How To: Special Events Make Up

Hi AMW Friends!  This post will be full of AMW photos so please bear with me!  As much as I would love to lessen the products I used, well, for the first time in AMW history, I think I used more than 10 products!  Well, forgive me for such tedious tutorial because I was requested to do a Special Events Make Up and when it comes to special events, we do need a lot of help to make us look like the better version of ourselves!  Right?

Well, before I proceed with my make up "photo-torial", I want to say, today is my Mom's birthday!!!  And I am feeling generous today by awarding my top commenter "rhaindropz"!  You can see her name popping on my top commenter list on the right hand side!  So Rhaindropz, if you are reading this, comment below and tell me you won together with your full name and mailing address!  I'll message you personally on what I will send you!  It's worth it I promise you!

Now back to the tutorial....here's my version of Special Events Make Up!

And if you find something different with my photo, well, you are right!  I am finally wearing contacts after so many years!  (Posts HERE and HERE)

And I'm loving the new contact lens brand I'm wearing  because it looks way more natural than the Korean Lenses I've tried!
AMW Wore: Air Optix Lens in Sterling Gray
Initial thoughts: Feels very comfortable to wear and I definitely love the effect of Sterling Gray on me!  I can't wait to try out  more colors!

If like me, you plan to wear contact lens, please wear them before you do your make up!

Base: Yadah Twin Angel BB Cream
This Yadah BB Cream in shade 3 (darkest shade I believe) is still too light on me.  But, I didn't worry about this because I will be using powder foundation and contour powder to adjust the shade!  I like this BB cream so far and will share my review soon!

Brows: K-Palette 1-Day Tattoo Lasting 2 Way Eyebrow in Shade 02
Because I want my eyes to be the focal point (not brows), I did soft-looking brows instead of the usual strong and thick brows!

Eyelid Primer: Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic
This is a waterproof Glide-on eyeshadow that can be worn alone or as eyeshadow base.  I chose to do the latter because I want heavier eye make up look perfect for days you want to grab attention at the same time, would still look good on photos.

Apply all over the lid and outer lower-lashline.  Do not worry about the obvious marks because we'll blend it out later on.

Eyeshadow: Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow in Black 17
When it comes to special events or night time make up, we are always tempted to pick a matte black shadow!  In my case, I want to create vavavoom eye make up but on a more softer level!  So I picked a sparkly black shadow because it won't make you look like a panda and the effect is more classy!

Apply using a small pencil brush for more definition, then use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend out harsh edges.  You may add on pigmentation as you go forward.  Don't forget to step back and look at your reflection.  Less is always more.

Additional pop from: Make up For Ever Artist Shadow in D-410
Or just pick any sparkly gold or silver eyeshadow!  I picked gold because I have warm skintone.  (If silver accessories look better on you, you may pick a silver shadow for this step!)

Using a flat shader brush, I used this to apply at the center of my lids and blend out again using the same fluffy shadow brush I used above.

Eyeliner: Etude House Proof 10 Gelquid Liner
When it comes to precision, a liquid liner is still the best choice!  But if you don't want the messy application, you may want to try Etude House's newest Proof10 Gelquid Liner.  A liquid liner with gel-like finish!  It dries up less than a minute and the brush is amazing!

I did a tiny wing because I have droopy eyes!  (Tip: A little wing to give your droopy eye an instant lift!)

Never apply liquid liner on the lower lash line, instead, pick your "most waterproof, smudge-proof" pencil.  For this tutorial, I picked Make Up For Ever eyeliner pencil in black.  You may opt for a black or gray colored pencil depending on your preference.  If you are doing special events makeup, skip those brown and natural-looking liners!

Clean and Conceal: Ben Nye Conceal-A-Wheel
The reason why I never used any concealer or foundation prior to my eyeshadow application is because of the mess I create during eyeshadow application.  If you are doing heavy eye makeup, it is best to do the "clean-up" after!  Here, I concealed dark undereye and eyeshadow pigments using my favorite Ben Nye concealer.

You may also choose to highlight the rest of your face with the lighter concealer shade.

Highlight: Revlon Highlighting Palette in Bronze Glow
I featured this product HERE as one of my favorite blush and guess what?  This is indeed a good choice as this works not only as a blush but an eyeshadow!  I used the lightest shade to highlight the inner corner of my eyes.

If you are going for dark eyeshadow look, never forget the "highlight" to keep your eyes looking fresh and alive!

OPTIONAL but COOL TO ADD!  False Lashes from Bohk Toh
And I found a lash applicator that works for falsies wearer (first time or pros!)  The Bohk Toh lashes I used is in J-202.  A bit wild for first timers but great on photos!  You can pick their other styles for more natural look!

Eye Make Up : DONE!  Now on to the rest of my face!

Set with Powder Foundation: Happy Skin Don't Get Mad Get Even (review HERE, can purchase HERE)
For extra coverage, always pick powder foundation.  I used a Charm Flat Brush and apply with stippling motion.

If you have oily skin or combination skin:  Use Etude House Zero Sebum
I surprisingly have normal or oily t-zone so I usually set with a tiny amount of Zero Sebum powder which helps control oil!
If you have extremely oily skin, you may pat this product all over your face and take this with you wherever you go for retouch.

D
Contour and Highlight: Happy Skin Feeling Sculptacular Face Contour Kit (review HERE)
This is NON-OPTIONAL on special events make up or when you know you will be photographed!  Use a powder foundation 2-3 shades darker for contour and 1-2 shades lighter as highlighter.

If you don't want to worry about color matching/shade matching, pick this Face Contour Kit!  I love this!
Now let's all sing: "Dab, dab dab!"

Blush: ARTDECO Bronzing Glow Blusher
I want my face to look "warm",natural and healthy!  I picked a Bronzer instead of the usual pinks, orange or peach blush for a very healthy and natural look.

I like applying starting from the apples of my cheeks going outward towards the hairline.

Lipstick that Lasts: Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge shade 23
If you are off to an important event or special event.  It is very important you wear long-lasting lip color.  Why?  Who wants to sip on champagne or eat dinner with friends and have to excuse themselves every now and then to go to the washroom for lipstick retouch?

NOT ME!

Thankfully, I found a long-lasting, long-wearing, smudge-proof lip product without the dryness!  Will do an in-depth review on this next time IF you want me to! :D

My final look!

Hope you like this!
Tell me your other Look Request and I'll try to accommodate it as quickly as I can!

How do you do your special events make up?

Keep smilin'
Stay happy!
