Pros
  • does not weigh hair down
  • smells great
  • hair do not feel greasy the whole day
  • hair feels a bit fuller
  • works really well if you plan to do a "poufy" hairdo
  • one bottle lasts as a little amount is enough
Cons
  • not available locally and too expensive to have it shipped here
  • if your hair is not layered, you won't feel much of the volume
  • won't do anything for you if you're not into volumized hair
Overall

I don't have thin or thick hair to start with, my hair is just right.  But when I had my hair layered,  I've thought of giving this product a try and so far, it does enhance the look of the layers done by the stylist.  I am not into big hair though so I don't use this as much as I wanted to.  I've given this up to a friend of mine who has thin and limp hair.   She loves it and she told me she will repurchase via a friend in US.

This product in my opinion works for well anyone who wants a bit of volume without the weight or the greasiness.  I haven't seen any similar product locally or I may not be looking hard enough, but this is a product that works but I'm not a fan of it due to my personal reason of not liking the thick looking hair :)

Tips

From Nick Chavez
  • after shampooing, apply a dime-sized amount into palms, maassage into hair and leave in.
  • on dry hair, rub a dime-sized amount into palms and massage into hair and scalp, leaving product in hair.
  • before bed time, brush dry hair thoroughly, dispense a dime-size amount into palms of hands and massage into hair, do not rinse.
From AMW
  • use a pea sized amount only
  • test onto your hair which one works better, applied on wet hair, dry hair or before bedtime.  I like it applied on dry hair on my own experience.
  • if this product works for you, ask for a friend or relatives who live in the US to purchase this for you
  • try to avoid applying onto the root area, our humidity will weigh down our hair or make our hair looks greasy
Will I repurchase?
No, again, I'm not a "volume" person

Where to purchase and how much?

CVS website for $22.000 (approx Php1,012) for 8oz.

Are you into sleek, straight hair?
Or full wavy hair?
I'd go for any!  Depending on my mood :)

AMW Reviews: Nick Chavez Volumizing Extra Hold Hairspray + Meetup with Ai

Hair styling products like gel, mousse or hairspray are not interesting for me. I almost never use them except attending parties or special events. Why? I have several bad experiences using those sticky and drying products and I always ended up losing a couple of hair or even more!

I'm glad styling products nowadays are user friendly and environmental friendly! I'm glad its easier to choose products now based on your need. And a hairspray that's meant for hold, style and volume? Interesting ....

Nick Chavez Volumizing Extra Hold Hair Spray says ---

Fast-drying volumizing extra hold spray provides firm hold with a light mist; stronger control with more precise application; and extra support when concentrated in a particular area.

For All hair types, from fine to heavy, and from curly to textured.

Infusing hair with fabulous volume and fullness, the spray holds your style all day long while allowing your hair the freedom of movement without a stiff and tacky look or feel. Hair remains brushable for restyling and reholding. Botanical extracts add shine and Panthenol/ProVitamin B5 helps moisturize and control static as your hair resists humidity.

Ingredients

SD Alcohol 40, 1,1, Difluoroethane, Ethyl Ester of PVM/MA Copolymer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Phenyl Trimethicone, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Panthenol, Dimethyl Stearamine, Glycerin, Linoleamidopropyl Ethyldimonium Ethosulfate, Dimethyl Lauramine Isostearate, Lactamide MEA, PEG-75 Lanolin, Benzophenone-3, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Lawsonia Inermis (Henna) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hop) Extract, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Root Extract, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Fragrance (Parfum)"

AMW says ---

Pros
  • smells great
  • does not create "crunchy" hair
  • since it doesn't feel crunchy on hair, this product works great with heated tools
  • gives flexible hold
  • can easily comb out the hair without flakes
  • hair does not look "sprayed" or all made up, hair can still look naturally soft and shiny
Cons
  • cannot be purchased locally

Overall

It is a great hairspray, but I wouldn't go all the trouble to purchase it and wait for weeks for this to be shipped at my door step. I think there are other hairsprays that can do the same hold Nick Chavez gives but what I love about this product is how I can still brush my hair if I made a "spray" mistake and I won't have white flakes on my hair that looks like dandruff.

Another selling point about this hairspray is the "volumizing" factor it gives as compare to other hair sprays in the market. My mom uses hairspray each time she goes out as she has to spray her hair in place as her hair is fine and she needed the volume on the front area. I've given this to her as a gift and she loves it as the volume stays and it smells gorgeous!

Tips

from Nick Chavez
  • For volume - lift your hair and spray at the root area in short bursts. Then lightly mist your entire head to set.
  • To achieve an allover hold - spray in short bursts while holding the can eight to 12 inches from your hair.
  • To achieve a texturized look - spray and scrunch.
from AMW
  • use this to spray on curls directly to let the curls hold especially on humid weather like ours
  • want the sideways bangs? Spray this several inches away from the bangs
  • quickly blowdry the area that has been sprayed with the hairspray to hold the hair in place
  • if you have friends in the US? Ask them to help you purchase, they do come in great deals once in awhile
  • wash your hair after, never leave hair styling products onto hair for too long
Will I repurchase?

I think I can skip this one, there are other available hairsprays easily purchased locally that works as good.

Where to purchase and how much?

Nick Chavez website for $23.00 (approx Php1,100) for 10oz.
At QVC for $32.50 (approx Php 1,500) for 2 BOTTLES

Askmewhats Reviews: Nick Chavez Flocker

I have a thing for hair products recently, because I have a lot of reader questions on hair products I use. I don't use a lot of products on my hair, I usually go for hair care products rather than styling products. But because of my super layered cut courtesy of the wonderful Creative Director of Basement Salon, Shangri-La branch Mr. Jeave Gabiana, I know I must enjoy it while I can!

When I chanced up a brand called "Nick Chavez Beverly Hills", I got excited as Beverly Hills reminded me of "Beverly Hills 90210" and the series reminded me of beautiful ladies with wonderful hair! Now, I don't know if it's even related but that's how my mind flies! lol

Askmewhats says ---

Pros
  • non-sticky
  • does not feel heavy on hair
  • the volume came out naturally, like my hair is "newly" blow dried all day!
  • does not make my hair dry
  • my hair feels GORGEOUS!
  • the "volume" lasts the whole day
  • gives "volume" without using too much heat from blow dryers
  • very light to non-existent scent
Cons
  • not readily available locally, I'm not even sure it's readily available all over the US.
  • if you're not used to putting products on your hair, this may not be exciting for you

Overall

When I got the chance to try on the Nick Chavez Beverly Hills in the Bottle for their "Volumizing" line, The "Flocker" is the first product I tried right away as I've got super layered cut and I find it a bit hard to "showcase" it as I've got my hair chemically straightened almost a year ago so the wonderful cut won't show.

I started by "not reading instructions" by spraying it straight to my hair and I know there must be something wrong with what I do. So I've tried it again the second time, shaking the bottle first, spray the product on my hand then flipped my head upside down and scrunch the product near my roots. I just blowdried my hair the usual and "voila"! Volume that doesn't scream 80s!!!

I believe having volume can only happen by teasing and loads of hairspray, I am glad I only need to do that on special occasion and I can always achieve the "uplift" daily sans the hairspray! Of course, you have to keep in mind that if you want to achieve a really strong "pouf", nothing can replace a hairspray!

Tips
  • do not spray this directly onto hair, spray this onto the palm first, rub between your hands and gently massage this onto the "hair roots".
  • though this product is work-able on both wet and dry hair, I personally like working this on dry hair
  • start by using not too much and slowly add up, do not use too much as it could just cause product build up
  • new to their products? Try their value sets

Will I repurchase?

I'd love to! Especially for my kind of hair cut, this product is wonderful!

Where to purchase and how much?

Online store
USD20.00 (approx Php980.00) for 8oz.

The arrow pointing is the area I concentrated on the product, this hair do stayed the whole day! I only blowdried my hair with a round brush and used the "Flocker".

Something New: Hollywood in a Bottle by Nick Chavez

Aside from make-up or skincare, I'm also a fan of hair products because I've always been nosey with my hair! Yeah, it all started with hair!

I've always been a fan of long stick straight hair, but after my wonderful hair cut from Mr. Jeaves Gabiana of the Basement Salon Shangri-la Branch, my layers needed the "volume" and "lift" to see the overall look of my cut!

When I found out that there is one company who believe in gorgeous, shiny, candy-colored, sensuous beauty, high-volume hair for even the most quiet life. The company who wants us to get in touch with our true roots, find rich, bouncy fullness with the unmistakable Beverly Hills sensibility no matter who or where I am, that made me say "Hello..why not?" And that's from The Beverly Hills Salon in a Bottle.

Askmewhats Version: "Goddess" Look

Happy Monday! Start of the week, another look for you! I call this the "Goddess" look not because I am implying that I look like a goddess...yeah I wish! LOL I call this the Goddess Look because the main eyeshadow I used is called "Goddess" from the Urban Decay Book of Shadows which I got from my dearest friend Gracie!

Now I'm laughing, can you imagine if an eyeshadow is named "Paranoid"? And I'm calling the look "Paranoid" look, now that's fun!

The look I've created can be for day time or night time, you can add up the e/s to make it darker, it really depends on your comfort level and preferences!

Here's my creation

AMW Diagram

Step 1:
Prior to e/s application, apply your choice of eyelid primer. I am using Urban Decay's Primer Potion (UDPP).

Using an e/s brush, apply Goddess e/s from Urban Decay's Book of Shadow on the outer corner of the eye, blending inwards.

Step 2:

Using a small crease brush, gently apply Ulta's e/s in Turquoise on the inner thirds of the eye gently applying the inner thirds of the lower lashline too.

Step 3:

Gently pat on Ulta's e/s in Calla Lilly on the middle section of your eyelid.

Fun part? Use a bigger blending brush to gently blend in the harshlines. Do this gently so the e/s won't fall out.

Step 4:

Apply NYX's e/s in Skin on the browbone area going to the inner corner of the eye to blend in harshlines.

Step 5:

Line your upper lashline with Stila Smudgepots in Black using CS eyeliner brush.

Line the lower lashline and waterline with Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-on eyeliner in Zero.

Curl the lashes with your favorite lash curler
and apply 2 coats of Mascara

(Shu Uemura's Curler and Clinique's High Impact Mascara)

Goddess Eyes

On my face:

Primed my face with P&J Moisturizing Primer
I Nuovi Studio Cake Foundation in 3Y

Set the foundation with Joppa's Finishing Silk
in Original Formula Sheer

On my cheeks:

NYX Blush in Desert Rose
applied using MAC's 187 brush

On my lips:

MAC Viva Glam V
Lancome Juicy Wear Top Coat

Final Look

Someone asked me how I style my hair. On this FOTD, I blowdryed my hair and applied Hollywood in a Bottle by Nick Chavez Flocker to create volume! On most days, I just air dry my hair and apply serum!

Keep that smile comin'
Stay happy!
