Love Month Look

Hi AMW Friends!

I’ve said it so many times, February is my favorite month for so many reason!

There’s Valentine’s Day, Lunar New Year (mostly celebrated in this month), My Birth Month, Ash Wednesday usually falls on this month and cooler weather of course.  If not because of COVID-19, we are probably going to Tagaytay every weekend for that blast of cool and fresh air!  How I wish the pandemic will be all behind us soon!

So back to my small world here at home, I have been staying in my office / “Beauty Room” more often.  Playing with new and old makeup can lighten up my mood anytime of the day.

I recently got all these goodies from Sephora , I got super excited and tried the Huda Beauty Naughty Nude Palette immediately together with the Nudestix x Pony collection.

Here’s the final look!  Very pink right?

Sakura Inspired Makeup look with Kate Tokyo Red Nude Rouge

Hi everyone!
I am on fire when it comes to makeup looks!

I guess it's the pandemic that made me want to keep myself busy, to do the things I love and want to do so I will keep my thoughts away from the stress of the pandemic.

I know, some may say: "What? Who would wear makeup?"
ME!

Sakura Inspired Makeup look with Kate Tokyo Red Nude Rouge

I don't go out, I went out totally 2 times ever since March 2020 but hey, I admit, I wear makeup and fix my hair at home!  You can obviously see that on my IG Stories and posts.  It makes me sane...it makes me happy.  I'm not sure if you feel the same.

Sakura Inspired Makeup look with Kate Tokyo Red Nude Rouge

Sometimes, I get inspired to create a specific look based from a new makeup item.  Kate Tokyo recently launched their newest lipstick line called Red Nude Rouge and I am loving it!  I usually get inspired to wear a specific lip color based from the eye makeup but it seems like I am more inspired to create this eye makeup look after trying out these exciting red lip colors!

Club Clio Simply Pink Look

How I missed these Photo-torials!
If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen a couple of my makeup looks tutorial on #AMWIGtv , shameless plug ahead, if you are into visuals follow me there!  If you love the old school photo-torial...I am still here!

I recently created Club Clio Simply Pink Look, as simple as that, I called the look that way because I used a Club Clio Simply Pink eyeshadow palette!

How do you like it?
a photo of Nikki Tiu wearing Club Clio Simply Pink Look

A friendly note from me, if you are into wild and highly pigmented shadow looks, this palette aren't for you!  This is best for those who are into Korean/Japanese makeup looks - subtle, young-looking and just carefree! Not much blending or thinking to worry about, you just apply the shadows you think would look good on you and go with the flow!  As free as that!

a photo of Nikki Tiu wearing Club Clio Simply Pink Look

Club Clio Simply Pink Palette consists of..well..err...various shades of "subtle" pink, I have to put subtle out there because if you are aiming for HOT PINK ala Madonna, you won't find it here ! You get subtle pink in dfferent finishes though!

K-Drama Look with BLK K-Beauty Collection

Korean makeup, I know all the drills, I know what to do as I've studied them long enough whenever I watch K-Drama.  But one thing that probably stop me is the fact that I have a whole lot of Western Makeup!  Yes, I do have a couple of pinks but some look either too bright or too "for Photography purpose" only.

When BLK Cosmetics launched their K-Beauty Collection, I got excited to create my own version of Anne Curtis look because I am in love with her photos for this particular collection!

Finally, a look I can easily do in less than 5 minutes and a look I can totally wear!

a photo of BLK Cosmetics K-Beauty KDrama Look by Nikki Tiu of askmewhats.com

It started with a simple pink eyeshadow using BLK Intense Color Liquid Eyeshadow in shade Daisy (php299.00).  I find this to be scary pink to even try to put on my lids but after putting a dot and blending it with the use of my pinkie finger, I knew this is a keeper!

Check out the soft wash of Pink color.  A dot is enough and I like to use my smallest finger so I can control application pretty well!  Best of all, this liquid eyeshadow lasts the whole day without creasing!  Be mindful though that if you added your usual liquid liner, the effect won't be as soft and it will look Western makeup look!

My Happy Skin Glam Squad Juan Sarte Look

Last August, Happy Skin launched their newest makeup line called Happy Skin Glam Squad, the brand's latest collaboration developed together with Filipino makeup masters including --- Juan Sarte, Mickey See, Denise Go-Ochoa and Jigs Mayuga.  I've decided to go for Juan Sarte's eyeshadow and liquid matte lipstick because I felt this collection would go well with my skin tone!

True enough, it was love at first application....

How To: Wear Pastel Makeup (and not look like a trying-hard-teenager)

If you are reading this post, the title probably caught your attention! :P
Before you go pointing fingers at me saying I'm trying so hard to look young, well, I'm not! :)  I just have a pastel colored eye shadows that I haven't touched and it's high time I use it and share to my readers who may be a bit beyond 30s (like me...ahem!  Okay, I'm waay beyond 30) and would like to know how to use pastel colored eye shadow without looking like a trying-hard full-blown adult woman trying hard to look like a teenager!

I hope not me! :P

First off...when you plan to wear pastel-colored eye shadow, it is very important to keep the rest of your face clean yet very simple!  Thus, I highly recommend to skip that full coverage foundation and let your skin breathe!  I opted for just a moisturizer, spot conceal key areas like my under eye circles, some redness around my nose and cheeks and set with a powder.

AMW Version: Daytime makeup for the PowerPuff Girl

The title probably made you go "EH?" but I have a reason for such title!

A reader once emailed me and asked me for help on makeup for puffy eyes!  Okay, am I being asked because I have puffy eyes?  *raises one eyebrow*

Fine!  It's true! I do have puffy eyes on random days and I do have clients with puffy eyes too!  (Ttrying to include everyone here, I'm not alone on this okay?) *laughs*

*Grumpy Mode over*

I finally had the chance to create AMW way!  Please bear in mind there are a lot more ways to do this!  At the end of the day, practice makes perfect!  Try as many color combinations and techniques

AMW Diagram

I used the Clinique Lid Smoothie Anti-oxidant 8-hour eye colour in Pinko Biloba all  over the lids.

Step 1:
Apply a shimmery pinkish eyeshadow all over lids.  I am using Pink Chiffon Shimmer Wash eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown's Pretty Palette.

I usually steer away from shimmery shades as it can enhance eye puffiness, try to be careful by applying only a tiny amount to create a subtle shimmer underneath.

Step 2:
Taking out my Human Nature Mineral Eyeshadow Enchanted Evening palette, I applied the silvery-gray eyeshadow on the crease area going a bit beyond.  Add the shadow as needed and blend the harsh edges with a fluffy blending brush.  I am using a Vegan Blending Brush from Charm.

Step 3:
With a pencil brush, I grabbed a good amount of matte black eyeshadow from Sleek applying carefully only on the crease area.

With the same fluffy blending brush on Step2, blend to blur out edges blending the silver gray eyeshadow and the matte black eyeshadow.

Step 4:
Time for eye lining, I whipped out my ELF Cream Eyeliner in Black and lined my eyes carefully.

Step 5:
Since everything is turning out a bit too dark for a daytime look, I used a nice Teal Colored Fluidliner pencil from Inuovi.  (thanks a dear angel for gifting me this, I love this so much!)

Curl your lashes and apply a good amount of mascara.

My Finish Look
Dark dark colored eyeshadow on the crease area decreases the look of puffiness  The bright colored liner is an added plus to focus on the bright liner instead of the puffy eyes!

What's on the rest of my face?

For the Face:

For the Cheeks
Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai
in Pleasure Rose

For the Lips:
Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in Pink Flush
Revlon Colorburst in Pink Ice

The makeup focuses on the eyes and left
with an ice-y pink cheeks and lips

Okay, you may expect something more like drawing myself into a Powerpuff girl character!  *laughs*
Of course not!  Halloween is over :)
Hope you enjoyed this simple AMW Version!

Have a great day!

AMW Version: "Sweets for My Sweet" Look

 "Sweets for my sweet,
Sugar for my honey....
I'll never ever let you go..."

*sigh* I seriously have this romantic bone in me that I even "demanded" my husband to stay as sweet as he is now no matter how old and wrinkly we get!  "Demand" is such a bad term but he did tell me I don't need to, he'll stay sweet forever.  (All together now... *AAAaaaaaawwwwww*!)

The reason why I am talking about "sweetness" is because of a Graduating Reader who is sweet enough to message me telling me how she finds me to be a sweet person!  *evil laugh* Bwahahahaha Wait till you meet me in person!  :P  Anyways, she'll be graduating soon and she wants to create a "sweet" look on her Graduation Day!

How could I say no to such sweet request?

The call time for Graduation Day is usually early, I don't want to do heavy make-up as I don't want some make-up meltdown while you wait outside the "hall".  I remember those days when we have to stay outside and line up until the ceremony starts!  Can you imagine how hot and humid it could get?
Here's my version of a Sweets For My Sweet Look that can be done on Graduation Day!

AMW Diagram

Step 1:
Prior to eyeshadow application, prime the lid with your favorite eye primer.  In this tutorial, I prefer to use less eyeshadow for lesser mishaps!  Applied a thin layer of Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Flatter me.  An alternative can be NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil or just plain colorless eye primer.

Pat on a similar shade as "Flatter Me".  In this tutorial, I used The Body Shop's Winter Trend 2010 01 Eye Palette Shade in Twilight.  Eyeshadow shade is Lilac Mist.

Step 2:
Using a pencil brush, gently apply all over the crease area a matte black eyeshadow.  Blend with an eyeshadow blending brush with a wiper motion.  Add more and keep on blending until you get a desired result.  Using the same pencil brush, apply a bit of the matte eyeshadow on the lower lash line instead of using an eyeliner.

Do not worry about fall outs, you can gently brush it out with a "fan brush" or "huge powder brush".

Step 3:
To give a more "romantic pink" effect, apply Pret-a-Pink eyeshadow shade from TBS A La Mode Eyeshadow Quad  to lessen the harsh lines.

Step 4:
With the same TBS A La Mode Eyeshadow Quad, apply futuristic silver eyeshadow on the inner thirds of the lower lash line to give that nice "popped out effect" .

Step 5:
I tight-lined with Revlon ColorStay eyeliner pencil in Dark Brown.  Apply a bit on the waterline.

Fill in brows with your favorite eyebrow pencil.  Curl lashes and apply 2 coats of your favorite mascara!  In this tutorial I have used Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, L'Oreal Curl Impact Collagene in Black and Paul & Joe Eyebrow Pencil no. 2.

Your eyes will look like this,
or even better! :)

What's on the rest of my face?

For the Face:
Since I am on Pond's Flawless White Unbeaten Challenge, I did not use any Powder Foundation (just powder) in this post just to stick to the rule Sophie has given me!  I dusted a bit of Revlon PhotoReady Powder in 010 Fair.

For the Cheeks:
Colour Collection Duo Blush
in Desert Rose

For the Lips:
Colour Collection Colour Intense Lipstick
in Tea Rose

Don't judge me but I've used a huge pink flower headband from Shannaholic because I was supposed to look like a graduating student = YOUNG! :P

Hope this helps graduating or even non-graduating students out there who wants to create such look!

AMW Version: Because I am Ready for Valentines + Avon's Tokyo Allure

Happy Hearts' Day!
No matter what your status is at present, there's always reason to celebrate Valentine's Day!  God gave us the capability to love and let's show our dearest family, friends how much we love them.  A simple "Thank You" and "I love you for who you are" is worth more than flowers and chocolates!

Speaking of flowers and chocolates my version for this year's Valentine's Day has to do with the colors of chocolates and flowers.  Pinks and Browns!  My favorite eyeshadow color combination!

(Note from AMW: You can click on the Brand name to read past reviews)

Here's the AMW Version for V-Day!

AMW Diagram

Fill your brows and prep your lids by using an eye primer of your choice to make the eyeshadow last longer and prevent creasing.

For this look, I used Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer and filled my brows with Tears Line & Mode Autobrow in BR02.

Step 1:
Using a flat shader brush, I am  using Leow Cornell 3/8 Maxine's Mop which is very similar and a great dupe for MAC239, I pat on Joppa's Mineral eyeshadow in Anastacia.

Step 2:
I am liking the Bobbi Brown Pretty Palette, so I'm using it again.  With a crease brush (in this tutorial, it's the MAC217 brush), I am applying it on my lid area going a bit beyond.  Adding the Chocolate Caviar Eye Shadow and blending it as I go on.

Step 3:
Using Pink Chiffon from the same palette, I used the same MAC217 brush to blur out harsh lines by blending the Joppa Anastacia Eyeshadow and Bobbi Brown Chocolate Caviar Eye Shadow.

Step 4 and 5:
I line my upper lash line with E.l.f. Cream Eyeliner in Black with my Ecotools Eyeliner Brush.  For the lower lashline and waterline, I am using Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes 1L.  I also tightlines using the same MUFE Aqua yes.

Instead of curling my lashes and using multiple coats of mascara!  I've decided to use the ES A10 Lashes (from KKCenterHK) I got recently as I'm testing their comfort in terms of usage!  It does not fail!  Though the lashes are quite thick and a bit long, it's very lightweight!

I used Sassi Eyelash Glue (Dark) gifted to me by an anonymous reader 2 Christmases ago :)  Thanks dear!

I actually wore this look for a nice dinner party!

Now let me share to you what's on the rest of my face...

For the Face:

I highlighted my undereye aera with The Body Shop's Lightening Touch 04 and my cheekbone area with Clinique up-lighting liquid illuminator.

using Thevi Blush brush

For the Lips:

Pull my hair up and wear that huge smile and you're ready to melt someone's heart *winks*
