Like the game, I slice everything quick and fast.  

We may be a family of 3 but I cook for family of 5 - I deliver my dishes to my in-laws and prepare more dishes for my husband to bring to work the next day.

So I can imagine you thinking - how do I survive?

And I have No-Cook days!

Back to the restaurant.  I remembered dining at Super Bowl of China either SM MOA or Robinsons Manila.  It is a perfect place to dine with my family as both sides of the family loves Chinese food.  And Super Bowl Of China delivers in terms of taste and quality.

SALO Lechon Belly

 

Second time to eat Salo’s Lechon Belly and it never fail to impress me with the extra crispiness.

You don’t believe me?  I did not believe it myself.  It was delivered at 11am so imagine this to be cooked hours before.  By lunch time, no need to reheat and we ate it as is, very crunchy, tasty and the meat is tender with the right amount of thin layer of fats.

The meat itself is very flavorful because you can see just how much herbs and spieces they use!  They did not scrimp on that.

An order comes with Achara and Garlic suka.  The combination is just perfect!  

Now let’s talk about dinner time, I just reheat everything in an oven and it came out fresh as newly cooked!  And best of all, this shocked me even more!  The next day, I have a few pieces left and I don’t wan tto hassle of turning on the whole oven for a smal piece.  I simply refried it using a non-stick pan with few oil —- it came out perfect!  Even crunchier!  I just don’t know how they prepare this dish but they are doing it right 1000% !

Since COVID-19 broke, I have been cooking nonstop.  For both my family and my in-laws who live close by.  Cooking for 2 families is stressful - no matter how much you love to cook.  There are days you call the “Cookerist’ BLOCK”  - I invented that…but I am sure anyone in charge of the kitchen can relate.  Especially if you have picky eaters in the house.

Every weekend, we try to do online restaurant delivery for me to “refresh” my state of mind LOL.  Thankfully, there are more options to choose from and I am so happy to include this restaurant on rotation!  YAYOI Philippines - hailed as the no. 1 teishoku restaurant worldwide!  The restaurant is located in Megamall, Mall of Asia, BGC, Salcedo Makati, North EDSA QC, Eastwood QC and UP Town Center QC.  

No wonder the restaurant is still thriving amidst pandemic because they really serve good quality dishes.

I have to add that I love how they pack and have everything labeled clearly!  Even instructions!

When friends share to me good restaurant finds because they knew I need a break from cookingg daily, I felt loved!  

I cook every single day (sometimes twice a day) because I take care not only the food for our household but also our neighbor! (My parents-in-law!)  That said, it gets draining to think about the menu on a daily basis but I thank God on breaks like Sundays so I can easily order out and get inspired by the dishes I eat.

I recently tried Carol’s Chicken and Lechon Belly and it was a lovely surprise to find a gem at Masangkay!  The place where I usually order our weekend dishes.

Paella

This seafood mix Paella isn’t the version of those you eat at Spanish restaurants as this has a twist that goes well with the palate of Filipino Chinese!  On first bite, I had a bit of a “Kiampong” feel with the texture of rice and the right stickiness!  What made me enjoy this so much is how I can east this alone without the need for “ulam”.  You get a good serving of shrimps, clams, squid, fish, eggs, etc…!

I am very very picky with Roasted Chicken.  There are so many roasted chicken available out there that promises the good flavor but always fail in texture and juiciness.

Carol’s Chicken passed my standard + MORE!  The sauce they created that comes with the chicken is a winner in my dicitionary!  I love the sauce so much I did not throw the rest away and used it on my other dishes!  Ang sarap!  You have to try to believe!  And thankfully, even with the breast part, the chicken remain juicy and plump!  I love the extra sauce that comes in a packet so you can easily pour it all over before serving on a plate and keep the chicken moist.

Dear AMW Friends!  

I haven’t shared much about my dad’s work.  He has been working in a Chinese restaurant for his whole work life!  He started as a part-timer at 16 or 17 and he retired before he turned 60.  Yes, in that same restaurant with dishes so close to my heart.

We have memories of picking my dad up around 11pm-11:30pm whenever he closes the restaurant and while waiting, the 4 of us siblings were singing Chinese songs in the car and just stare at nearby places, to be exact, I was looking through LIDO restaurant which was just right across the restaurant were my dad works!   Those were the fun days there’s no gadget and we have only each other to “pass time”.

Anyways, that short story seems unrelated to my post but Lido Cocino Tsina (could be the same owner or maybe there are huge changes on their business side) still gave me that loving memory I had when were still young!  I mean, there were only a few good Chinese restaurants back then including LIDO.

So it is obvious when I am craving for childhood dishes, it is also normal to look back and order food from restaurants I was accustomed to!

And because of COVID-19, the restaurant explored online ordering and delivery!  What a relief since I buy everything online nowadays!

I know most Chinese restaurants do not take Lumpiang Shanghai seriously, they are just rolls of meat that can be made at home but Lido Cocino made theirs differently.  It has a distinct taste that hits home.  Something I cannot replicate in my own kitchen!.

Hi AMW friends who are mommies!  Have you done "Gelai" (The Chinese Method of Post partum healing"?

To those of you who are confused, this is the method where it involves not bathing for a month after giving birth, not doing any strenuous activities, eating food rich in iron, etc... exchanging water with this special tea as water and a WHOLE LOT MORE!

Why would we even do that?  After 9 full months of carrying a "heavy load", why would you torture yourself?  That was the exact words I had in mind but I was surprised I followed almost every single rule existed in the "Ge Lai" rule book (if there's any) because number 1: I don't want o disrespect my mom-in-law and number 2, I do want to look as good as my mom and mom-in-law after giving birth!

All these are done to bring back to "warmth" of the body as they say as they were all pushed out and gone together with child bearing!  Whether you believe it or not, at the back of my head I always say: "If it doesn't hurt me, I'll join them!"

For the person involved, the no bathing for a month is probably the worst but truth be told, the hard part are for the parents or helper who takes care of you!  They do all the stuff for you and prepare nutritious food.  These Gelai dishes to be honest aren't easy to prepare!  

So today, I am here to lift some of the burden for your household if YOU or anyone in your family is doing Gelai.  

I discovered Ahma Shirley's Specialties via Instagram when they messaged me to give their bestselling dishes a try!  With a short chat with the owner, I learned that the recipe was handed down from the handle owner's Mom-in-law to her husband who does the cooking on all these delicious dishes.

That's the promise of my good friend's business called Pizza Pizza PH.  Ang sabi nga nila: "Bakit isa lang?  Eh kung pwede namang dalawa ang _____?"  A choice between Jowa (BF) and Pizza!  I'd go for the latter as I already found my forever in Mr. AMW (naks!)

Straight from their kitchen in San Juan, I got 2 Pizza flavors delivered straight to my doorstep.  Pizza Pizza PH All Meat and Chicken Pesto.  I was leaning on All Meat as I have never been a fan of Pesto dishes!  But after trying out both, it was a surprise for me to lean on Chicken Pesto because it is extremely delicious in so many ways --- you eat chunks of chicken a perfect balance of pesto, a huge slice of tomatoes in each triangle and a whole lot of flavors going on in there minus the oil!  It just felt right taking each bite without the guilt!

Of course, All Meat Pizza didn't fail!  It was the normal All Meat pizza so I didn't really put it on spotlight!  What I wanted to say is it has a good amount of serving - I previously ordered a much more expensive pizza that weekend and that paled to Pizza Pizza in comparison in terms of ingredients and pizza crust!  This is your ultimate Brick Oven Pizza baby!

BlackScoop At Home Delivery

 

I love milk tea shops and coffee shops.  My only complaint?
There's nothing to eat, if there is, the choices are usually limited.

The first time I dined at Black Scoop near my mom's place, I bonded with my siblings over Buffalo Wings, Nachos and Milk tea.  We even ended up sharing a piece of cake in between stories and laughter.

Obviously, I haven't gotten the chance to do all these again when COVID-19 happened.  So it was a wonderful relief to know that my favorite restaurants are doing their best to rise up again by offering food and drinks delivery service.

So funny when Mother's Day weekend came, I already told my husband this ---"Hindi ako luluto ha? Magpapa-deliver ako!"  (I won't cook okay?  I will go for online food delivery service!"

I love to cook, don't get me wrong!  I love it so much I managed to survive more than 2 months of not ordering food online!  But I find myself eating less whenever I cook, call it psychological but I tend to eat less when it was me who does the cooking.

There's a "HOTDISH" in town!

Food delivery services are so important to me because it comes with a "story".

Back when my mom suffered depression (story HERE), I had a full time job back then and my mom can't seem to do everything (even the thing she loved most --- cooking!)

So I ended up ordering from 1 restaurant to another, I tried searching for food delivery services option but there wasn't a lot of those back then!  And what's worst, my mom and dad got bored with restaurant food and they ended up not wanting to eat anymore!

The first time I tried Big Guys Pizza was from a leftover from my Husband's Holiday Party.  I was told so many times no pizza will taste good if they are reheated --- true enough, I love Big Guys Pizza for the size and the "usual" taste but it's not something I would really crave for.

Then it was another "Office Food Party" and I've finally decided to visit Mr. AMW with Kyle and join them for a pizza party!  I knew I had to try the new and improved Big Guys Pizza FRESH!

It was worth the trip!

According to Big Guys Pizza, they made their pizzas better than ever.  New Taste, New Look and Same Big Flavor and Affordable Price.

I am finally agreeing and nodding my head as I bite a piece.  I am tasting the difference with the cheese they used --- definitely better!  I also love how even the pizza isn't the "crunchy" one that I usually enjoy, the soft dough made a whole difference!  All the vegetables tastes really fresh!

Healthy Food Delivery Review: Fit Food Manila

If you are active on Instagram, you've probably seen celebrities or your favorite Bloggers going for Healthy Meals! 

I want to try them, badly!  Not because I am really into diet, but for the fact that I know I should eat well and get in shape!  It has been 2 years since giving birth so I want to stay active, look healthy and feel good with my body!  

Truth be told, there are days I am not treating myself well, I tend to skip breakfast and just have a cup of coffee, or skip meals because I'm too busy with work!  Such a huge no-no right?  Especially if you're a mom with a super hyper-active toddler.
