AMW Version: Happy Heart's Month Look

Happy Wednesday AMW Friends!
Today, as promised, I will be sharing an "AMW Version" post a.k.a. step-by-step makeup tutorial as inspired by the "Heart's Month".  I've created day time and night time Valentine's day look on my last post using L'Oreal Color Riche lipsticks and the night time looks won with a landslide!  I guess you guys are tired seeing me in neutral looks huh? Well, all your wishes are my command!  Thanks for emailing me your requests and I'll try my best to do more looks and more tutorials!

Here's how it looks like when I'm doing the "dramatic" look *lol*

Tip for the Day: How to Apply Mascara on (Non-existent) Lower Lashes

Hi AMW friends!  I am sharing a short post but loaded with tips and tricks!
Do you have non-existent lashes like I do?  Girls who were born with long and luscious lashes, I will understand if you leave!  *laughs*

Well, HELLO fellow short and sparse lashes!  There's a reason why you're still reading this!  *high five*

Let me clarify that I seldom apply mascara on the lower lashes as I have NONE!  Or maybe, I have some but you can literally count them and you won't exceed 20! *lol*  But, on shoots or when I need to have my photograph taken, I like to "amplify" the look of having lower lashes even a bit and I find using the mascara brush in application gives me the headache (and a lot of smudges and clumps!)

SEE?

So here's a quick tip that I do, there are many other ways to apply mascara on your lower lashes but I find this tip that I'll be sharing to you the quickest, and the effect is really natural!  Are you ready?

AMW Reviews: FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Waterproof Type

I am one strong advocate of: "If a mascara is non-waterproof, it's not worth purchasing if you're living in the Philippines!"

But it wasn't long ago that I got hold on to my newest Fairydrops Platinum Mascara Film Type - Water Resistant  which turned out to be on top of my list!  (Read review HERE Though the said mascara never smudge on me for the past months, I would still feel a bit hesitant to recommend this to girls with highly oily lids!

Guess what?  A waterproof version is finally here in Manila!  *drops down on both knees and thank the heavens*

The Waterproof version is housed in a similar packaging to that of the Water-Resistant tube with the same 3 teardrop shaped curved wand!
FairyDrops says ---
    • A do-it-all fiber mascara gies you doll like lashes + treatment
    • Contains Volume Up Powder, Wax and Fiber and 5 kinds of treatment essence of beautify and repair eyelashes.
    • Hydrolyzed Collagen, Squalene, Sodium Hyaluronate, Jojoba Seed Oil and Pantehnol: retains moisture, softens, hydrates and adds volume to lashes.
    • All day curl, smudge proof and yet easily removed with cleansing oil and water.
    • Lashes feel soft to touch.  No to brittle feeling lashes.
    AMW says ---
    Pros
    • Cute packaging.
    • No need to curl my lashes as it gives an instant "lift" to my short and sparse lashes.
    • Clump-free.
    • Gives the desired amount of length I want in a mascara.
    • Coats each lash strand thus showing a bit of volume.
    • Easy to remove with regular eye makeup remover or cleansing oil.
    • Though formulation is waterproof, doesn't dry out or create "crunchy lashes" effect.

    Cons
    • Due to my low IQ, I tend to get confused with the waterproof and water-resistant version!  Maybe the obvious change of color is better for low memory gals like ME :P
    Overall
Easy to use fiber mascara that coats each lash strand thus giving extra length and volume.  The waterproof formulation is indeed waterproof that lasts the whole day even with some rubbing!  It can be easily removed by regular eye makeup remover at the end of the day.

    Tips
    • Since this product is made waterproof, it is best to wipe off excess mascara with a gentle eye makeup remover prior to washing your face.
    • For better look of your lashes, curl them prior to mascara application.
    • If your lids aren't as oily, go for the water-resistant version as it gives "breathing space" for your lashes.
    • If most mascaras tend to smudge or transfer on you, purchase the waterproof version.
    Will I repurchase?
Yes, for clients!  As for personal use, I prefer the water-resistant version.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Mascara users who have very oily lids.

Where to purchase and how much?
Fairydrops is available in the Philippines exclusive through the Beauty Bar stores (Trinoma, Rockwell, Greenbelt, Shangri-La, Eastwood, Galleria, Gateway, ATC, Podium, MOA, Lucky Chinatown, Midtown, Bonifacio High Street, Cebu and soon to open Magnolia) for Php1,195.00 (approx $29.87).

    Photos

Cute packaging similar to most Fairydrops products

Simple Diagram instructions on how to use the Fairydrops Platinum Mascara

    Front view
The mascara doesn't only give length and volume to my lashes, it gives a nice "eyeliner" effect as well as I apply the mascara close to my lash line.

    Top View

The added length is quite obvious in this angle.  This photo shows how this mascara is 100% clump-free no matter how many times I re-apply the mascara.

    Side View
I did not curl my lashes in the before photo to show how the mascara itself can "lift" my lashes without the use of eyelash curler!  This is a great mascara for people on travel who are lazy to take with them their eyelash curler!

Difference of Water-resistant and Waterproof Platinum Mascara
Water-resistant comes in silver tube packaging (left facing you) while Waterproof version comes in Light Metallic Pink packaging (right facing you)

Given the chance to choose, would you go for the water-resistant or waterproof?  Why?
For daily use, I'd go for the water-resistant version to give my lashes room to breathe.  For very special occasions or when I know I'll be exposed under the sun or I'll be sweating like a pig, I'll probably reach out for the waterproof version!

AMW Reviews: Fairydrops Creamy Treatment Base Mascara

For someone who has non-existent lashes, using falsies is the best way for more defined eyes but I prefer not to use this  method on a daily basis as I love my existing lashes, I want to enhance what I have and of course, protect them while I can!

One of my recent favorite mascara brand Fairydrops came up with a Creamy Treatment Base.  Hailed as a lash base that protects your lashes from mascara application with extra "fibers" that could increase volume/length, who can say NO to that?

Fairydrops Creamy Treatment Base Mascara comes with unique 3 teardrop mascara wand patented in Japan and USA.  This patented wand makes my mascara application fun!  (Check review on Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara Waterproof and Fairydrops Platinum Mascara Film Type Water Resistant)

    Fairydrops says ---
Pearl gray color won’t look too obvious (compared to white colored mascara base) if some lashes are missed during mascara application

Can also be used as a base for waterproof mascara. If applied before the waterproof mascara, one can easily remove the waterproof mascara with lukewarm water.
Has a light Sexy Vanilla scent.

    Ingredients:

    AMW says ---
    Pros
    • Super cute packaging!  I love that the Creamy Treatment Base Mascara comes in white tube making it easier for me to spot inside my makeup case.
    • The fiber shade is gray so even with uneven mascara application, it won't be obvious you have a base underneath like most white colored mascara base.
    • Has a faint vanilla scent but not too much.
    • Does a great job in adding thickness to my lashes.
    • Works well especially on my bottom lashes.  I can't seem to use regular mascara on my bottom lashes but I can with Fairydrops Creamy Treatment Base Mascara.
    • Makes waterproof mascaras easier to remove with the base underneath.
    • Doesn't stiffen my lashes.
    • Has 5 treatment ingredients claiming to retain moisture, soften, hydrate and add volume to lashes.
    • Hard-to-remove mascaras are easier to remove with this base underneath.
    Cons
    • Can't tell regarding the treatment as of this early stage.
    • May clump if not applied properly.
    • May weigh down curl.
    Overall
I love the shiny gray-colored base as I don't have to end up going out with white lashes.  The fiber gives extra volume and length.  The treatment base from the brand helps treat your lashes at the same time protect it from constant waterproof mascara usage which could dry and weaken our lashes.

    Tips
    • Curl your lashes before applying the Fairydrops Creamy Treatment Base mascara.
    • To keep the curls from weighing down at the end of the day, apply maximum of 2 coats of mascara!
    • Try combining the Fairydrops Creamy Treatment Base Mascara with various mascara brands and see which one gives the best result.  As for me, I enjoy using this with my K-Palette Tattoo Mascara.
    • Be very careful with application to keep the fibers from getting into your eyes.
    Will I repurchase?
    Yes.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Daily mascara wearers who likes the treatment and protection.

Where to purchase and how much?

Available in all Beauty Bar stores for Php795.00 (approx $19.88)LIKE FairyDrops Philippines on Facebook for more product updates.

    Photos

The usual gorgeous packaging you get each time you buy something from Fairydrops.

Clear diagram on how to use the mascara base.

A closer look on the treatment base.
You can see fibers and the shade is in gray which works so well on our natural lashes.

I like looking straight and gently wiggle the lash wand starting from the roots to the tips.  Re-application maybe needed depending on how much of the creamy treatment base you want.  Apply both upper and lower lashes.

    Front view after application
Looking close, you can see some fibers extending the length of my lashes in a very subtle way.

The fibers blend into my lashes making it look very natural, I can even leave home without applying mascara on top.

    Side View

Are you currently using a mascara base?
    If yes, which brand?

I am currently enjoying my Fairydrop Creamy Treatment Base Mascara because it gives a very natural effect.  I like the fact that my lashes are soft and waterproof mascaras are easier to remove at the end of the day!

AMW Reviews: Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream in Light Ochre

Mark this day!  Today, I will be sharing a review on my top BB cream to date!  Long time AMW readers would know how much I love my Skin 79 VIP Gold BB Cream and I finished up 3 huge bottles of it and I am currently on my 4th and last bottle!  As I was juggling my brain on what to do next since I don't have stocks left for my favorite BB Cream, look what I've found!  The newest BB Cream that I love and seriously can't believe it jumped up to AMW's No. 1 BB Cream spot!

Based from research, Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream is a Japanese brand produced by Mayumi Yasutomo, a newscaster, who desired to have a product that will make her skin looks flawless on camera!

    Fairy Drops says ---
    • Makes skin look flawless even while on camera with 5 treatment essences.
    • 5 kinds of treatment essence to moisturize and for healthy glowing skin: Hydrolyzed Collagen, Squalane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Jojoba Seed Oil and Panthenol.
    • Oil-free, waterproof and lightweight formula.
    • Has micro-gold pearls that hide scars and freckles, diffuses light to hide wrinkles and smoothens and softens skin.
    • No SPF.  SPF gives off a white cast when one is photographed.
    • Doesn't look flat on skin.
    Shades: Light Ochre and Ochre
    Ingredients:

    AMW says ---
    Pros
    • Super cute and unique BB Cream packaging.
    • The sponge that comes with it makes it easy to apply during travel.
    • Sponge gives "even" coverage.
    • The formulation is very light.
    • Oil-free yet not drying.
    • Gives a good coverage without white cast.  It covered the red spots on my face and minimized the darkness of my under eye circles.
    • I can get away with using only this product and set with a powder.
    • My skin looks flawless and clean for the whole day no matter how busy I was running errands.
    • Doesn't transfer on clothing.
    • No gray cast.
    Cons
    • Only 2 shades available.
    • Price.  This BB cream is lesser in amount as compared to other BB creams. (But personally speaking, it's super WORTH it!)
    • Lacks SPF (as compared to other pricey BB Creams) but I guess it's a huge reason why this BB Cream doesn't create white cast on flash photography.
    Overall
The Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream has a good amount of coverage, it can cover a bit of my under eye darkness and redness.  The product is lightweight and can last the whole day with very minimal retouch.

    Tips
    • Light Ochre is best used if you are MAC NC20-25.  Ochre is a ta bit darker.
    • If you really LOVE to try this BB Cream but think both shades available won't match, you can always adjust the shade by using a darker or lighter powder foundation to "set" the BB Cream.
    • For fuller coverage, use the sponge application and apply it in a quick, patting motion.
    • For quick application, squeeze out the product at the back of your hand and apply using your fingers or foundation brush.
    • Wash the sponge regularly to prevent bacteria buildup.
    • For lesser makeup application finish off by concealing areas that needs to be concealed and set with powder   Lesser amount of makeup applied will let our skin breathe.
    • Apply face sunblock prior to BB Cream application.
    • Skip sunblock application if you will be photographed on that day.
    • Very dry skin individuals needs to apply more moisturizer on dry areas prior to BB Cream application.
    • For very oily skinned individuals, a good oil-control primer may still be needed underneath.
    • Once signs of irritations occur, STOP product usage.
    Will I repurchase?
    Yes!

To whom do I recommend this to?

Normal, combination, dry or oily skinned individuals.

Where to purchase and how much?

Available in all Beauty Bar stores for Php1,550.00 (approx $37.00)LIKE FairyDrops Philippines on Facebook for more product updates.

    Photos

The back side of the packaging.
Everything was written in Japanese but good thing ingredients list are in English.

    Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream
comes in a squeeze-type tube with detachable sponge applicator.

    Upon unscrewing the sponge applicator
This gives a nice control on the amount of product you need.
Some people prefer to squeeze a good amount of product at the back of the hand and dab on the sponge for an even application.

While others may prefer to squeeze the BB Cream directly while sponge applicator is attached.  It all boils down to your personal preference.

I like applying this BB Cream with a quick dabbing motion then gently blend out "obvious" edges with clean fingers.

    Half face application
Left side (facing you): applied moderate amount of Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream
Right side (facing you): no makeup at all.
I picked the day I had the least sleep in my entire life for my eyebags to look like that!  I have insomnia since I got pregnant and this photo was taken with only 3 hours of sleep. (Note: I just applied the product directly from tube and didn't get to blend out the harsh edges with my fingers yet to show you the area where I applied the BB cream.)

Before and after photo taken under natural light
Left photo: Clean face without a trace of makeup.
Right photo: With Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream in Light Ochre applied moderately.
Observations: Check how the darkness under the eye were lightened and my face looks more even as the redness around the cheeks and chin were completely covered.

A closer look on Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream applied all over
I am using Light Ochre shade which works so well on MAC NC20-25 skin.
Ochre would probably go well for MAC NC30-35.

Have you tried Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream or other Japanese made BB Creams?
What are your experience?  Do you like Korean or Japanese BB Creams?

As for me, this is my first Japanese BB Cream and I'm very happy with the experience.  I may have found the best BB Cream for me (for now) but I'm still willing to give other BB creams a try because...just because I'm curious like that! :)

AMW Reviews: Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara (Waterproof)

Since my last review on the Fairydrops Platinum Mascara Film-Type Water-Resistant early this month, I got emails from readers telling me how much they wanted to try the said mascara but are scared because they prefer waterproof version.

Today, I finally got the chance to review the Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara in waterproof version and I hope this post will make it easier for you to decide which Fairydrops mascara to purchase!

This mascara has been raved worldwide because of its lightweight wax and fiber and how it can survive strong humidity!  (hello fellow Asian countries!)

    Fairydrops says ---
    • Contains Volume Up Powder, wax and Fiber to make "volume burst" in one coat to give you lush, doll-like lashes.
    • All day curl, smudge proof and yet easily removed with cleansing oil.
    • Lashes feel soft to touch.  No to brittle feeling lashes.
    Ingredients:

    AMW says ---
    Pros
    • Packaging is LOVE!
    • Fancy 3 teardrop mascara wand is cute and easy to reach even short lashes.
    • The formulation is just right, not too wet nor dry.
    • Lightweight formula, doesn't weight my lashes down.
    • Dries quickly upon application.
    • Waterproof, tear-proof, morning sickness proof!  *lol*
    • No flaking.
    • The length it gives to my lashes is amazing!
    • Gives a good definition on each lash hair.
    • Lashes don't have the "crunchy-feel".
    Cons
    • If you are lazy in removing eye makeup, this mascara isn't for you!  The waterproof formulation needs extra care in removal.  (Either eye makeup remover or cleansing oil.)
    • Price.  (This is more inexpensive than the film type mascara but still, some people wouldn't dare spend more than Php500.00 for mascaras.)
    • Could make your lashes clump if NOT applied properly.
    • Difficult to purchase especially for our international readers.
    Overall
Contains fiber which can increase length and volume of lashes.

    Tips
    • Take a bit of time in application as the fibers could get into your eyes and it's a huge OUCH!
    • I did try this mascara upto 3 coats but 2 is enough.  Applying too much may make your lashes look unnatural and too "separated".
    • Though this mascara can be used without curling your lashes, I prefer to have your lashes curled to have a better effect.
    • DO NOT share the same mascara wand.
    • Always start from the roots of your lashes and gently curl up.
    Will I repurchase?
Yes, for clients!  For personal use, I prefer the Fairydrops Platinum Mascara Film-Type Water Resistant as it is easier to remove plus I don't oil up as much on the eye area.

To whom do I recommend this to?
Girls who are more comfortable using waterproof mascaras.

Where to purchase and how much?
Available at all Beauty Bar stores nationwide for Php950.00 (approx $22.62) or online via shop.beautybar.com.ph.   LIKE FairyDrops Philippines on Facebook for more product updates.

    Photos

Description and product information are in Japanese but ingredients list are in English.
The diagram is easy to understand.

    The gorgeous whimsical packaging!
It is very easy to spot this inside my kit.

     Unique 3 Teardrop Mascara Wand
    Patented in Japan and USA.

    Application technique - AMW style
Some people prefer to use the mascara as it is even without curling.  As for me, I prefer to curl my lashes first, use the 3 teardrop wand to catch my short and sparse lashes and gently wiggle it all the way up.

     Front view
Most of the time, even with coats of mascara, you won't see my lashes in front view!  As for the Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara, you can immediately see my lashes peeking through.  (It's not a lot but its a huge difference for me!)

    On a different angle
The Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara may be named after the way it can volumize lashes, as for my personal experience, it gives me a good amount of length!  See how long my lashes look in the before and after photo below.

    Side View
Because Fairydrops Volume Burst Mascara has fibers in it, it coats each strand of my lash hair giving it a more defined, darker lashes effect.

Have you checked out Fairydrops mascaras in local Beauty Bars?
Which Fairydrops mascara is your favorite?

Would you include this in your Christmas Wishlist?

As of the moment, the film-type is my favorite but this goes to my list of "will recommend" mascaras!  I love how it maintains the curl of my lashes and the extra length my lashes deserve!

AMW Reviews: FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Film Type-Water Resistant

During my Japan trip early this year, one of the cosmetics brand quite popular is called FairyDrops.  The brand caught my interest because of their colorful and "kawaii" packaging!

Later this year, I heard that FairyDrops is going to be available at the Beauty Bar and I can't help but feel excited as the brand is known for creating mascaras that gives doll-like lashes!  Who wouldn't want that?

    I know I do!

    FairyDrops says ---
    • A do-it-all fiber mascara.  Gives you doll like lashes + treatment.
    • Contains Volume Up Powder, Wax and Fiber and 5 kinds of treatment essence to beautify and repair eyelashes.
    • Hydrolyzed Collagen, Squalene, Sodium Hyaluronate, Jojoba Seed Oil and Panthenol: retains moisture, softens, hydrates and adds volume to lashes.
    • All day curl, smudge proof and yet easily removed with soap and water.
    • Lashes feel soft to touch.  No to brittle feeling lashes!
    AMW says ---
    Pros
    • Super adorable packaging!
    • Nice curved wand with unique 3 teardrop shape making it easy to reach even short lashes.
    • Definitely CLUMP-FREE!  (AMW tested 4 coats)
    • Gives a nice length to my super short lashes.
    • Doesn't weigh down the curl.
    • Lashes remain soft.
    • No smudging.
    • Easy to remove with regular soap and water.
    • The mascara can gives a nice "curl" on your lashes.  (May not work for those with short and super straight lashes pointing downwards.)
    • Gives a natural false lash effect.
    • Has additional treatment to hydrate and adds volume to lashes.
    Cons
    • Price (for those not comfortable spending more than Php1,000 for mascaras)
    • Possible flaking.  (not too much)
    Overall
FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Film Type gives a nice curl, length and volume to my lashes minus clumping.  Lashes remain soft and curled up for the whole day and best of all, it is very easy to remove with warm water.

    Tips
    • If you feel more comfortable wearing waterproof mascara, you can opt to purchase Fairydrops Platinum Mascara in Waterproof Type.
    • For people with super short and stick straight lashes, I personally prefer to curl my lashes using your favorite eyelash curler prior to any mascara application.
    • If you tend to smudge mascara onto your eyelid, use the business card method to prevent transferring mascara to your lids.
    • To make sure all the mascaras are completely remove, you can clean using cotton buds too.
    Will I repurchase?
Yes!  I repurchased the waterproof type version for clients!

To whom do I recommend this to?
Mascara wearers who dislike to take time at night in removing their waterproof mascaras but still want the smudge-proof feature.

Where to purchase and how much?
Available in all Beauty Bar stores for Php1,195.00 (approx $28.45)LIKE FairyDrops Philippines on Facebook for more product updates.

Cute packaging of the FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Film Type

Back portion has everything written in Japanese.
The diagram is easy to understand though even without knowledge on Japanese language.

Cute silver tube with nice patterns.
    Definitely kawaii!

Unique 3-Teardrop shaped wand making it easy to reach short lashes.

Before and After photo of my lashes (Front View)
Since my lashes are almost non-existent to start with, the extra length was seen on the after photo and my eyes looked more define.

    Another view/angle
This photo was taken after applying 4 full coats.  Base on photos you can see that there isn't any clumping at all!  Each lashes were coated thus making each strand looks more define. Can you imagine how great this will look on girls with originally long and full lashes?  *envious*

    Side view
The after photo was taken 6 hours after, there wasn't any smudging, there was a tiny bit of flaking (1-2 flakes) but none that I can't handle.  As seen on after photo, my lashes remain upright so this proved that the mascara didn't weigh my lashes down.

Would you give FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Film Type -Water Resistant a try?
I am definitely happy with the performance of this mascara and I don't mind taking a break from regular waterproof mascaras on a regular basis as to give my lashes the rest it deserves from all the scrubbing and rubbing at the end of the day!
