!  I feel bad that I did not purchase more though!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Anyone who likes eyebrow pencils and wants the natural looking brows that doesn't break the bank!

Where to purchase and how much?
At Myeong-Dong, Seoul Korea for KRW4,000 which is approximately Php100.00/$2.25.

Tears Line & Mode Autobrow in BR02
Product used a couple of times so the eyeliner side is not perfect!
Eyebrow Brush that comes with the pencil is really soft and easy to use!

Tears BR02 Swatched on hand
Similar to my Paul & Joe Eyebrow Pencil No. 2

Before and after of eyebrows

So far, this is my favorite eyebrow pencil that I reach out for on a daily basis!
Such a great alternative for my Paul & Joe Eyebrow Pencil!
What's your favorite inexpensive Eyebrow Pencil?

AMW Version: "Smokey Eyes for Monolids"

Good morning everyone!  Another AMW Version dedicated to readers out there!  There are so many makeup tutorial and I'm still grateful that a lot of you would like to see mine!  Thanks to readers who appreciate the tutorials I've done and for asking me to help them with their eye makeup (even online!).  I have one request I haven't done and I'm glad I finally made one!

I was asked to do a "smokey eye makeup" for monolids.  What the heck is monolids by the way (heads to google)

Technically, there's no exact definition of monolid but I guess the people who invented this term are makeup addicts so I'll just grab it from random website:
Monolid: Eyes without the crease on their lid area.  Some like to call this "Asian Eyes" but because I don't want to discriminate and not all Asians have monolids (ex. ME!), I'd rather use the term "monolids"
Photo example:

This is my version though and I"m sure there's hundreds and thousands of versions out there.  If I have the mood, I may do more!  :)

I have a tiny crease on my eyelid
but let's disregard the tiny crease for this tutorial!

AMW Diagram

Prior to eyeshadow application, use an eye primer of your choice as smokey eye makeup can get messy and could get a lot of fall outs!  Using an eye primer will prevent it from happening!

In this tutorial, I am using the ELF Eyelid Primer because..its readily available and I'm too lazy to grab other primers on my makeup train case!  *laughs*

Step 1:
Using any soft blending brush, I am using the free one from the Urban Decay Book of Shadows, I applied a Shimmery Silver eyeshadow from the Sleek Graphite Palette. (which I won from Cosmetic Candy! Yay!)

Step 2:
Using the same brush (it's ok as we start from lightest eyeshadow to darkest).  I applied a shimmery black eyeshadow from the center of the lids going outward.  Imagine 45 degrees angle applying more on the outer crease area.

Step 3:
Using a pencil brush or any brush that's more dense and short bristled, apply the darkest black eyeshadow you own making an exaggerated "cat eye" with an eyeshadow.  In my case, I covered the whole "fold" of my lids extending it outwards with a bold cat eye.

Do not forget to apply on the lower lashline with the same brush.

Step 4:
Once you're happy with it, re apply Step 3 with your preferred gel liner or liquid liner for that really obvious eyeliner look!

Imagine Sandara Park's eye lining skills!
So this is definitely for nighttime!

I have to do the lower lash line using a different eyeliner brush, a more precise one for that precise "winged" look.

Step 5:
Draw your waterline with any eyeliner pencil you prefer.  I am using the one from Elianto and I highlight the corner of my eyes with Urban Decay's Yeyo (or any white eyeliner).

Look back, making sure both eye liner are at least matched!

Do not forget to draw your brows.  I am using Tears Eyebrow Pencil in Light Brown.  Brushing my eyebrows in shape!

Curl my lashes with an eyelash curler, attached falsies!  I am actually using only one falsie in this tutorial but I cut them in half for that "pixie" lashes!  I applied coats of Etude House Henna Fix mascara.

Here's my version of "Smokey Eyes for Monolids"
The reason for the very thick liner is to create a "depth" of a crease, making your eyes pop even more.  The extended winged liner look make your eyes appear larger, (the winged liner should go upwards ok?).  The additional line below the winged liner is just a drama you can skip!  The thicker outer liner on the lower lash line also creates larger eye shape!

Why do we need to use a white liner on the inner corner of the eyes?  To brighten up the eyes and this trick helps in creating a wider and brighter eyes!

What did I use for the rest of my face?

For the Face
L'Egere BB Cream

Dusted Neutrogena Powder Foundation in Natural Beige
To set the BB cream

For the Cheeks:
Paul & Joe Limited Edition Disney
Face Color 002 Flower

 For the Lips:
Ivoluxe Lipstick in Flirt

You can do your own version by using dark lipstick for that ready-to-dance-the-night-away look!  I hope my simple tutorial helps!
(Note: Eye makeup darker in person)

What's your "eye makeup for monolids"?
I'd love to see it too!

Keep smilin'

Stay happy!
