Myra Holistic Skin Care

Yesterday, I've written in this post how I take care of my skin.
But of course, no matter how much we physically take care of our skin, if we don't do something from within, our efforts will be wasted.

And to get that effortless "lit form within" glow, Myra came up with the Holistic Skin Care approach which I totally believe in!  (The reason why I'm Blogging about this so passionately!)

First things first, I got this care package and totally get what message Myra is trying to send out.

To care of our skin from within, here's a simple checklist for you to keep in mind ---
  • Sleep - as much as I wanted to say sleeping 4 hours a day is enough, it isn't!  And it showed when I gave birth to Baby AMW!  My skin turned sallow and pimples are spurting out here and there.  True as they say that the entire body goes into a repair mode when we snooze, if we don't have enough sleep, well I guess it shows why my skin isn't as healthy as it used to be!
Tip from Myra: to make mornings less of a drag, try setting a wake-up time that's a multiple of 90 minutes.  This is the length of the average sleep cycle so you will wake up with beautiful morning!
  • Exercise - regular exercise DOES help score healthy skin!  I've been to the stage of being really active with both cardio workout and strength training and I remembered how my skin looked back then!  Exercise can definitely cleanse your skin from the inside!  So yes, I must not make an excuse on how busy my schedule is, I should squeeze in at least 15-30 minutes of exercise a day!
  • Hydrate - this has always been a "tested" secret in keeping skin healthy and glowing.  I sometimes finish a full work day without drinking a drop of water, I know that's bad so I'm definitely using the KOR bottle to remind me wherever I go to drink my needed amount of water!
  • Eat Well - Thankfully, this, I've been doing well!  If you follow me on Instagram, I cook our meals most of the time and I make sure to use fresh ingredients so we don't always settle for take-aways!
  • Take Vitamin E -  Vitamin E as it is rich in anti-oxidants which help boost my skin from within and it helps stop skin-damaging, free radicals from stealing life from my sales and best of all?  It helps repair damaged cells and works hard to protect the healthy ones!

AMW Reviews: MYRA VitaGlow BB Cream (Ivory)

Myra VITAGLOW, this particular located brand of tinted moisturizer won my heart 4 years ago and you may refer to my review HERE.  I also did a second post showing how this product worked even on my most grueling schedule as a makeup artist with no chance of retouch (post HERE).

And yes, I finished a tube of it!  When I received a press kit from our friends from Myra for their newest VITAGLOW BB Cream, it brought back good 'ol memories!  If I love the tinted moisturizer so much, the BB Cream could be as equally fine!  Or even better?  Are you excited to read my thoughts?

Well, just so you know, I was TOO EXCITED to try this product I forgot to take product shot and used it right away!  (Which rarely happens to me as I have strong self-control), so yes, this is a product photo taken from Myra!  And you'll see more personalized photos as you scroll down!  So bear with me please.

Myra says ---

  • It’s moisturizing. This lightweight cream hydrates your skin to keep it soft and supple.
  • It contains Vitamin E. This helps nourish your skin even more, so your complexion appears younger-looking and healthy.
  • It doubles as foundation. The tinted formula comes in two shades: Ivory and Beige, to help you even out your skintone perfectly and hide pigmentations.
  • It contains skin-enhancing minerals. Staying late at the office? Use this unique BB cream to add a natural, glowing finish to your skin! You’ll love how the subtle, light-reflecting shimmers in this cream will make you look like you’ve got a lit-from-within glow.
  •  You can use it as concealer. Just pat an extra layer of Myra VitaGlow BB Cream to camouflage dark spots and blemishes.
  •  It’s also has sunscreen. The SPF15 in this easy to bring tube will protect you from harmful UV rays that causes premature aging.
  •  It’s hypoallergenic. Girls with sensitive skin don’t need to worry about breakouts, because this dermatologist-tested cream is proven safe for daily use.
  •  It's the most affordable! There's no need to hesitate when it comes to purchasing this product, since you can score instant glowing skin for only P99 a tube. Such a great beauty steal!

Tip for the Day: Faking soft, dewy skin!

I have been requested so many times to do a tutorial on creating a fake "glowy", "bright" or "dewy" skin.  I know its easy for me to do such as I have dry skin to start with.  What about our oily gal friends out there?  I've thought of ways and finally done a very simple one that anybody of any age can do!

Keep in mind that practice makes perfect, it helps to try out different products and see which works best for you!  In this tutorial, I am using the simplest and most effective way to date!  Believe it or not, I'm still on trial and error and will definitely share again if I've found a better way.  For now, lets settle for this...shall we begin?

Sorry but there's no other better model than myself!  I can't seem put myself out there and randomly ask for people willing to be my model! *hahaha*  So please do not get tired of my face okay?  If you do...hmm...come here..want cookies? :P

Step 1:
  • I moisturized my skin with a light moisturizer.  Oily-skinned individuals can go for oil-free moisturizer.
  • Once the moisturizer sets in.  I used a brightening face primer from Benefit's That Gal(Other alternatives to try: your choice of sparkly BB cream, tinted moisturizer like Myra Vitaglow Tinted Moisturizer)
  • With my Charm stippling brush, I applied a light liquid foundation (like that from Revlon's Photoready Foundation or Paul & Joe Cream Foundation) applying only on areas that needed coverage).
Step 2:
Oily-skinned individuals complain about their face oiling up in no time.  Pick up your favorite oil-control setting powder.  In my case, I am using the Majolica Majorca Pressed Pore Cover  picking up a bit of the product with a K-brush or any powder brush, pat ONLY on areas that oil up (ex. t-zone, sides of the nose) and leave the rest as it is!  Oh, it helps to keep on "pressing" the brush with a bit of the powder on those oily areas and it'll help absorb excess moisture and oil.

Do not forget to bring your favorite oil control films.

Step 3:
Look inside your makeup kit for highlighting powders.  They usually come together with a contouring powder.  If you don't have any, no need to purchase.  Look into your eyeshadow collection and search for a semi-sparkly eyeshadow (can be pressed or loose) that works on your inner corner of the eyes or on the browbone.  If the shade works on those areas, you can use this to highlight your face!

In this tutorial, I am using Bourjois Pastel Lumiere Pearl Eyeshadow in Beige Rose.  The name has rose to it but it is not pinkish at all!

I do own a couple of highlighting powders like the one from Paul & Joe or another white eyeshadow shade from my Eyeko Pretty Eyes Palette.  Be creative and experimental!  What's the worse that could happen?  If all else fails, you can wash your face!
Step 4:
To make your "highlighted" and "dewy"-looking face more obvious, its best to use a bronzer as a blush!  This gives out a super natural, healthy glow!  At the same time, the "glow" from the bronzer can help make your face looks "fresh" and "dewy" at the same time!

Added tips:
  • Other people would use Petroleum jelly and apply it on parts of the face to create that "dewy-ness".  In my opinion,  I'd rather have you skip it the tip stated is applicable for countries with winter season!
  • If you over applied your powder, fret not, have your moisturizing facial mist ready and spritz all over your face and leave it to dry on its own!  It does not only help set your makeup but it makes your skin look and feel fresh!
  • I forgot to take a shot of it, but to add up the "dewy" look, skip heavy lipstick and moisturize your lips with your preferred lip balm and top with a super wet-looking gloss!  (local readers would know this brand but Fashion 21 makes super nice fruity scented clear gloss for less than Php100 and it tastes so good!)

AMW Revisits: Myra VitaGlow Tinted Moisturizer

I have been using Myra VitaGlow Tinted Moisturizer for the past 3 weeks, I've put this product to test and I want to give this a revisit for readers to know how I am doing with the said product!  (Click HERE to read the review)

My skin condition:
  • normal/dry combination - normal on the T-zone area and dry on the cheeks and chin area
  • sensitive, tends to get rashes easily if a product does not work for me
  • breaks out at least once or twice a month on the chin and forehead area
To those who knew me personally would know that I'm not the type who would take more than 30 minutes to dress up!  Time is so important for me that I move around pretty fast and spending long time in front of the mirror is never an option for me!  That's why I use products that have additional benefits rolled into one!

With Myra VitaGlow
AMW says ---
  • My skincare routine was cut in half.  I can skip on sun block on days I know I won't be under the sun for too long.
  • My skin has a lovely glow that does not look "oily".
  • On a good skin day, I can skip foundation application and set the tinted moisturizer with a translucent powder.
  • I can also skip concealer as this product has some light to medium coverage
  • I use Myra VitaGlow as a highlighter.  Apply extra on areas like the bridge of my nose, under the eye, and chin area for that instant glow.
Recently, I was really busy with a shoot!  Getting ready for the shoot isn't as easy as you think.  Waking up at 3:30am for a 5:00am call time was challenging!  After taking a quick shower, I did not have enough time to apply on the usual skincare and makeup routine so I just applied on Myra VitaGlow Tinted Moisturizer and my trustee lip balm and I was off for the busy day!  The rest of the day, I was on the move!  Changing makeup for each scene,  plus helping the wardrobe staffs with the costumes left me no time to even think about how I look!  It was going in and out of the air conditioned room and not to forget, the touch-ups I had to do for the models outdoor!

After the grueling "almost 24 hours" shoot, I had a picture taken with Abby (wardrobe assistant) at around 1:30am.  I've had one touch-up after lunch for the rest of this day and so far, I don't look like trash at all!

AMW Tips ---
  • You can always apply moisturizer on drier areas of your face!  In my case, I apply extra moisturizer on the cheeks and chin where it usually gets dry.
  • Myra VitaGlow Tinted Moisturizer is applied after your skincare routine.
  • After application, I suggest letting it sit for a minute or two before you apply your favorite powder foundation or mineral foundation.  Having the Tinted Moisturizer settled down looks way better.
  • Always apply with your clean hands.
I'm glad to share discoveries like this that's inexpensive and worth the price we pay!
Let me know if you have further queries!

AMW Reviews: Myra VitaGlow

Tinted moisturizers are slowly getting its fame because of the "no make-up" look that everyone's been sporting nowadays. Gone are the days of heavy foundation, with the "El Nino" phenomenon, it is but practical to apply lesser products especially on your face!

What's a Tinted Moisturizer?

A tinted moisturizer in simpler term is a combination of foundation and  moisturizer.  Unlike foundation, they come in smaller range of shades as they generally are sheer and build-able!

Unlike the simpler formulations of tinted moisturizers made in the past (in which I thought the products are only for immortals), companies nowadays are listening to the  needs of the consumers thus improving formulations made for our needs!

Remember my post on Vitamin E a couple of days ago?  I had fun reading comments from my readers and a lot of you commented on how great Myra VitaGlow tinted moisturizer is.  I got intrigued and I did not hesitate to give this product its well deserved road test!

Myra VitaGlow says ---
Myra VitaGlow Tinted Facial Moisturizer is the latest addition to the Myra cosmetics line.  This amazing product rolls 6 beauty benefits in one tube: it can serve as your moisturizer, make-up base/foundation, concealer, sunscreen, contains minerals for that glowing finish and has Vitamin E to nourish skin.

AMW says ---

Pros
  • I can skip on moisturizer as this product is moisturizing enough for my dry/combination skin.
  • Has added  benefits of sun protection, Vitamin E and minerals.
  • Works as good makeup base, my powder foundation stays longer and the number of times I retouch throughout the day is lessened.
  • No allergies or skin irritations occur once I started using this product.
  • Scent is not overpowering.
  • Does not feels sticky or heavy on skin
  • Has a nice glowing finish that doesn't look shiny or oily
  • Has SPF 15 for that extra sun protection
  • If applied alone: Gives a light coverage.
  • If applied together with liquid/powder foundation: Gives a medium to heavy coverage
  • Can minimize the darkness of my under eye circles and redness at the sides of the nose.
  • Packaging is great, easy to tote along.

  • The "tint" does not create a white cast on photos.
  • Comes in 2 shades (Ivory and Beige) - most tinted moisturizers come in one shade only. Color blended well on my skin.
  • Very affordable (Php135.00 only!)
Cons
  • not all skin types would work well with having an "extra step" on your routine
  • some who are used to higher SPF may find SPF15 not enough for them, I was told though that SPF15 is enough for daily use, the higher the SPF may cause product to feel sticky on skin.
Overall
It's a bit difficult to purchase a good tinted moisturizer that does not break the bank!  I am glad Myra was able to come up with such product with a lot of added benefits!  I found myself reaching out to this daily and dusting off with my favorite setting powder!  Prep time in the morning is cut in half!!!

Tips
  • Start to apply sparingly, applying too much may feel heavy on skin
  • If you have super sensitive skin: test on the product below the ear and leave it overnight to see if skin irritations or reactions occur
  • Application technique: can be applied with fingers, sponge or foundation brush (whichever you're most comfortable with)
  • Make sure to apply with sanitized tools and fingers!
  • If you find Ivory or Beige is a bit too light on you and you are on a darker skin tone, dust with a loose or pressed powder that's a shade darker than your skin (Perfect if you purchase a wrong shade in the past, time to bring it out!)
  • Ivory suits people with lighter skin tone and Beige suits those with yellow undertone

Will I repurchase?
Give me some more time, I'll be doing a revisit a couple of weeks after and I'll let you know if there are any changes after longer usage.

Where to purchase and how much?
At leading groceries, department stores and drugstores for Php135.00 (approx $3.00) for 35ml tube

Photo Time!

"Vitamin E for the Skin?"

"AskMeWhats" as I call this blog, get a lot of queries from readers daily.  I don't mind though, I actually love interacting with readers sharing my thoughts and ideas at the same time, learning a lot from them as well.

Daily questions and topics were thrown at me even about TVCs!  (TV Commercials).  I got a couple of reader questions asking me if I've tried the new Myra Facial Moisturizer and Hand and Body Lotion because it was endorsed by none other than FHM's Sexiest Woman Ms. Angel Locsin.  I had to search for the commercial on YouTube to watch the said commercial.  Click HERE to watch and click photo below to enlarge.

 **photo taken from website

The well-directed commercial was said to be shot at "The Lakeshore" Mexico, Pampanga - a nice province several hours away from Manila.  The scene wherein actor Mr. Luis Manzano sighs on missing Angel's "healthy, beautiful, youthful-looking skin" is a smart idea!   Can't blame him, her skin is absolutely gorgeous in this commercial!  The direction of this commercial is a very clever as the two endorsers, who used to be "real-life-couple", yearns for each other and coming to terms with the break-up.  (Nikki on gossip mode) *laughs*

Myra has a famous tag line: "Discover Youthful Beauty, inside and out, only with Myra".  You know how yours truly believe in inner beauty.  However, let's face the fact that the environment around us is harsh to our skin, thus outer beauty needs to be taken care off!  By the way, do you still remember Ms. Judy Ann Santos' commercial on Myra400E?

 **photo taken from website
I guess the company has this big campaign on Youthful Beauty IN and OUT.  Inner beauty with Myra400E and Outer beauty with Myra Facial Moisturizer and Hand and Body Lotion.  Am I smart for figuring this out?  I'm not, I just read it somewhere!  *hahaha*

I haven't tried Myra but I'm not foreign on the said Vitamin.  Let me share something...

**photo from source

Years ago, I love working out.  Working out for me is doing 1.5 hours  aerobics  exercise plus an hour of weight training five times a week.  I guess that's where all my energy came from. I was on the roll!  My gym instructor once came up to  me  and advised me to take Vitamin E supplement.  I did  my research and I followed his advise after learning that Vitamin E is vital to protect our cell membranes keeping them healthy.  To make it simpler, Vitamin E can actually help preserve red blood cells in the body.  Higher red blood cell count means more energy and stamina for us to keep on working out thus making us look and feel healthy and young!

With the said benefit I am not surprised when Vitamin E are added to skin care products like lotions and creams because the said ingredient was said to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles thus a good source of anti-aging because of its antioxidant activity!

To answer my reader query.  No, I have not tried the Myra skincare line.  However, it does not hurt to give it a try as early as NOW!

Anyone who have tried the new Myra Facial Moisturizers and Myra Hand and Body Lotion?
Would you care to share to us your experience?
Let's help out our readers!  Thanks in advance!
